Play off race

We have won 4 out of our last 15, we aren't suddenly going to win 4 in a row!

4 points at best from them games.

I agree - hence why I also put this bit which was deleted from your quote...

However, we have a team capable of getting bummed 3-0 by a horribly out of form Swansea. This is the difference, I can see us getting maybe 6 points, if we're being generous.

Anyway, the next 4 games are vital;

Derby (a) - 24th
Stoke (a) - 19th
Cardiff (h) - 20th
Portsmouth (a) - 17th

However, we have a team capable of getting bummed 3-0 by a horribly out of form Swansea. This is the difference, I can see us getting maybe 6 points, if we're being generous.

Agree. One win, 2 draws and a defeat the most likely outcome

I'll go for 9+ points from our next 3 games. I think we will find our way to 3 wins and a draw.

I'd be well impressed with Ismael if we got more than 9 points from our next 3 games...😉

Not expecting anything from those away games.
Bookies make bottom of the table Derby favourites against us - shows where we are really.

Have to beat Cardiff at home and pick up at least one more win from the other 3

I don't think we'll make the playoffs neither but that doesn't mean we won't. I have some friends who support Middlesbrough and they say pretty much what we do about being inconsistent. I also spoke to some Norwich fans walking back on Saturday and they said similar.

I really think the next four matches will shape our season in respect of making the top six. These four games are against struggling teams so on paper winnable but the Championship in general just doesn't work like that.

Difference is those clubs are trying to get promoted, ours isn't.

Side note, i'm also absolutely sick of Coventry with their annual mid-season playoff charge, after being shite for the first half of the season.

Anyway, the next 4 games are vital;

Derby (a) - 24th
Stoke (a) - 19th
Cardiff (h) - 20th
Portsmouth (a) - 17th

You look at that, and think that a team aiming for playoffs should be getting 12 points from those games... I think Sunderland and Coventry would.

However, we have a team capable of getting bummed 3-0 by a horribly out of form Swansea. This is the difference, I can see us getting maybe 6 points, if we're being generous.

Hopefully the return of Tronstad and Ohashi, plus the addition of our new Gaffer, can make up the difference.

In an ideal world, we win all 4 of those... this would put us on 64 points, needing only 6 points from our remaining 7 matches (0.86 PPG) to hit 70 points. Playoffs would be very much on the cards.

Come on lads, please!

I’d go as far as saying if we win all 4 then we will be 99% in. We’d have a huge gap from 7th if we went on a 4 game win streak now.

Theres slim to no chance we win all 4 though.
Based on our price of 15/8 to beat Derby, then it’s about 50/1 we pick-up maximum points from those 4 games.

I'm certain the Rovers players would love to get promoted and reap the riches it would bring to them. I haven't yet met a Rovers fan who doesn't want promotion neither.

The abhorrent ones and their lackeys can't influence results between now and the end of the season.

Just to add though I don't believe we will make the playoffs.

Of the teams above us, current home form reads:

Coventry: 12 points from 15
WBA: 10 points from 15
Bristol City: 12 points from 15
Rovers: 10 points from 15

Away form reads:

Coventry: 12 points from 15
WBA: 3 points from 15
Bristol City: 4 points from 15
Rovers: 3 points from 15

Not difficult to see how Coventry have surged up the table. They're a force both home and away at the moment.

WBA, BC and Rovers are all struggling away from home recently, so it seems like this will be where the difference lies. Obviously if home form also drops off for any of the three teams then it's probably game over insofar as playoff aspirations are concerned.

Of the teams directly below us, Watford's home form is poor at the moment, Boro's is average and Norwich is the same as us and WBA. Away from home Watford are also average, Boro are poor and Norwich are also poor.

So, there's no immediate indication of a surge from any of the teams below us, although that could of course change quickly.

I read a comment by a Barnsley fan the other day saying their football under VI was ‘mad’, as in a bit chaotic.

If he can get some kind of reaction over the next 10 games or so we are more than capable of getting in the play-offs.

As for Cov, they are having a great run of form but as we all know bad runs tend to follow good runs in the Championship. Let’s hope they’ve peaked too early.

Still all to play for.

I'll be at Derby and Portsmouth but don't feel great about either.

We don't beat sides who have just been promoted away from home, in fact we don't even draw against them. So those two games can be written off straight away.

10 in a row lost, with our last point against one coming on the 1st May 2021.

Bristol City picking up an away win last night.

Sadly, anybody who thinks we can outperform 3 of Coventry, West Brom, Bristol City and Boro hasn't watched Rovers perform February onwards for the last 10 years.

We need to be picking up 3 points in these away games to relegation fodder - we just never ever do.

How's about this going into Derby away - We have LOST all 10 of our last matches away to promoted L1 sides (2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024/25 so far). Outside of Ipswich we've only scored 4 goals in those games!

2024 Oxford (A) - Lost 1-0

2023 Plymouth (A) - Lost 3-0

2023 Ipswich (A) - Lost 4-3

2023 Sheffield Wed (A) - Lost 3-1

2022 Wigan (A) - Lost 1-0

2022 Rotherham (A) - Lost 4-0 - christ this was a low point

2022 Sunderland (A) - Lost 2-1

2021 Hull (A) - Lost 2-0

2021 Peterborough (A) - Lost 2-1

2021 Blackpool (A) - Lost 2-1

2020 Coventry (A) - Won 4-0 (!) October 2020

2020 Wycombe (A) - Lost 1-0

2020 Rotherham (A) - Drew 1-1

8 points from the next 4 games

Love the optimism (!!)

We are slowly declining and others are slowly improving in the business end of the season.

Looked like it would be a 0-0 then a 0-1 so we were very fortunate to get a point on Saturday but not good enough for top 6 when others are picking up points (IE wba against Leeds)

I'm hopeful but realistic.

We will probably end up somewhere between 7-9th

That's stark.

What I would say is there is a difference this time, we're going into the final furlong under a new coach. You'd hope him and Whitehead would be on top of any drop in intensity.

We're also looking in a good place injury wise, Baath returning would also be a major boost.
