Play offs - hypothetical scenario

Them winning the championship at Ewood certainly wasn’t nice for Rovers but it didn’t have too much impact on us, either team beating the other in the playoffs celebrating whilst at the same time dumping their rivals out would be a far bigger win for either team there’s no doubt about that.

Not going to happen mind

I’m really not. The amount of games in that time wasn’t that many anyway. We have been unbeaten for the same amount of games in a much shorter timeframe. At a time where the league positions has been much more equal than any time in that 34 years. And we have never been owned and subsidised by billionaires.

We have been dominant in that time from self generated wealth and hard work.

I’m actually in a minority in that I don’t hate Blackburn. I love the rivalry. And on the week of the games love the intensity of it. And obviously hope we win and remain dominant. But I’d love for us to play each other at the highest level consistently- the rivalry and the top flight deserves it.

football is cyclical. And our period of dominance will likely shift. But for now I’m enjoying it while it lasts. One more game and our run will overtake the 34 year run. Most wins overall despite years in the doldrums. Most wins in a row. Multiple wins in a row at ewood. And won the league there.

34 years doesn’t come close to that.

And all it took was some Indian cunts buying the team and intentionally sabotaging Rovers.

The "we won the league at Ewood" is so small-time it completely sums them up as a club and a fanbase.

They technically clinched the 2nd division title at Ewood Park with a very good goal, which was their only shot on target in that match. If you add in the context that they had failed to win the title before then because they had mucked up their previous two fixtures against fodder, it's even less impressive. Let them crow about it, division two title, small-time.

Talking about "avenging" that result, who cares? It doesn't even come close to the April Fools Day Massacre, the 5-0 could easily have been 7 or 8.

Imagine if we'd had social media sites back then, with all the trolling and goading you see online these days, they would have unplugged the internet in B*rnley for a month.

I also find it bizarre that their fans regularly post on our forums. I don't think they should be banned, everyone free to do as they like. But I've never been on any of their social media sites, forums, websites in my life and never would, I can't understand why you would.

A one off win at home, is bigger than a title win come off it. Now you are fishing?

the 3-0 barnes game was even more dominant with two more equally matched sides. Winners went top.

you can’t pretend that the title winning game wasn’t the biggest of them all. Imagine the shoe was on the other foot?

the song isn’t purely about winning the league. It’s also about coming back from the dead where rovers mocked us ‘staying down forever!’  We didn’t. We came back. Through hard work and with bugger all money. The only money we’ve had was generated through years of sensible management and transfers. ( and thats all gone now after we were bought out by worse owners than yours! Luckily they’ve not yet come under pressure. But a bad season or two and we could be up sh*t creek!)

That statement negates any arguments you can put forward related to the Rovers / Burnley rivalry.  You obviously have no grasp on reality.

Generations of inbreeding does tend to have detrimental effects on the mind.

It's really funny just how small time they are.

"We won the league at your place"

No you fucking didn't you clampit, WE won the league. Something you will never see.

Just for reference, this is what it looks like when you win the league

The amount of games in that time is completely irrelevant. Lancashire was blue and white. Those cuts run deep.

And that’s a good thing for Burnley. If the amount of games had been more it would have been terribly embarrassing for you.

Do you know your own history? There was a reason the amount of games in 34 years wasn’t that many. We were dominant for much of that time but Burnley were saved from being terrorised by the likes of Alan Shearer and Andy Cole because they were making the gulf even bigger all on their own.

34 years and the shadow cast during that time means yourself and the likes of you still obsess over Rovers more so than any success of your own. You’ve only got to look at Rovers Facebook page to see how many Burnley fans follow Rovers as much as their own team. I’ve never even visited Burnley’s FB page nor would I ever join their web forum.

As you're talking about the boot being on the other foot, I'm sure if Bank of Dave had bankrolled similar levels of investment in the '90s and Burnley gave the established order a bloody nose and helped you win a title, you'd have turned it down on moral grounds, wouldn't you?

Have a day off.

Of course we would. You’ve missed my point. That being we fought back to not only become level but superior. After you going the other way. Through your own mismanagement.

Plenty say ‘things you’ll never see’. Plenty of us HAVE seen us win the top division though. 😂

Did some research to point out that it won't be as many as most clubs fanbases but I was proven wrong so maybe you're right

Your success is as much down to our failures as your own success, tbf.

This argument always puzzles me - but it gets posted a lot, and seems to be the statement that most pleases the new generation of ultra-smug Claret.

Burnley fans make the argument that Rovers are in a false or artificial position as in their words, a "sugar daddy" elevated us above "our station". As much as you can say we were elevated artificially, you could also say we were taken apart artificially. Ideally, we should have consolidated our position and remained in the top division, with Burnley coming up to meet us through all their hard toil and superb management, and both clubs having a right old tussle in the Prem. Instead, you played an absolutely rudderless and decimated side devoid of any quality and rightly got the upper hand - we've hardly been a worthy opponent until this season, barely. The response that more or less always follows from Burnley fans to that is "you reap what you sow" when it comes to the Walker > Venky transition. But should a business that's been invested in by a local, self-made man who loved the town and it's football club deserve to be punished? Everyone says Walker ushered in the era of the billionaire owners, that's total rubbish, it would have happened anyway in the major cities. Kieran McGuire often says on his Football Finance podcast that he dislikes certain aspects of FFP and it's goal of trying to level the playing field, in his words "what is wrong with a local businessman wanting to spend money on his football club?" Worth a listen.

Most Rovers fans would accept kicking around the Champ / League One if under sensible ownership with the ability to dream, we don't demand billions being spent, we have no right to be in the Premier League, we just want to see an honest, transparent hierarchy at the club. We do get rightly upset at players like Diaz, Rothwell and Lenihan being allowed to leave for frees, with no attempt at making any profit to spend on the squad. We do accept we are a selling club, and always have been, John Williams made that point already.

I see a lot of posts saying that Rovers fans expect rich owners to keep bankrolling the club and elevate us back into an "artificial" position and that we are "deluded". We just expect a standard that's been set for a whole generation of supporters, as will most Burnley fans in 5-10 years if the club were to drop into the doldrums. When we were relegated in '99, we accepted our fate as we had made a series of poor decisions, but the fanbase trusted the board to do things right, and there was a feeling that the club was a coherent whole, I remember an attitude of realism and acceptance.

There's also this assumption that we just bought the league and walked it, just like yourselves we still had to work hard - see players like Atkins, who personified the work ethic of that side. We nearly didn't do it, we fell apart after '95, went down, got back up and won the League Cup and played in Europe under sensible stewardship. It might be hard to believe but for some Rovers fans, it wasn't all about the 90s, we've had times under Souness and Hughes etc that for a certain generation are up there with some of the best of times - we managed to compete with the big 6, with a much lower budget in comparison.

The Walker years have obviously cut a deep wound that I'm only beginning to appreciate now we are very much second best. I often have a good natured chat with a Claret friend of mine during the school run, a sensible one at that too, he has a position behind the scenes apparently. After the last game at Ewood I made the point that I didn't think the teams looked that far apart, considering ours is/was valued at circa £40m and the Burnley team around £150m. He immediately spat out the words "but but jackckkwalker" and start foaming at the mouth with no prompting.

Football does go in cycles, you're correct, and I know a few Burnley fans who find the antics of the players and certain sections of the fanbase a bit hard to watch, as they know it can equally come back to haunt them, pride always comes before a fall etc. Just as the mockery from our fans towards Clarets in the 90s has probably helped in creating a certain attitude amongst supporters, there'll be a whole generation of very angry Rovers fans out for revenge. Football has a habit of levelling things up and creating stories...

Way I see it, is both Blackburn and Burnley are incredibly fortunate to be founding members and to have this huge rivalry that is part of the fabric of English football. Our derby days are the stuff of dreams and everyone's world cup final. You can't sleep the night before, you dream of winning it. That pair of regular season games that may not (depending on league positions) affect a great deal of the season ahead (or behind)

We turn out in our thousands fill the grounds...

Imagine that we never got to see that again or its a once in a blue moon match.

Honestly, if Burnley were to drop down the leagues I'd be gutted just because we won't have those derby's again. Fans ought to band together in the name of football to turf out the shite that is ruining our heritage, the working man's day out.

The greatest, fiercest and most historical derby in English football.
