Maybe cheap is the wrong word - they don’t want to reinvest financially (in terms of percentage of what they brought in with player sales) in the playing squad to get promotion. They want to do that side on the cheap - hoping loans, frees and lower priced players will do the job. My main point is, I believe that if you offered Venky’s, Waggott and Suhail promotion at the end of this season, I think they would snap your hand off. I can’t see any logical reason for them to not want promotion.

Totally agree. I constantly read on here they don't want promotion. But it doesn't make sense to me.

I think we know that like those before him, he wont.

I think as a supporter, the saying “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me”, is apt, although it would need changing to “Fool me three times, I believe in fairies”.

It was absolutely crystal clear from Ismael’s interview that he has been given assurances about the Summer and beyond.

Maybe we will see a minor miracle and those assurances will be kept, or……….

Worrying thing for that first performance is the discipline - we should've been down to 10, then 9.

Needs to nip that in the bud ASAP.

Also, I have no desire to see the likes of Dolan starting for the rest of the season, id bundle Cantwell in with that as well.

Do we?

We made a number of quality signings during the summer that have help and ensure we fighting at the top end and a genuine chance of getting a playoff place,

All depends what you called backing but has we have since we not millions and millions but we are fighting for playoffs places which very few people thought we would. Its all about the quality of the players

Managers dont get backed here, and then leave.

Ismael's job is simple - to keep us in the playoff place that he inherited when he took over

After today, he has taken us from 5th to 7th in his first game.

Needs a win desperately at Derby next week. As it stands, he's failing

So Rovers didn't make any signings during the last 2 transfer windows then? I missed have their impact made by signings we made by Gueye, Ohashi, Weimann, Batth, Ribeiro, Kargbo, etc.

The problem we didn't reinvest enough of the sale money we received, different argument

@chaddyrovers do you think that Eustace WAS backed then?

Wasnt the narrative when he left, so just checking if thats changed.

Rovers made signings during the 2 windows but Eustace didn't get some of his players targets for whatever reasons he wanted to sign during windows but he is the head coach at the end of the day.

So no he wanted backed for his own players signings but Rovers have made several very good signings over the 2 windows which has helped us into the top 6 and challenge for playoffs.

The head coach need to trust the recruitment department and lets them do the scouting and researching signings before they picked the first choice of a shortlist of 3-5 shortlist, cos Head coaches don't have time to do their own scouting of potential signings, they focus is training the team and winning on a match day

Not being backed doesnt mean literally not signing any players. It means at least in my back not being given significant enough resources and of course not having final say also doesnt help.

Eustace wasnt backed. Tomasson wasnt backed. And towards the end Mowbray wasnt backed. All displayed frustration in the media and no reason to suggest it wont happen again.

Way over the top - we don't need a win  "desperately" - there will still be a significant proportion of the season to go. For some reason, only known to yourself, you are trying to create a sense of crisis and panic around the club.

6/10, C+, however you rank it the verdict has to be "Must do better".

The most worrying thing was the indiscipline. It's all well and good putting in a few meaty challenges but not when it's likely to leave us a man or so down.

Hyam in particular should be fined a couple of week's wages by the Club even if he escapes censure from the footballing authorities. There was no need or mitigating reason for it whatsoever, and it should have left us reduced to 10 at that stage.

The players should take a lot of responsibility for that, Ismail has only been in the job four days. One of those he was barely through the door and one of those was a match day.

Waggott and Shaikh are the main ones to blame for the poor run with their shit transfer windows and inability to make a quick decision either on transfers or managers when we're in the play off spots.

If we don't win against Derby VI won't be top of my hit list.

obsessing again, We are the playoff hut and been around top 6 despite not reinvesting much money, Yes we would have like more money and personally made different signings instead of some of the players we did sign.

The signings made during this season have helped us get into this playoff hunt and we have 11 games left to achieve a playoff place.

Eustace decided to move on and I wish him well(just not on Saturday 8th March), we must moved on and focus on the remaining part of the season and beyond under our new head coach Ismael

I dont think its just about the quality of the players either. I think we all agreed that Eustace was making the team bigger than the sum of its parts. It doesnt mean that he was backed, just like managers before, in fact the lack of backing literally led to him quitting. No reason to think that Ismael will be backed when so many others havent.

Unless you think that minimal reinvestment and not always getting the final say to be considered being backed, in which case, yes I am sure some players will be signed under him.

We will discover over the next 11 games how much of being in and around the top 6 was down to Eustace and his staff.

I would say the signings made in the Summer Window are the ones who have got us into  the play off hunt.

I suspect that Park was key in bringing most of those players in.

Of the January signings, Ribeiro looks steady enough and Kargbo has potential, but needs to produce more end product.

The other late in the window signings are looking a bit desperate just now.

We all know the kind of model we are supposed to be adopting, but how anyone can have faith that this current incarnation will end any differently to the others under Venkys ownership is beyond me.

It’s akin to still believing in Father Christmas.

As I said on the match thread, signing players who arent match fit seems to be this season's "forgetting to press send".

Achieves the same result, albeit more expensive. Think we've done all the administrative excuses to death so cant use them again though.

After you've already woken up the last few years and caught your dad red handed in the act of sheepishly delivering your presents.

And (in  Rovers case) then finding he didnt get anything you actually asked for.

Or stealing your presents to give to his other family, abroad.

Of course its all about the quality of the player not the priced we paid.

Who says he didn't have final say on the shortlist present to him? or why didn't he trusted the recruitment team who have scouted players and done their research on them?

minimal investment? Yes we haven't reinvested enough of the money we have received, but we have a good team that is challenging for playoff place.

Have you read @unleaded's comments about Eustace and him slowly down signings during the January window and not some of the summer signings either? any comments?
