Just to take him at face value (I know, I know), the positions that we want to sign are...

Centre back - presumably with Hyam (a high earner due a contract renewal) leaving

Box to box midfielder - presumably with either Travis or Tronstad (high earners due a contract renewal) leaving

Right back - presumably with BrittainΒ (due a contract renewal and wage increase) leaving

Right winger - presumably with Dolan (due a contract renewal and wage increase) leaving

Striker - presumably whilst trying to shift Cantwell (a high earner) if at all possible

Β

It does seem to me to be a huge coincidence that all of the positions that they want to buy players in, just so happen to also be the positions where our current top earners (or those due a pay increase) operate.

I am sure that the narrative will be that they didn't fit how Ismael wanted to play.Β  In some cases, this may even be true.Β  I cannot see Cantwell working in the high pressing, high intensity team that we are told we will become.Β  But why do I get the feeling that all of these signings will be on significantly less money than those who they replace?

I hope Rudy and the team can find 5 players for a total outlay of a bag of haribo and a fizzy pop. Also given we have 12-13 leaving its not even half of what we need.Β

Total BS to try and flog some season tickets.

Absolutely nailed it.Β

Also, the fucking goalkeeper has Ryvita for hands but it's not deemed a priority position?

Yesterdays interviews/propaganda indicated that any other gaps in the squad will be filled with kids from the academy.

I am particularly referencing the part where he said about getting back to 2000+ minutes on the pitch for academy graduates

Presumably, Pears wages would be fairly low in comparison to a competent No.1 Keeper in this league, so yeah, they'll be delighted with another 2 years of him. Wouldn't be surprised if they extend his deal in the summer.

In his interview with Elliott Jackson, Gestede mentioned about getting some transfer business done early in the summer.Β

We need a new number 1 keeper isΒ  the number 1 priority for myself.Β

We need a good solid number 1Β

31 year old. Will be cheap. Learning on the job. Biggest club he will have worked at. Exactly how this lot like it.

Note the Barnet link too. A similar appointment a couple of years ago saw somebody come in as 'head of emerging talent' or some bullshit like that.

He also had a previous role at Barnet.

He is coming in as one of the main scouts.

Easy to say, I bet it doesn't happen.

Gestede however, hasn't mentioned the goalkeeping position as being a target for any summer business.

Agree wholeheartedly Chaddy.Β

I haven't heard or watched the video - but does he mention a goalkeeper as a priority?Β

No he doesn't what is a disappointment cos I think it should be number 1 priority.Β Β

We need around 10 new signings this summer.Β

The players due wage increases/clauses/ are our most saleable assets which we look set to lose for a fraction of their value (or feee) if they do not renew their contracts. Absolutely crazy business if true.Β

Why do we need a RB and a RW if we're playing 3-4-3 / 3-5-2 (or whatever variant of 3 at the back the manager likes)?

We need a CB and two athletic WBs if we're switching systems. A RW is pointless now.Β

I've not seen it confirmed (or suggested) anywhere that we will be playing 3 at the back.Β Β

But if I missed it, a 3-4-3 (as opposed to a 3-4-2-1) employs both wing backs and wide forwards/wingers.Β  Technically, Gestede didn't say "right back", Those were my words, he said cover/competition for Brittain.Β  So he could have meant wing back I suppose

The exact quote from Gestede was "On the right, we need cover for Callum Brittain. We have Leo Duru but we need some business in this area.Β "Β  I personally though will be amazed if we sign cover for Britain rather than a replacement

The above comment is not approval or Ismael/Waggott/Gestede/Suhail/etc, just a comment on how a 3-4-3 works and clarification of my own previous comments

They can, but we haven't played with wide forwards under Gestede (albeit I'm not sure what we've played - the players look lost). I gather he likes to big CFs and a man behind as a #10 - but I could be wrong.Β
