Should have bid for him in January when he was injured with just 6 months left to go on his contract.

That's how canny operators work. Birmingham are flush with cash so they're overpaying him - when you factor in the Stansfield transfer they're going to run foul of the FFP rules eventually.

Different rules in League 1, which Birmingham are operating under this season (based on income rather than profit/loss) & taking full advantage.

Gambling on promotion to the Prem next season before Championship profit & sustainability rules catch up with them, & if they fail, then they have some expensive young talent on long contracts to sell to balance the books

What about an offer to Jamie vardy. There'll probably be tons of clubs after him though

If he isn't doing charity work, his wages will be out of our price range

If he is doing charity work at basket case clubs with no money, he is a Sheff Wed fan

He's 38, I reckon he'll be knackered next season. Leicester fans are saying his legs have gone, so perhaps not as many clubs will be after him.

Almost perfect for our recruitment team.

How is the Head of Football Operations not aware if the club has a sell on % in the Adam Wharton deal?

That's a major influencer in transfers, future budget and generally.... just basic knowledge you'd expect anyone with transfer responsibility new or old within the club to be aware of.... on their first day. It doesn't matter if the deal happened before your time. Palace could sell him this summer.

You're telling me he seriously hasn't asked this? A potential £10 - £15m future windfall for the club.

There should have been no doubt. Absolute bunch of clowns... I'd say there isn't one.

Gestede looked scared to say no.

It seems we're looking at Geubbels, but that could just be the propaganda machine spinning 🥸

>Blackburn Rovers and Luton Town have FC St. Gallen’s Willem Geubbels on their agenda for the summer window.

He also stated that how much money was brought in (specifically from the Wharton & Szmodics deals) had no impact on the seasonal budget.

So if you were to take him at face value, why would he bother asking?   Even if we had a 50% sell on and Wharton is sold this summer for a world record fee (hyperbolic numbers to indicate how ludicrous this is), it still wouldn't impact transfer budgets or wage budgets according to Gestede .  Mental if true!

if he was a credible appointment, then that would have sent warning bells ringing for him straight away

Appears to be true. The Raya sell on was a £4m bonus last summer and had no impact on the budget or squad.

Could have signed a top goalkeeper.

Szmodics sale didn't impact the striker signing quality.

Wharton hasn't even been fully replaced with a quality CM. Bonkers stuff.

I mean he's right - any money generated through transfers clearly goes into paying the bills of the football club. It's not reinvested into the squad.

Which is precisely the reason I'd rather we never sold another player again and why I've been saying for years that it is pointless discussing the merits of selling X,Y or Z because all it does is help Venkys with their bills, it does nothing to help the transfer kitty or manager.

Sell, sell, sell, % for Adam Wharton, Raya - end result is Venkys' injections are reduced/stopped for a while. That's all there is to it.

Some fans still don't get this - I see stuff on Twitter all the time about selling X because the money is too good to turn down or is all he's worth etc.

But we aren't a normal club functioning with normal thought processes. All that happens here is the money goes into the black hole and the stooges collect some extra salary as a well done for helping the Indians save. Manager is left scratching around for frees and loans.

It's incredible people still take these links seriously.

Any signing like this would need to involve different owners.

I'm tempted to guess the opposite - there is one, but they're considering pretending there isn't so there is no pressure to spend any.

Although the rumour is real, it was supposed to be a comedy post. Seems like it went over everyone's heads.

Remember this gem?  ""We won't need to buy expensive players, we can always lease them. We don't expect to be in the top five of the Premier League. We will be happy to be in the top 10 to 12," Desai was quoted as saying in newspaper reports.
