Fratton Park on Saturday. Only ever been there once before for this game in 1984.

I went with my best mate from uni who is a Pompey fan. Went in with the Pompey fans. Two down at half time…great. Lots to thank Simon Garner for by full time though…

On Saturday I’ll be going again, accompanied by my best mate from uni…we’re in with the Rovers fans though this time…😆 ⚪️🔵

That was a great result. Some good players in the Portsmouth team.

Pompey with a pretty strong home record, Rovers with a recent abysmal record in general. Players injured plus seemingly woeful head coach. This surely can't be anything other than a home win, but the Championship is an odd one so I guess there's always a possibility of an away result....

I want to believe, but I just can't see it with the way things are heading.

Pompey 3 - 1 Rovers.

We'll concede in the first 10-15 minutes.

Show a bit of huff and puff but create nothing.

Concede again either just before or just after half time, and go on to lose 3-0.

12th consecutive away defeat against a promoted side, and the easiest 3 points Portsmouth get all season.

Similar to @Herbie6590, I'm going to this one with an old mate who is a Pompey fan. In truth, if I didn't have the rare chance to catch up with my friend there, I wouldn't have bought a ticket. But I am now kind of looking forward to a game where there is (slightly) more hope than expectation of any kind of decent result.

Opening goal is likely of huge importance.

Hi didn't really make the grade at Rovers, hence you not remembering him. I recall him, but had to search to get the info below, which I hope you find useful. Played the odd game as a stand in mainly.

As a youngster Glenn represented Wigan schools at both football and rugby league and he joined the town's football club, Wigan Athletic, when he left school.[3] His Football League debut arrived as a 17-year–old substitute against Port Vale on 6 September 1980, in place of his future Chester City team-mate Peter Houghton.[3] During his time at Wigan, he had a one-month trial with Chelsea in November 1982, during which time he played four times for their reserve side. The next three years produced more than 70 league appearances before he moved to Blackburn Rovers on a free transfer in August 1983.[3]

After failing to establish himself as a regular in the Blackburn side, Glenn rejected the offer of a new contract in the summer of 1985 and joined Fourth Division side Chester City.[3] He played his first game for the club in a 1–1 draw with Halifax Town on 17 August 1985, alongside fellow debutants Wakeley Gage, Milton Graham and Lee Harley, in Harry McNally's first game as Chester manager.[4] Glenn helped Chester win promotion in his first season at the club, scoring his only goal in a 3–2 win at Colchester United late in the season.[3]

Repeatedly picked in a position that is symptomatic of the lack of budget and poor recruitment over a number of years. Hence why people calling for "pacey wingers" has become a running joke.

Hes a wide man who doesnt score, doesnt create, cant take on his full back, is slow and his decision making is poor. Might be a nice guy and might work hard but thats not enough. Some make out as if hes a brilliant player off the ball but I dont even think hes that.

Those same managers keep picking Pears. So based on your logic we shouldnt want him replaced, shouldnt focus on what he cant do and should see that they must see him as a good player?

Mike Jackman says - “ David Glenn came to Blackburn on a free transfer from Wigan Athletic and was almost immediately thrust into the first team. With Mick Rathbone missing for much of the campaign - due to a broken leg. Glenn was given an extended run in the second division. Although not the most graceful of athletes, Glenn did remarkably well and appeared to be quite at home in higher company. His inclusion in the team meant that Jim Branagan had to cross over to left back and the following season, with Rathbone fit again, Glenn was rather unfortunate to lose his place as Bobby Saxton re-United Rathbone and Branagan. Glenn moved to Chester City in the summer of 1985 “.

He was only 5’8”tall so he wasn’t the biggest of players. To be honest I can’t remember much about him. It appears he was signed as cover for the full back position. Signing a first team player on a free from a team a division below us was unusual then.

Huge pressure on Ismael here.

Another defeat will underline an abysmal start for Ismael - would be 1 point in 5 games and 4 defeats on the bounce.

Think we will find out on Saturday if Ismael has already lost the dressing room - I think he has.

Doom and gloom, 3-1 to Pompey.

Beck and Batth are the two massively missed players. The defence went to crap under Eustace when Beck was out earlier in the season.
