I posted what I thought before, we were solid, organised and discipline performance. Making sure we didn't cut open and conceded first. I'm not over concerned about the lack of chances being created yesterday cos My biggest concern was conceding early goals. Yesterday we didn't, score first and won the game. You want your strikers to bring different qualities and in Gueye and Ohashi bring that. We can also played them together like we did against Luton at home or on Tuesday against Sheffield Wednesday, You want different options and both of them give us that. In some games you want Gueye to start and hold the ball up and put crosses in and in some games you want to press from the front, you want your striker to make clever runs in behind/down the channels. You need plan A, B and C if you asked me we have played Gueye and Ohashi at times haven't we? Luton at home, Derby away or Cardiff at home or Sheffield Wed at home As ever evrything in the garden is lovely. We will start next season without key players like Dolan and Travis. There can only be one reason to allow their contracts to run down----admin wants them out to get the wage bill down because there will be little money from Pune. The replacements will be cheaper. I'm happy when we win but behind it all is the hand of Venkys which will make future wins so much more unlikely. Edited Sunday at 22:05 by 47er 1 Quote

Cuppliance Posted yesterday at 07:24 Posted yesterday at 07:24 I normally go to 1 or 2 away games a season but that was my first win at an away match since Feb 2020. Felt good on the coach back this time for a change. 2 Quote
ruggles1995 Posted yesterday at 08:39 Posted yesterday at 08:39 very much a eustace performance that. We road our luck and stuck at it and got a win with a clean sheet. If this was under eustace id say good win. But under ismael im not sure this was a game plan or just a stroke of luck smash and grab. Luckily Luton lacked any real quality at every area of the pitch. I guess the millwall game will tell us more. The one thing I am baffled about, is Rudy and Ismael are talking about high press football for next season, when this current crop dont have the quality to produce it which is why were leaking goals since he came in and losing games. Saturday was the type of performances grinding out results this team has produced because thats probably what this group of players is capable of. Its mad how we've decided to rip up the one style thats got us so close and solid this season to decide to try and play kick and run football with players not capable of it. There going to have to sign a complete different style of player in the summer to pull off the way they are talking of football. Financially it would make more sense to keep a similar style of Eustace and add players to the current crop rather than need to sign a whole new 11 in the summer with a manager not proving hes capable thus far. I do fear the worst in the summer. There wanting to change style and whole new type of player and from the market of unknown as its more "affordable". I can see an 11 players of yuki gueye and kargbo without the mix of experience and championship experience which was probably similar type of team JDT had in his last period, team of inexperienced kids running around leaking goals. Its blatantly obvious now its spend zero, pick up cheap foreigners, pray they do something, try and pocket 5-10 mill on potential sell on value, and maybe try and fluke a playoff promotion or just stay in the championship with no ambition but don't relegated remit. 2 Quote
roversfan99 Posted yesterday at 08:49 Posted yesterday at 08:49 This is another problem with this modern day approach that supposedly has "improved" football. You get a director of football (in our case a total novice) with grand ideas of how football "should be played." Eustace played in a way that he felt gave us the best chance of getting results and he very much did that. Now Gestede wants us to play a certain type of football because its popular, irrespective of the fact that the squad are not suited to playing it and the players we could get on a limited budget wont be able to either. Its a backwards way of running a football club. Often ends in tears. Quote
Mattyblue Posted yesterday at 08:54 Posted yesterday at 08:54 Indeed. We did well this season because of the manager’s ’philosophy’, not that of the collection of ‘Head Of…’’s wandering around Brockhall. Need to stop being so ‘old fashioned’, obviously! 1 Quote
