Eddie Posted yesterday at 17:15 Posted yesterday at 17:15 I know there's already a Rudy thread, but wanted to create this separately and hope the mods allow. We had Rudy on our podcast today, here's a link to the episode: We tried to push on some topics and there are definitely areas that don't make a ton of sense, but I do give him credit for sitting through the entire thing. The interview starts at around 15 minutes in. I would have loved to pushed harder on a couple of topics, but interviewing does require a certain degree of balance and it does give us the chance to get him back on. When we do have him back on, which questions would you like to hear asked? Are there other figures at the club that you'd like to see on the podcast (we can do our best). Subscribing and leaving a review of the podcast is always much appreciated. We also don't do a ton on social media, but we also appreciate follows: https://x.com/TheBigChillPod https://www.instagram.com/big_chill_podcast/ 1 Quote

Eddie Posted yesterday at 17:16 Author Posted yesterday at 17:16 For comparison, we had Brett Johnson on a couple of days before. He's one of the co-owners of Ipswich Town. It's an interest contrast (although a much shorter interview - starts around 20 in). https://open.spotify.com/episode/6iTryIGGL4DoIk6YNCV8nc?si=32a16c340296489a Quote

Bronzed A Donis Posted yesterday at 18:37 Posted yesterday at 18:37 Thanks for the link. I liked when you asked "where is the money going" with what appeared to be a large dose of cynicism. Nearly threw my phone at 48 minutes though. I see the new narrative at play we still think it's 1995.... 3 Quote

Popular Post RoverDom Posted yesterday at 19:06 Popular Post Posted yesterday at 19:06 Haven't listened to the podcast yet, but I'd like him to be asked how we are meant to trust him given how he forced his way out the club as a player. 11 Quote

I will say, he did sit through it all and answered everything, even if he didn't necessarily get to the heart of every issue or answer it in a way that fans would like to hear. 2 Quote
Eddie Posted 23 hours ago Author Posted 23 hours ago To clarify, that isn't me defending all of the answers, just giving him some credit for actually responding to everything. Quote
J*B Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago I truly cannot believe the board are letting him keep speak to people. He’s a total liability with a microphone in front of him. 9 Quote

We didn't offer that in this instance - nor was it requested - and the episode was out 2 hours after recording. 7 Quote

We need to start demanding that the shadow man does these interviews. If anyone needs to be grilled it's him. 1 Quote

I keep thinking of the words to that Donald Trump chant- to the old Rudy chant. "Hey, Rudy, I want to know -oh-ow why you're such a ****" Edited 23 hours ago by Leonard Venkhater 2 Quote

islander200 Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago Unreal We want to develop our academy players and sell them with none of the money going back into the team We should be happy this ffs Gestede is an absolute clown 5 Quote

There are elements that are logical, but the money has to be reinvested (or at least, a substantial part of it). Otherwise, you're just hoping for consistent miracles from your academy and your recruitment. It's as far from sustainable as you can possibly get. The club should also be taking advantage of periods where FFP is in their favour, instead, they're just passively existing through them. 9 Quote

It also risked going into a never-ending repetitive cycle on some of the talking points. 1 Quote

I thought you did an excellent job, chaps. It’s the best interview I’ve heard with the powers that be. In my eyes, you really put a spotlight on how ridiculous Gestede’s ideas were. It actually tells me clearly what’s going on at the club. Gestede talked about building a team full of high markups, after being purchased for low prices / bringing through the players from the youth set up, all whilst aiming to move the club forward. But, you exposed the stupidity of the idea, when you questioned how this could happen when so little of the fees raised (from recent player sales), were being reinvested into the squad. To conclude, this spotlight has made something clear in my opinion- Venky’s have had enough and want out. I think, in their eyes though, respecting Jack Walker’s legacy is all about keeping the club solvent now. They won’t send anything across in addition to that though, as they’ve lost interest, from what I can see. If player sales are made, they’ll be used the bridge the circa £20 million we lose every year. I could be wrong though! Surely, if you had any interest though, you’d attend the occasional game? Years of them not being at home games tells me otherwise. Well done all- I think the next step for the coalition (if it’s not already moving that way) is to start finding people who’ll invest in the club, and use the direct line they may well have to the owners. If they won’t sell, let someone come in and invest (like at Man Utd) and take over the day-to-day of the running club. Edited 14 hours ago by scotchrover 4 Quote

I think there are some pretty obvious gaps in the logic and the finance and transfer budget side of things is one of the bigger ones. If the transfer fees are being used for operational costs and are need to cover those costs...that's OK? Not good. Not ideal. But, we can at least know where we stand. But they aren't need for that? But they're used for that? I don't see the benefit of pushing that explanation. 2 Quote
