On the Stillorgan Road?

I guess we now know who the rich members of the messageboard are.

If either of you is bringing a car its easy enough to drive to Bray from there.

Oh and its in Dublin, 3 miles south of the city centre I'd say.

I'm definately not rich! Just thought it was too good an opportunity to miss.  It's costing me £240 for 6 nights in a five star hotel - not often you can stay in a 5 star hotel for £40 a night.

I'm not taking my car though - the ferries cost a fortune - so I will be getting the Dart to Bray.

I've never been to Ireland before so I'm really looking forward to it.

Well now, just make sure you go outside Dublin during your six days, and see the real Ireland.

I think it does have a golf course, but I don't play so not sure.

Good price you guys got, I had no idea you could stay there for that low a charge, it is a really nice place.

Still twice what I would consider affordable, but then I'm a skiving soap-dodging student who generally ends up in B&B's.   :)

Flposy, I don't think the ferry ever costs that much when the Irish Rovers go over, you probably need to find a few people willing to share the cost of the car, fool them into thinking its cheaper to go with you than as foot-passengers.   :<img src=:'>

I'm certainly planning a couple of days out - I quite fancy a day at the races in Tipperary on the Thursday evening.

Might go somewhere on the Bank Holiday Monday as well but I've no idea what public transport will be like on that day.

I don't think the hotel itself has a golf course - but I think it's near a couple.

Ste - it's about 3 miles from the city centre (where Temple Bar is) apparently.

I still have to book my accommodation and will do in a week or so. I'm in a deliberation as to wether or not to say until the Sunday as i'm off to Robiw Williams concert on the Saturday.

See those ppl from ROI you can't even trust one fecker. In relation to 'Dr Richs' swipe at conning ppl to go by ferry.  :p

In regards to 'Temple Bar', it is one of teh places to be. It is an old cobbled street lined with bars, nite-clubs and restaurants. Be be sure to have more than a few euro in your back pocket! The prices of drink over overwhelming to say the least. Temple bar is just off O'connoll street which is in the city centre.

Any more questions or tips?

Looks like my better half and I will be going over for two nights. Likely to stop in Dublin though.

Fortunate enough to have been to Dublin a couple of times - a great place to visit. No need to eat just drink the black stuff. Temple Bar is the place to be but is more your commercial side of the City.

Strange but true but I've been to Bray before - went on the Dart. Was advised to go and have a look as its a really nice place. When we went it rained all day - found a couple of good pubs and then hot footed it back to Dublin. Not the biggest place in the world so I'd advise stopping nearer to Dublin.

The view from the Dart is breathtaking in that the route goes along the edge of some cliffs and it feels as though you're actually out at sea - bit like the Big One at Blackpool but cheaper and not as quick. One day they'll be a disaster you can bet on it.

No doubt meet up with some of you who are travelling over.

Well you definitely can't trust the Northern lot, Temple Bar is not off O'Connell St, its off Westmoreland St, which is the one that runs between O'Connell St and Trinity College.

Alcohol in Ireland is ridiculously expensive btw.

You can say that again, hope nobody is of a nervous disposition regarding heights or overhanging cliffs.  :)

Might be pretty normal actually, I know BusEireann ran a normal service on Good Friday so I imagine they might do the same on a bank holiday, else things will be on Sunday services which means you'll still be able to get around, you just wouldn't want to be trying to cram in different locations.

How near is this place to Temple Bar ?

Apparently thats the place to stop isn't it.

I'm not that enamoured with Temple Bar, as Bob says, its very commercialised , but I suppose if you've got the cash to spare it'll be worth it.

There's a completely and utterly brilliant pub somewhere near Heuston Station, I think it on the north side of The Liffey.

It's got snugs and the most fabulous interior architecture.

Any idea what it could be called. it must be a good ten years since I was in there.

Yeah smart arse, its not all that far of O'Connoll st. Much of a muchness, well once you are on O'Connoll st Temple bar isn't too far away.

It all depends. I remember getting into a bar at 8am behind the Bus station. But apart from that once off feat, then i'll say 11.30-12.00pm-ish. How about all going to O'Donovans (near to Bus & Train stations) where the ROI branch hold their meetings. Say stick on a few Rovers' videos, such as, WC, Premiership winning season etc

Provisional announcement

ROI branch plan to hold a function after the game in Old Wesley Rugby Club in Donnybrook, which is one of the biggest nightclub/disco type locations in Dublin and also has a members bar available so we can change plans dependant on the expected volume of people. This is on the road from Dublin to Bray , and also near the DART line, and for those of you in the Raddisson its only just down the road.

We are going to try to get some of the players to stop by for a while too.

Basically what it is going to be is one giant @#/?-up, and you are all invited.

We wouldn't all fit in Donovans, Groo.

No idea Colin, there are a lot of pubs near Heuston(it is Ireland after all), and what are snugs?

Pub opening times officially are like Groo says, but the likelyhood is that they will probably stay open till about 3 or so if there is a big crowd, and we aren't going to shut down our function until nobody is left standing

We are also planning to get a bit of footie going around about lunchtime on the day of the game so if anyone is interested in playing or better yet can organise a team, send me a pm.

I think I've found it now. Ryans of Parkgate Street.

A snug has pretty much gone out of fashion, it is a small room in a pub where a certain type of customer tends to congregate, quite often of an elderly peruasion.

If you ever get to see an early episode of Corrie it's where Martha Longhurst, Minnie Caldwell & Ena Sharples used to be.

Steady on young whipper snapper me lad. Less of the elderly persuasion.

I would prefer the term a room where the "mature and experienced fraternity." gather for congenial conversation and merryment.

such as going on about "young people today", "In my day" the war, what respect was, how you used to go for a week on half a shilling and still have change.
