BlueMonday Posted June 12, 2003 Posted June 12, 2003 I'll be staying in Ballycastle in the north that week, so I'm considering driving down. Its hard to judge looking at a map how long a drive it will be. Can any of the irish rovers help me on this ?

Dr Rich Posted June 12, 2003 Posted June 12, 2003 I don't know where Ballycastle is, so probably not. 2-3 hours, at a guess.

aroversfan Posted June 12, 2003 Posted June 12, 2003 I'd say it'll take you about 3-4hrs especially if you have to drive on the M1 near Belfast, and through Dundalk and Drogheda on the way on the main Belfast to Dublin Rd Try and do this journey before 4 or after 7 if can be helped See http://www.theaa.com/travelwatch/inc/planner_main_redirect.jsp for better idea
rover_groo Posted June 12, 2003 Posted June 12, 2003 I don't know where Ballycastle is, so probably not. 2-3 hours, at a guess. Its on the coast, north of belfast. 'bluemonday', i think the journey would take in teh region of near 4hrs. As 'aroversfan' states, make the journey early, i would advise 2pm, as you want to make it clear of the surrounding areas of Belfast as work would be drawing to a close around 4-5pm. The only other option whcih might prevail, is that our branch might be taking a bus down, not sure on the size, as it all depends on the interested no. It would be leaving from Ballymena, which is about 30miles of Ballycastle. Now this is only a suggestion, which we are looking into and more than likely would be a day return, for costs and the members who have to work the next day! Hope this has been of some use to you!
BlueMonday Posted June 13, 2003 Posted June 13, 2003 Cheers guys, thats great. Rover groo, I've still to book the ferry ect, but if I'm in the area for that week( and Mrs. Bluemonday will let me out for the day !!) your bus sounds like a good idea. Keep me informed ! By the way I've just found out the Bushmills distillary is just down the road so I might be A.W.O.L. for the week
rover_groo Posted June 14, 2003 Posted June 14, 2003 By the way I've just found out the Bushmills distillary is just down the road so I might be A.W.O.L. for the week I've heard that Bushmills is more than worth the visit. I've never managed to make it to there, probably due to teh fact that my stomach can't stomach Whisky, so there you go. I've been on the Guinness one quite a few times and its more than worth that visit. But sure we'll be in contact and take things from there!
DP Posted June 17, 2003 Posted June 17, 2003 Can anyone confirm the kick off time for the game. Torn between flight times of 7am (would rather not) or 1:30pm on the Wednesday. Don’t want to risk running late though. Also, I know people have been kind enough to post links, but is there any indication of how many tickets there will be and how they will be sold/allocated? cheers
Dr Rich Posted June 17, 2003 Posted June 17, 2003 I don't think Bray have confirmed it, I imagine it will be 7.30 or 7.45 though, as that's when Eircom League games start. Capacity is 3,000, allocation/selling isn't decided, but rumours are that tickets will not be available on match day.
Tris Posted June 17, 2003 Posted June 17, 2003 I've been on the Guinness one quite a few times and its more than worth that visit. But sure we'll be in contact and take things from there! I am able to get a limited number of free passes for the Guinness Storehouse, pm me if interested.

But as Rich correctly says its an evening kick-off and i would recommend that you get over early to settle in and maybe get a few hrs kip in your accommodation if needed. But most importantly you won't be in a rush and you can taste the Dublin atmosphere!!
Scotty Posted June 18, 2003 Posted June 18, 2003 ROI branch plan to hold a function after the game in Old Wesley Rugby Club in Donnybrook, which is one of the biggest nightclub/disco type locations in Dublin and also has a members bar available so we can change plans dependant on the expected volume of people. This is on the road from Dublin to Bray , and also near the DART line, and for those of you in the Raddisson its only just down the road. We are going to try to get some of the players to stop by for a while too. Basically what it is going to be is one giant @#/?-up, and you are all invited. Any more news on this yet?
Dr Rich Posted June 18, 2003 Posted June 18, 2003 Erm .... umm ....., it probably won't happen, with an evening kick-off, we can't expect to get everyone there till about 11, and with people wanting to go out on Temple Bar, it's a bit late. Also the players are committed to a function of Bray Wanderers. Sorry. If there was enough people wanting to go to an organised event we might put something on still.
DP Posted June 18, 2003 Posted June 18, 2003 Cheers guys I decided to spend an extra tenner on the ticket and fly at 11am. The best way all round. Got 3 nights from Wednesday so going to be an expensive one as bringing the bird as well (and before you ask she does know about the football!) So it looks like centre of Dublin is the place to stay, but plenty of beers in Bray before the match.
Jordan Posted June 18, 2003 Posted June 18, 2003 Booked flights ages ago but still havent booked a hotel. Has anyone got any ideas or sites. Will be in Dublin for about 11am then going to the hotel and should be out on the lash by midday.
Anti Euro Smiths Fan Posted June 18, 2003 Posted June 18, 2003 Jordan - You could try www.1stdublinhotels.com/ Prices though are in Bloody Euros. As Abbey would say - Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Should be out on the lash by midday. Have a good time. Will you be dipping your tight Yorkshire hand into your pocket for a change? :'>

Now if I didn't know better, I'd say Gemma was either Joe's girlfriend standing by her man, or perhaps Joe has done a Danny Le Rue impression....
Modi Posted June 18, 2003 Posted June 18, 2003 Modi Shes his mum, look at the signature Now that is worrying. His mum's his girlfriend. Surely that would make him a Burnley supporter and not a Rovers fan?
Will Posted July 7, 2003 Posted July 7, 2003 There was a post on here a while back about the forthcoming game in Ireland, is that still available ?? I want to read it !
Kandevil Posted July 7, 2003 Posted July 7, 2003 Thinking that I should really get my accomodation booked soon. Any ideas when we can expect match ticket news?
