Forget the performance on the playing field, speculation, rumours and gossip, is the fundamental element of football that makes the game so addictive.Whist success on the playing field will raise the profile and attendances of a club, it’s the tabloid headlines that grab the attention of the supporters on a daily basis.

With so many conflicting stories regarding the transfer of Damian Duff, Blackburn Rovers supporters are currently typical of this trend, searching for every snippet of news relating to their club in the press and media.

In recent weeks Blackburn supporters have had the protracted transfers associated with the sale of David Dunn to Birmingham and the signing of Lorenzo Amoruso from Rangers  plus the surprise signing of Australian International Brett Emerton. Last week was the sudden departure of Craig Hignett on a free transfer to Leicester.

As the new season draws nearer Blackburn’s players will commence the annual pre season friendlies, starting this week (Wednesday) at D.C.Washington in the USA, their supporters meanwhile will be searching for rumours, gossip and concrete information on whether Duff will decide to join Chelski or once again grace the emerald green turf at Ewood Park in the blue and white halves, plus who manager Graeme Souness will strengthen the squad with.
