How did Blackburn play today?

I feel Pete and SMc have a point here....we should not be too bitter about the result at Parkhead.

I walked out of Parkhead bursting with pride because my team had shown the nation just how GOOD we can be. So often we get on the box and then turn into a laughing stock. I know people who don't agree with that view but it is truely how I felt and I'll take the pride in my team above the result ..... for that match. I haven't seen Celtic play for I don't know how long (I do remember the Lions of Lisbon :( )....and I suspect most of us have never seen them perform so perhaps we should give them the benefit of the doubt.

I feel Celtic and Rangers fail every year in Europe and on the basis of Thursday Celtic wouldn't hack it in the PL... but it is difficult to judge. However I am not full of confidence for the return leg. I believe we will win but we must score at least three to avoid the disaster of playing well, going two up and then losing in the 92nd minute to an away goal.

You should be an MP giving evasive answers like that.

Answer the question !

Why dont we join the La Liga? Good question, Lets face it the Premiership would be too easy, as no Premiership sides has beaten us for a long time so whats the point of joining that!!! ha,ha!

Just kidding before you blow a gasket!!!

Think weve talked this one to death though!  :D

Pete, I've seen more of Bobo Balde than most Rovers fans I suppose, and I'm not terribly impressed to be honset. He does the job against SPL teams (usually), but whenever playing against top opposition, he gets shown up - clumsy, incredibly poor positional sense at times and struggles against players that are too slippery for him to simply flatten. All that said, his threat from set pieces is more than considerable - possibly the strongest outfield player I've ever seen. I think when Mjallby gets back fit, O'Neill (if he's still around :<img src=:'> ) should be playing Valgaeren, Mjallby and Laursen as his back 3.

I'm with SteB on this one.

We played outstanding last Thursday but got beat. We'll have to live with it. In fact it's strange that we got more credit in defeat than we normally get in victory. As for Celtic they looked poor but we've looked poor in certain games before. You can't judge a side on 1 game.

There's still 1 game to go in which Rovers can try to finsih the job and convert their superiority so far into an actual victory. There's also still 1 game to go for Celtic to show there first leg showing was all wrong by matching and bettering Rovers at Ewood. I feel what will happen will lie somewhere in between these two scenarios with the winner going through by 1 goal (or god forbid away goals).

Altough I wasn't at Celtic for the first game the atmosphere seemed very poor but a Celtic fan has already admitted elsewhere this was down to disbelief in how well Rovers / badly celtic played. Where the boot on the other foot, as for long periods of the Villa game yesterday, we'd hardly raise the roof would we!

A final prediction.

Souness  :D

There are some really touchy people on this board right now. I guess it's down to some childish intruders but still, some are decent folks. Why not try to read what everyone actually has to say and not interpret everything as slagging off the rovers? I can't believe the attitude of some people here..

Only one thing is certain, that nothing is decided yet, and anything can happen. (Of course it'd better be in Rovers' favour!) :rover:

Well there are 3 things that really irritate me as far as the Celtic fans go, and it seems to be consistent throughout.

Firstly, is the notion that "Celtic will not play that badly again." Why can't they just face up to the fact that we didnt alow them to play? Celtic's poor performance was not down to them, it was down to us.

Secondly, the idea that Rovers couldn't possibly play any better. Anyone who says something like that obviously doesn't watch the Rovers play very much. It is going purely on the idea that we are just a small team and as such last Thursday must have been some sort of freak performance. This view is ignorance of the highest order.

Finally, I can't fathom why the Celts still wont give credit where its due. We are continually being reminded that Celtic won the game and being asked to recognise that, but I'm yet to hear a Celt comment on how good we were without blotting it with a sly or negative comment just afterwards. Most if not all neutrals that saw the game have commented on how we were far better and how we outplayed Celtic, not to mention how the atmosphere was terrible on their part. All we hear are excuses about all these things and how next time will be different.

Rovers have given people reason to believe we are the better side, but yet we are all still expected to believe Celtic will come to Ewood and beat us 2 or 3 nil. I can assure all you Celtic fans that far superior teams have tried and failed. At the moment it just seems that no matter how well we play the Celtic fans will still condescend about "little Blackburn." Surely its about time they faced up the reality?

I only hope we can show them up for what the really are when they get to our bit. Although for some reason I feel that still wouldn't be enough to shut them up.

Tchocky

I agree. There are too many bears with sore paws about here at the moment.

Everyone has said how friendly the Glaswegians were in Glasgow and the Celtic fans who have posted here have been courteous and friendly and do not deserve some of the bile directed at them.

I think most of them did realise that they were well and truly outclassed, but it's not like they are going to come straight out and kiss our feet because of it. They still are rivalling fans and will still support their own team, no matter how much worse they are.

I thought the comments on here (the beginning of the thread) weren't smug at all, but then I don't read between the lines..

Perhaps you should begin too. Might make you realise that all are not as innocent as they profess.

Not to mention differing opinions?!

It is my opinion that the Celtic fans are a nuisance that aren't needed. Surely there are Celtic boards they can post on? After a while an influx of certain fans from certain clubs can get tiresome. All the Liverpool fans over the summer whilst Duffer's contract talks were ongoing are one example. As soon as he signed they were all gone. There's nothing wrong with having visitors, I'm just of the opinion that the Celtic ones have out stayed their welcome.

As the man who started this thread I can honestly and sincerely say they were not supposed to be smug or snide in any way shape or form.

To be honest Ill not be posting again on this forum.  Most replies are decent, but the odd few are childish and downright annoying, and I for one cannot be ars*d with them, it bugs me too much.

..........back to the huddleboard for me!!!!

All the best for next Thursday and may the best team win (celtic obviously!)

Pete,

Stick around mate - I may not have posted on this thread but I, for one, appreciate reading the alternative view.  We need to know the gossip and feelings from Glasgow before next Thursday.

Cheers.

By the way - my only criticism of Glasgow?  Trying to get a cab to the airport at 3.00 a.m. Friday morning!!  NIGHTMARE.  Other than that - great time, great people.

Agree with that.

Pete and one or two others have come on here with reasoned arguements. They have all admitted we played them off the park, but football isn't about just playing well.

Like a few others on here, I left the ground with my head held high. Very proud of our performance & very happy that a huge audience had seen us play some very sexy football.

The amount of people I've since spoken to at work who are neutrals were all very complimentary about how well we passed the ball and kept possession.

Lets just look forward to the return leg! I think Celtic will play better than they did, but i also think that we will be a lot better around the box.

Could Celtic hack it in the prem - of course they bloody could! & I'd love to have them there as opposed to a leicester / bolton / sunderland / west brom etc.

It would be a great away game each year!

i'm sure they would - but league position counts! Hopefully it won't affect us because we'll stay a top 10 club.

And money talks. Within 5 yrs they will be playing in the premiership. All the FA debackle that's going on points towards it.

The Premier League chairman want to control all elements of the game & it looks more than likely that this proffessional  game board will consist of mainly premier league people.

Add to this the poewr of Murdoch.  When the next rights deal comes around in 2 years time, there will be noone else to make a serious bid other than SKY. The money each premier league team will be a lot lower ( if indeed a collective deal is done again)  the Man U's , Arsenal's and Liverpools all want to negotiate there own global deals.

So - how do the chairman make more money? They invite rangers and celtic to the premier league which enables more gate receipts and more tv viewing figures.

No gaskets being blown,

just healthy debate.

You made a comment that only the ENGLISH  thought the premiership was good and that we were insular.

I was just pointing out that your club was pulling out all the stops to join the said "third rate league", which doesn't support what your saying.

Thats the beauty of this board, everyone is free to air their views, and anyone can challenge them.

Well, I must say, the comments have been much better over the past day or so!....except Tugay's of course. Thanks to those who welcome rival fans on here, it's a pleasant board to visit.

Few things to state.

1) I like Blackburn Rovers, I hope they do well in the Premiership.

2) I enjoy this board, seems to be a lot of decent fans here.

3) Blackburn were excellent against Celtic and deserved to win.

4) I, and no other Celtic fan I have met, has a 'condescending attitude towards rovers! Tugay, you have a chip on your shoulder about Celtic fans for some reason!

Tugay, your point about 'Blackburn not allowing Celtic to play'...is true to a certain extent. You kept the ball very well. However, my assessment of Celtic's terrible performance was based on the periods we DID have the ball. We couldn't put two passes together. It was infuriating. I was going mad at half time, cursing everyone of them as they were making so many basic errors.

I have held a Celtic season ticket since 1987, I think I can judge their standard of play. The reason so many Celtic fans are saying 'we can't perform as bad again' is because it is true. It takes nothing from Rovers saying that, Rovers are a very good team.

If you ask me to compare both teams, I think Celtic and Rovers are pretty close, whatever happens second leg. Maybe you will play terrible next game and us brilliant....but I wont be on here saying 'Rovers are 2nd division blah blah' because no matter the score, it wont cloud my view of both teams.

Once again, thanks to those with useful comments, roll on the 2nd leg.

Cheers
