northernsoul Posted November 11, 2002 Posted November 11, 2002 i wonder how many people feel a bit worried about the prospect of -hundreds of celtic fans in the town before the match ? it is anybodys guess how many and for how long [ie those with tickets] will be in the town centre. they will know that theres more chance of a drink away from ewood during the day . i went to the game at scum several years ago with celtic-[ i went with my step dad who was born up there in glasgow] and i hope to hell i never see scenes like that night - the violence and missile throwing from the celtic fans had to be seen to believed.the scum fans just did not exist after the first celtic[infantry ]charge then it was just missile throwing at the police or anybody in range. after the game the celtic fans were just on the rampage down towards the town centre, i even saw them drag a mounted policeman dragged off his horse.the plan was to restrict their drinking but they came into blackburn before the game buying large amounts of drink in the offys . so if in town on thurs beware.

Gav Posted November 11, 2002 Posted November 11, 2002 Having been in the main Celtic pub in Glasgow and generally mixed with around 55k+ of them, on their own patch, i'll certainly be drinking in town on Thursday afternoon as we had so much good banter with them previously. Go out and enjoy the day because you never know when a game like this will come around again.
Flopsy Posted November 11, 2002 Posted November 11, 2002 absolutely I know its been mentioned on one of the other Forums - but should we try and "organise" a meet up of those from the board going - it would be interesting and fun to meet people who use this board and also means that Tris wont scare the hell out of me like he did at Birmingham
Jim Royle Posted November 11, 2002 Posted November 11, 2002 Yep, got to get in town early and sample the atmosphere. You have to make the most of situations like these. Celtic fans gave us no grieve as hosts and so I wouldn't expect anything different down here, not 'til after the match anyway when they have been knocked out o'cup.
Wide-Bhoy Posted November 11, 2002 Posted November 11, 2002 Is that the scare moungiring started. At least a right few of you's lads were up at Parkhead & reported back that you's had a really good time & found the Celtic fans were very hospitable. I can tell you Celtic have great traveling fans & don't let anybody tell you different, Yes there will be a few arseholes amongst us, but every club has them. Just look at the amount of times we are invited down south for friendlys or testamonials. That would not happen if we were starting trouble.

I'd go for a pub on the outskirts of town to avoid it being an away supporter only pub. I'm available from 11am

Flopsy Posted November 11, 2002 Posted November 11, 2002 Im available from the time i get to B'burn from Brum leaving at 12, and i also need somewhere to park - so ill be available about 7ish
Ste B Posted November 11, 2002 Posted November 11, 2002 See separate thread.. starting now.. ... nah, I'll highjack this one instead.. Any Fans fancy meeting - post here.. any of the Celtic fans who have graced this board - Smc, Pete etc feel free to meet up for a pint as well. Gavs idea sounds best, meet near town somewhere, and head on down. We can exchange mobile nos etc for later arrivals etc.
Flopsy Posted November 11, 2002 Posted November 11, 2002 Ill probably park near the ground then walk into town (if i can remember my way - it has been 6 years)
Tris Posted November 11, 2002 Posted November 11, 2002 14May1995 and me will be in Blackburn about 5.30 - 6 ... in the unlikely event that the M40 / M6 are behaving themselves.
Flopsy Posted November 11, 2002 Posted November 11, 2002 To those having to drive to matches you might want to have a look at this site before you leave Highways agency Interactive map and click on the interactive map
1864roverite Posted November 11, 2002 Posted November 11, 2002 Posting messages about what happened in dingletown in 1977 aint such a good thing. Violence was rife all over the British Isles then. The scots looked after us up there in Glasgow and I think they will pretty much be the same when they come to our town. Let them enjoy the drink and if your in the pub with them sing a long or just listen to some of the songs, you will have a good laugh if you make them welcome. Singing anti sectarian songs is the only way there will be trouble. But something better.... shout and sing louder than them, if you were at Celtic Park you know it works.. Comon you mighty blues

SMc_Celtic Posted November 11, 2002 Posted November 11, 2002 Thanks Rovers fans for the invite.....tell me place, where and when and I'll try and make it...because found out today....I HAVE A TICKET !!!! YEEESSSSSSSSSSSS !!!!! Good luck Pete.....hope you manage to get one. Can't wait !!!
tucker Posted November 11, 2002 Posted November 11, 2002 just out of curiosity SMC, how hard was it to get a ticket and how do Celtic go about disatributing tickets?
Hannah Posted November 11, 2002 Posted November 11, 2002 I've got a ticket but at the moment Im not allowed to come to the game! Still arguing my case but even if i can come I cant leave here till after 3. Someone save a parking space for me PLEASE!
Alan75 Posted November 11, 2002 Posted November 11, 2002 Ill probably park near the ground then walk into town (if i can remember my way - it has been 6 years) 1.First move your left leg forward 2.Now move your right leg forward. 3.Back to ITEM 1.

You're mischief making pal!.Neither Rovers or Celtic have a large hooligan following and a very large police presence on the night will ensure it passes off peacefully and in good spirits whatever the result.Like some of our Celtic visitors have stated, there has been little trouble at games in England when they have played recently.Ewood will be rocking on the night, its going to be some atmosphere...... THURSDAY CANT COME QUICK ENOUGH!!!!!!
Guest grahamhowarth Posted November 12, 2002 Posted November 12, 2002 There is only one problem! The filth have been telling the pubs not to open or they won't be available in the event of trouble. Any that open ie family type pubs for meals have a dress policy anyway and have been told not to let anyone in wearing a celtic shirt or if they think they are an awayfan etc. So the fans are going to have to buy their drink from the offie and will end up buying a licquer bottle because it is easier to carry and hide but unfortunately it gets you @#/? quicker. Any pub near the ground will be a back door policy with the plod not being able to control the way or when they arrive they think it best to just close everything down.My uncle wasn't happy at all after his visit from the filth, especially when he asked if they would pay his wages if he couldn't serve and they told him to fook orf.Treat people like that and you reap what you sow.

SMc_Celtic Posted November 12, 2002 Posted November 12, 2002 Tucker.....I had extreme difficulty getting my ticket....I was very, very fortunate and came from a good friend with connections...nudge nudge The tickets were distributed through the 'European away game registration list'...which i am on...but did not get my ticket through that. I know of full supporters buses going down....without ANY tickets!! It's going to be a busy night!! As for the pubs closing.....how bloody stupid is that! Let's have Celtic fans wandering the streets with carry-outs as we won't get into pubs! The fans are coming down to have a drink and a laugh.......by doing this, the police will be causing more trouble than preventing it! Sometimes I wonder about the logic behind such decisions! Pathetic!
jas Posted November 12, 2002 Posted November 12, 2002 I'll be there!!!! once the meeting place is named!!! We will be in Blackburn around 4ish, with a massive Champions flag wrapped around the back of the jeep!!!!! Look out for us!! C'MON THE HOOPS!
colin Posted November 12, 2002 Posted November 12, 2002 I know of full supporters buses going down....without ANY tickets!! It's going to be a busy night!! Lancashire's finest may be daft for closing all the pubs, but that lot are daft with bells on.
