Selection problems mount for Blackburn manager Graeme Souness, when it was confirmed today that Italian centre half Amoruso will be out of action until the new year, after undergoing a knee operation.

Prior to the main operation, an exploratory operation revealed a similar problem that Thompson had last season. This injury compounds Blackburn’s  defensive problems with Short, Babbell and Neill already side lined with injuries and Todd being cup tied for next weeks game against Liverpool.

Meanwhile trialist Qu Bo has returned to his club Qingdao in China to regain his fitness.

Rovers chief executive John William is reported as saying : "Qu Bo is still some four to six weeks away from full fitness and officials at his club have decided that he should continue his rehabilitation back home."
