A spirited second half fightback by Blackburn was not enough, as they went down 2-1 to United at Old Trafford this afternoon.

On the half hour the Rovers defence failed to intercept a through ball by Fortune who put van Nistelrooy through, to beat Friedel at the near post.

With half-time approaching a move that involved Ruud van Nistelrooy and Quinton Fortune lead to Kleberson stroking the ball past Friedel in to the back of the net.

HALF TIME 2-0

At the start of the second half Blackburn made two substitutions. Bringing on Gallagher and Johansson for Jansen and Reid.

Within 20 minutes of the restart, Gallagher slid the ball through to allow Brett Emerton through for a one to one with  Howard, and make no mistake in beating the keeper.
