paulyrover Posted July 17, 2004 Posted July 17, 2004 this is what i think with a fully fit squad, what are best 11 would be and the one i exspect to start against west brom. friedel neill short matteo gray emerton ferguson thompson de pedro stead dickov the keepers obvious. 3 of the back 4 virtually guaranteed with only short at risk because amoruso could come in there. Emerton and de pedro probably on the wings and ferguson in the centre. Then i think he will put thompson in the centre aswell because i remember when we first got him souness was saying that his best position was the centre rather than the wing plus flitcroft looks passed it and has lost the captaincy and tugay is getting on a bit and the only other one is douglas who hasnt got enough experience and thompson always comes into the centre when hes playing on the wing anyway. Then that leaves stead and dickov who look to be the first choice pairing up front though i would love to have a jansen-stead partnership with gallacher and dickov coming of the bench but i dont think that will happen.

RoverDrake Posted July 17, 2004 Posted July 17, 2004 Friedel Neill Amoruso McEveley Gray Emerton Thompson Ferguson De Pedro Stead Dickov (would of said Cole but his depature looks likely)
Philly Rover ® Posted July 17, 2004 Posted July 17, 2004 Let's make sure Rovers are done their offseason moves before we pick an XI for the season.

T4E Posted July 17, 2004 Posted July 17, 2004 Bearing in mind it's a month away and we'll almost certainly have further squad changes - Friedel Neill Matteo Amoruso Gray Thompson Tugay Ferguson De Pedro Stead Dickov In particular I think the midfield looks very strong, up front we've got two players that will work their socks off for us, and defensively we're looking stable for the first time in a while. Looking forward to it now.

Odd formation, we finally get a left winger and we play him on the right? Oh I see, Dean Saunders wants to?
grizfoot Posted July 17, 2004 Posted July 17, 2004 Kepper Friedel Gotta to be Brad hasn't it although Enks is a good back-up incease Brad gets injured/suspended. Defence Neill, Amoruso, Matteo, Gray That should be the back 4 for the first game and Short, McEverly & Nissa re back-up for when Amo & Matteo decided to get injured. Midfield Emerton, Ferguson, Thommo, De Pedro That will be our first choice midfield with Flitty, Tugay, Douglas & Reid suppling cover in all 4 midfield slots. Strikers Stead, Dickov Well that's presuming Cole leaves if not he would be in instead of Dickov. Back-up would be Gally & Jansen.

roversWASmylife Posted July 17, 2004 Posted July 17, 2004 Friedel Neill Matteo Amoruso Gray Thompson Tugay Ferguson De Pedro Stead Dickov Would agree with everything there. The midfield now looks promising, my only concerns is that if we have similar injuries to key players like we did last season, we will be in trouble. With a month to go, I wouldn’t be too surprised if Souness is given some transfer funds to strengthen the squad. The Cole situation looks done now, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the “mystery trialist” will be signed up with another player possibly, after all Souness has only spent £150k, but has forced the club to spend money on Cole`s departure. Overall, looks a good team.
krislu Posted July 17, 2004 Posted July 17, 2004 (edited) Friedel Neill Amoruso Matteo Gray Emerton Thompson Ferguson De Pedro Gallagher Stead or Friedel Neill Amoruso Metteo Gray Douglas Flitcroft Tugay Ferguson Gresko Dickov This is how we will play if we end up in another relegation battle.. herbergeehh Posted July 17, 2004 Posted July 17, 2004 Friedel- Neill, Amo, Matteo, Gray Emerton, Ferguson, Thommo/Tugay, De Pedro Stead, Dickov Enckelman good backup for Brad Short will push for a place, and hopefully Jay aswell - plus Vratti. Reid, Flitty, Douglas and perhaps Donnelly backups in midfield Gally and Jansen backups up front, and obviously any new striker that might come in. Jemal aswell perhaps?
chris Posted July 17, 2004 Posted July 17, 2004 Friedel Neill Amo Matteo Gray Tommo Flitty Ferguson De Pedro Stead Jansen (hopefully) Obviously hoping that Jansen has a good pre season, otherwise start with Dickov
joey_big_nose Posted July 17, 2004 Posted July 17, 2004 (edited) Well I would like to see: Stead Dickov De Pedro Ferguson Butt Thompson Gray Matteo Amoruso Emerton Friedel Ferguson and Butt (our next signing, wishful thinking?) would hold a tight midfield together allowing the fullbacks to get well forward. Both Emerton and Gray could be devastating on the overlap while Thommo and De Pedros preference for playing deep wide roles would allow them the cover. I know, you will say that Emerton cant defend for toffee and all that, but I personally think he would do a good job there. Gallagher, Tugay and Jansen all to get a good crack as the regular substitutes. And can I say it is not a bad side at all either..... Edited July 17, 2004 by joey_big_nose
Presty On Tour Posted July 18, 2004 Posted July 18, 2004 friedel neil amo matteo gresko emerton flitty fergy de pedro jansen stead or wot about all out attack?? friedel amo Tugay flitty fersuson emerton thomo de pedro jansen gallagher stead c'mon matty, i know u still have the skill, technique and the class n all, prove me right!!
Presty On Tour Posted July 18, 2004 Posted July 18, 2004 wa sa hard choice between gresko and gray but gresko's heart and effort is immense, plus he scored a few last year and is better going forward.
waggy Posted July 18, 2004 Posted July 18, 2004 this is the thread,to all you clowns who have put dikov before gallagher, have you seen the little runt play

Blueboy Downunder Posted July 18, 2004 Posted July 18, 2004 bradley lucas amo matteo gray thommo fergy tuges de pedro stead gally bench: emerton, dickov, jansen, encklemann, short the subs bench will change from game to game, but i think the first 11 should be as above without many changes and only allowing for them if someone gets injured.
neophox Posted July 18, 2004 Posted July 18, 2004 friedel Neill, Matteo, Amoruso, Gray Thompson, Fergy, De Pedro Emerton Stead Trialist Subs: Dickov, Gally, Tugay, Enckelman, McEvely or Johansson

Tris Posted July 18, 2004 Posted July 18, 2004 Stead Trialist Subs: Dickov, Gally Oh FFS. No, really. You don't even know his ###### name and you put him before Dickov AND Gallagher
AllRoverAsia Posted July 18, 2004 Posted July 18, 2004 From the proposed line ups - and assuming we get rid of Cole (sadly - but his attitude is wrong - he should know he can't win a head to head with GS) and Yorke (what a complete waste of talent the dipstick) - we actually have a decent squad which will give the younger ones a chance to show what they can do. Wouldn't mind Butt in midfield though.
