benhben Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 With a now seemingly unbreakable defense and with the imminant arrival of new striking power, Bellamy has been linked again today, i cant see us loosing many games next season. It may be overoptimistic but we could be the next Everton, they were in our position last season. I wonder what the odds would be on us finishing top 10 or even to 8ish next term. It wouldnt be a bad shout for a bet in my opinion.
PABBY Posted May 15, 2005 Posted May 15, 2005 Here's the final Premiership table:- 1 Chelsea 2 Arsenal 3 Man Utd 4 Everton 5 Liverpool 6 Bolton 7 Middlesbrough 8 Man City 9 Tottenham 10 Aston Villa 11 Charlton 12 Birmingham 13 Fulham 14 Newcastle 15 Blackburn 16 Portsmouth 17 West Brom 18 Crystal Palace 19 Norwich 20 Southampton and here's my prediction at the start of the season:- 1. T4E Posted May 15, 2005 Posted May 15, 2005 1. Arsenal 2. Chelsea 3. Manchester United 4. Newcastle 5. Liverpool 6. Tottenham 7. Aston Villa 8. Birmingham 9. Charlton 10. Middlesborough 11. Blackburn 12. Manchester City 13. Portsmouth 14. Fulham 15. Everton 16. Bolton 17. West Brom 18. Southampton 19. Crystal Palace 20. Norwich Pretty impressive - you were the only person to correctly predict the relegated teams, although not in the right order.
Philly Rover ® Posted May 15, 2005 Author Posted May 15, 2005 Thanks T4E... saved me from looking like an arrogant ass by bragging about it myself. I started figuring out who had the closest table based on the little competition I, um, decreed at the beginning of the season. It'll take a little while to tabulate it all but I hope to have it done sometime tomorrow night.* *Alright, I admit that I'm bored having finished school for the year and I have absolutely FA to do.
LeChuck Posted May 16, 2005 Posted May 16, 2005 1. Arsenal 2. Manchester United 3. Chelsea 4. Newcastle 5. Liverpool 6. Aston Villa 7. Middlesbrough 8. Birmingham City 9. Charlton Athletic 10. Tottenham Hotspur 11. Fulham 12. Southampton 13. Portsmouth 14. Manchester City 15. Blackburn Rovers 16. West Bromwich Albion 17. Everton 18. Crystal Palace 19. Bolton Wanderers 20. Norwich City Quite happy with mine...go ours spot on and 2/3 for relegation. Bolton, Everton and Newcastle were way off but the rest wasn't too bad.
neekoy Posted May 16, 2005 Posted May 16, 2005 I was a little off 1. Chelsea 2. Arsenal 3. Liverpool 4. Middlesborough 5. Manchester United 6. Aston Villa 7. Blackburn 8. Birmingham 9. Newcastle 10. Charlton 11. Everton 12. Bolton 13. Fulham 14. Portsmouth 15. Tottenham 16. Southampton 17. Crystal Palace 18. Manchester City 19. West Brom 20. Norwich I obviously suck
Philly Rover ® Posted May 16, 2005 Author Posted May 16, 2005 That seemed to be the case with pretty much everyone, LeChuck. No one came even close to getting those three right, whilst Man City and Southampton threw most people off as well. Some of the things we thought at the beginning of the season seem so stupid now... as BRFC4EVA said, it really is a funny old game. Some of the funnier predictions--from hindsight of course--from this thread (I'm not picking on you, guys): "An awful lot will depend on the fitness of a few key players, one of those being De Pedro." --Ossydave "3. Newcastle (after they pick up Beattie in January)" --rebelzero "Everton, pompey and bolton's squads look pretty thin and i think that once injuries hit they will suffer and finish low mid table." --tcj_jones "As for the drop - think this is the season we say goodbye to the Toffees as Norwich nick a draw at Fulham and Everton lose at Bolton on the last day of the Season." --CAPT KAYOS "Still, the season we finished 6th most goals came from midfield. And I can see de Pedro, Ferguson, Thommo, Amo and even Neill contributing." --Lathund As for the final results of the little competition I announced (check earlier on the thread for an explanation)... ...I'm useless at these things but here's my effort, for what it's worth... philipl Posted May 16, 2005 Posted May 16, 2005 Yes, well done Philly and congratulations to Scotty. I went back to my predictions and thought you had scored my prediction's accuracy wrongly when I looked at the top half- then I saw what I had predicted at the bottom end
roversmum Posted May 16, 2005 Posted May 16, 2005 Thanks guys. Just goes to show, though, how unpredictable things can turn out to be, and I guess is one of the reasons we love football! Any chance of a weekly 'guess the score' competition of some kind for next season?

tcj_jones Posted May 16, 2005 Posted May 16, 2005 (edited) "Everton, pompey and bolton's squads look pretty thin and i think that once injuries hit they will suffer and finish low mid table." --tcj_jones Well, I was kind of right about Pompey, although that was largely down to their players leaving as opposed to becoming injured. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. I'll be having a look for your predictions as well, Philly EDIT: dam, just saw you predicted table... 25. tcj_jones (64 points) Well out of 44 that isn't too bad - almost half way, in fact. Shocks for this season are Bolton, Everton and Newcastle who I thought would fare considerably different. Edited May 16, 2005 by tcj_jones
jobo380 Posted May 16, 2005 Posted May 16, 2005 As for 2004-2005 predictions, who'd u think will be manager of the year its getting announced tonight.............my bet is david moyes
Parasyte Posted May 16, 2005 Posted May 16, 2005 42. Parasyte (85 points) What the deuce? How can this be, I'm usually right on FM2005? Seriously, thats a crap load of points to have... I'm not American, but I demand a recount
Philly Rover ® Posted May 16, 2005 Author Posted May 16, 2005 Hey...what happened to mine? Errr, not sure FLB... I must have missed it when I counted up, sorry! When I figured your table out, it totalled 57 points--good enough for twelfth place. Well done, though I'm the first to admit that a lot of it was crap luck! And Parasyte, I did yours again and it turned out the same... it seemed a little high to me too, but at least there's nowhere to go but up for next year huh? I forgot to mention in the original post that Soccernet's predictions would have totalled them 50 points--better than the majority of us but no match for our Scotty, who I've officially dubbed our new Wizard of Table Predicting ©. In fact, 50 points wasn't even good enough to beat bob fleming for crying out loud--and everyone knows that he has no clue what he's talking about.
bob fleming Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 In fact, 50 points wasn't even good enough to beat bob fleming for crying out loud--and everyone knows that he has no clue what he's talking about. I laugh in the face of Soccernet. Thanks Philly. I had no chance beating Scotty though. I've heard that he has a room with all the stats of all the Premier League clubs covering each wall, every July he locks himself away in this room and goes into some sort of trance like state, he doesn't sleep, he just stares at the squads, analysing in minute detail the pros and cons of each player (age, previous injuries / hair cuts), manager and team - (a bit like the goalkeeping player manager in Dream Team - in fact exactly like him - but even weirder) he even looks at their horoscopes as well, nothing but nothing, is left to chance. At the end of July he then puts all the team names in a bag and pulls them out one at a time - first team out wins the league. As I said - no chance - the man's an absolute genius.
