AllRoverAsia Posted September 1, 2004 Posted September 1, 2004 (edited) 31st August 2004 - A truly great day in the history of Rovers. Yorke signs for Brum - official Brum site! RIP - gone and forgotten. OK he will probably score when we play Brum but that's the price you pay to get shut of him! Their site says ''for a substantial but undisclosed fee'' - if we got money for him even better! Edited September 1, 2004 by AllRoverAsia

OK he will probably score when we play Brum but that's the price you pay to get shut of him! Their site says ''for a substantial but undisclosed fee'' - if we got money for him even better! Link to the above (registration required) l: brfcs04 p: supporters EXCLUSIVE - BLUES SNAP UP YORKE Blues have just completed the signing of Blackburn striker Dwight Yorke for a substantial but undisclosed fee. The 32-year-old has signed a one year deal with a further year's option. The deal was completed with just minutes to spare before last night's midnight transfer deadline and came despite stiff competition from a number of other clubs, including Scootish giants, Celtic. The Trinidad and Tobago international said: "I'm relishing the opportunity to continue my Premiership career with a progressive club like Birmingham City. "I greatly admire what Steve Bruce has achieved in his time at Birmingham and I believe it is a club which is going places and I very much look forward to being part of it." Yorke is a natural goalscorer with a wealth of Premiership experience. He began his career at Villa Park as an untried teenager in 1989, before making the big time in 1998 when he joined Manchester United in a £12m deal. During his time at Old Trafford he formed a lethal attacking partnership with Andy Cole, which saw United win the treble in 1999. After four successful years at United, he made the short move to Blackburn, where he remained until making the switch to St. Andrew's last night. YES! FINALLY!
samtheozzy Posted September 1, 2004 Posted September 1, 2004 (edited) During his time at Old Trafford he formed a lethal attacking partnership with Andy Cole, which saw United win the treble in 1999. I wonder how long he can trade on a couple of good seasons nearly 5 years ago . In the tradition of shameful joy i would like to present the following quotes from the official Blues message board (note i've ignored the ones that are happy about the signing ) Excuse me what is good about signing an ex villa has been. If hes not good enough for Blackburn hes certainly not good enough for us. This is a joke signing. He said in papers 2 months ago that he would walk back to villa to sign for them(but they didn't need or want him), what does that tell you about the guy. I can here the villa fans laughing now. I can only hope the transfer deadline passed and we left it too late. why did we sign him for, im yeah we needed another striker but hes past it now. i hope he proves me wrong ffs he cant get into blacbrns team is bruce getting a discount from sourness for buying his cast offs that login and password works on the blues boards if you are interested. I wanted to see what the supporters had to say...bizarrely most of them are quite happy as, with Forssel out, Birmingham are *really* short of strikers. Although as soon as i joined the board i got a message from a Blues fan asking me to post on what a crap signing Yorke is so they are definitiely divided. I would also like to add the following pearl about David Dunn as it sounds so very familiar: accept Dunny's sickness record aint good-but as a footballer-unbelievably skillfull-lets hope he sorts the dodgy hamstrings out....could be magnificent for us.... USABlue Posted September 1, 2004 Posted September 1, 2004 I am one happy camper now. Oh happy happy joy joy. Now we can see some effort from the WHOLE team. (Providing MGP learns how to stick a foot in)
USABlue Posted September 1, 2004 Posted September 1, 2004 Gally will now have to be given a chance, despite Souey's obvious dislike for him. Obviously. Jim, how can you say Dickov is too old at 31 ? Oh wait it's because you're a moaning git. Should players just be dragged out and kneecapped on their 30th birthday? Anyway, ta ta Yorkie. Someone remember to lock the door after him. Dickov too old but Cole is a top class striker jim? Bloody hell in your incessant obsession with dogging Souness you can't even keep it consistant. BTW according to you jim Cole was no good when he was here, why do all our players get better to you once Souness let's them leave (ecept Yorkie who you loved when he got here) The deep mental scars you suffered cos our Graeme ignored your kid need to be healed with some SERIOUS counselling.
philipl Posted September 1, 2004 Posted September 1, 2004 The BBC report Yorke's move to Birmingham City. Hopefully, Birmingham were forced to pay a premium to the Rovers to hijack the move to Celtic.
Cocker Posted September 1, 2004 Posted September 1, 2004 Went to bed last night thinkng that we have signed Bothroyd and was a little upset because I have never heard of him and thought that was the end of our transfer dealings but oh no, I wake up this morning and find that Yorke has gone and its ACE, I just cant stop smiling. Thanks for nothing Dwight you wont be missed.
bob fleming Posted September 1, 2004 Posted September 1, 2004 Tremendous news. I'm very happy indeed. One thing - in the two years that he's been at Rovers what has he done to convince anyone to buy him? What has Steve Bruce seen in him to suggest that he should give him a contract? Sorry but I've just not seen it myself. Then again I sit on my arse in an office all day and Steve Bruce is a Professional Football Manager. He only had to ask me (I'd have lied BTW). Like I care Nice one Steve
Hughesy Posted September 1, 2004 Posted September 1, 2004 "substantial but undisclosed fee" Anyone heard anything about how much?
grizfoot Posted September 1, 2004 Posted September 1, 2004 (edited) 31st August 2004 - Yorke is a natural goalscorer you must be joking, Everyone reckons Steve Bruce is a good manager but that's another bad signing. Next time we want to get rid of another players just give Brucey a ring I Imagine the fee would be around 500k but i'm no expert Edited September 1, 2004 by grizfoot
roversmum Posted September 1, 2004 Posted September 1, 2004 (edited) (BBC) "We made a fantastic offer but the lure of the Premiership was too much and Dwight has chosen to go to Birmingham City for football reasons," said a Celtic statement. Lure of the Premiership? Ha! Probably some nightclubs in Brum he and Dunny haven't tried and it's closer to those in London too. Very strange signing in my opinion. Wonder what Stevie Bruce thinks he can get out of Dwight that we can't? The 'rejuvenated' Dwight didn't last long at Rovers; things must have been ongoing on Saturday judging from his scintilating performance on Saturday. Did anyone notice - going back to the MU match - on tv as they panned in to the MU team arriving in their dressing room, our Dwighty rushing forward to greet them, and dodging off a bit sharpish when he noticed that he was on camera? SuperStella Posted September 1, 2004 Posted September 1, 2004 Bruce has bought some sh!t off us, if that @#/? starts running round like an athlete i`ll be well mad, can`t imagine b/ham fans would welcome him with open arms.
Ste B Posted September 1, 2004 Author Posted September 1, 2004 , if that @#/? starts running round like an athlete More chance of me running like a bloody athlete. Ie none.
Manchester Blue Posted September 1, 2004 Posted September 1, 2004 I wonder if they will be singing some of their previous songs about him. Mainly centred on his son and his lack of eyesight.
EwoodDawn Posted September 1, 2004 Posted September 1, 2004 Altogether now, "Zippedeedoodah, zippedee-ey. My oh my what a wonderful day! Plenty of sunshine coming my way. Zippedeedoodah, zippedee-ey!"

salothsar Posted September 1, 2004 Posted September 1, 2004 Fully expect him to run a round endlessly and do an excellent impersonation of chicken minus head for about 30 minutes, score 2 goals, grin inanely for a while and then retire back into his lazy torpor. When this happens can't wait to hear what the Brum fans say.
