Cheshireblue Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 I was passing an idle 5 minutes on the Sky website, and MArtin Tyler has posted the all time points table for Premiership sides since it's inception in 1992. There are 38 teams in it, and Rovers finish 9th overall, ahead of both Middlesborough and Southampton, neither of which have ever missed a season in there! ALL-TIME PREMIERSHIP POINTS TABLE POS TEAM PLD PTS 1 MAN UTD 474 992 2 ARSENAL 474 879 3 LIVERPOOL 473 798 4 CHELSEA 474 758 5 NEWCASTLE 432 692 6 LEEDS 468 692 7 ASTON VILLA 474 687 8 TOTTENHAM 474 621 9 BLACKBURN 398 595 10 EVERTON 474 579 11 SOTON 474 559 12 WEST HAM 388 500 13 BORO 352 423 14 COVENTRY 354 409 15 SHEFF WED 316 392 16 WIMBLEDON 316 391 17 LEICESTER 308 342 18 MAN CITY 284 322 19 DERBY 228 263 20 CHARLTON 196 242 21 N FOREST 198 239 22 IPSWICH 202 224 23 BOLTON 196 217 24 QPR 196 216 25 SUNDERLAND 190 214 26 NORWICH 132 172 27 FULHAM 120 149 28 C PALACE 128 128 30 SHEFF UTD 84 94 31 OLDHAM 84 89 32 BRADFORD 76 62 33 PORTSMOUTH 43 52 34 BARNSLEY 38 35 35 WOLVES 38 33 36 WEST BROM 44 30 37 SWINDON 42 30 38 WATFORD 38 24

SouthAussieRover Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 (edited) OMG Hughesy beat you to that on another thread. Plus Im sure Middlesborough were relegated. Edited September 21, 2004 by SouthAussieRover
American Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 And didn't even start a new thread, shock of all shocks. Think it shows a lot about the club that we are not only so high, but have played so many fewer matches. Either feast or famine.
Ossydave Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 (edited) Weren't Boro relegated (under Robson?) Everton have been there all along. Edited September 21, 2004 by Ossydave
Rovermatt Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 There are 38 teams in it, and Rovers finish 9th overall, ahead of both Middlesborough and Southampton, neither of which have ever missed a season in there! Middlesbrough were relegated.
Ben-2000 Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 I can't remember Watford ever being in the Premier League. When was that?
Tom Pringle Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 Just to keep up with it. Boro were relegated. As for Watford, wasn't it under Taylor? Play-off win

B.R.F.C Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 I can't remember Watford ever being in the Premier League. When was that? Heidar Helgason signed etc under Graham Taylor, had an awful year whilst in the Prem as far as I remember.
Cheshireblue Posted September 21, 2004 Author Posted September 21, 2004 So would I be right in thinking that Boro got relegated?
tchocky Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 All you have to do is look at the number of games, you can see that Boro must have missed about 3 seasons since the Premier League started. We've missed two, and if we hadn't we might easily have been 5th (50pts in both seasons). Its nice reading anyway. I can't see us dropping down that table either, for a long time (unless we get relegated again). Chances are we will move up, now that Leeds are down and Souness is in charge of Newcastle! Would love to see a similar table spanning the history of the football league.
jim mk2 Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 (edited) Middlesbrough have been relegated from the Premier League twice. They were founder members of the league but went down in its debut season, 1992-3, and were relegated again in 1996-97, the same season in which they also reached the League Cup final and the FA Cup Final (losing both to Leicester and Chelsea respectively)! Maverick Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 ALL-TIME PREMIERSHIP POINTS TABLE POS TEAM PLD PTS 1 MAN UTD 474 992 2 ARSENAL 474 879 3 LIVERPOOL 473 798 4 CHELSEA 474 758 How is it possible that Liverpool have played one less game then the other teams that have been in the premiership since 92 ??
American Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 Because they've played one less match this season.
Alan75 Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 Liverpool and Portsmouth have only played 5 games this season whilst the rest have played 6.
BMan Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 So would I be right in thinking that Boro got relegated? If memory serves, Boro were relegated the same season they forfeited 3 points to Rovers for having 80% of the squad sick with flu. I believe they lost out on staying up by 2 points. Ouch
Tris Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 points per game table looks like this : in [] is position in total points table 1. Man Utd 2.09 [1] 2. Arse 1.85 [2] 3. Liverpool 1.69 [3] 4. Newcastle 1.602 [5] 5. Chelsea 1.599 [4] 6. ROVERS 1.49 [9] 7. Leeds 1.48 [6] 8. Villa 1.45 [7] 9. Spurs 1.31 [8] 10. Norwich 1.30 [26]
neekoy Posted September 22, 2004 Posted September 22, 2004 Would love to see a similar table spanning the history of the football league. Rank Entity Liverpool Manchester United Arsenal Aston Villa Leeds United Everton Huddersfield Town Sunderland Wolverhampton Wanderers Ipswich Town Newcastle United Sheffield Wednesday Burnley Preston North End Brentford Tottenham Hotspur Derby County Blackburn Rovers Manchester City Swansea City Nottingham Forest Portsmouth Bolton Wanderers Chelsea West Bromwich Albion Blackpool Oldham Athletic Sheffield United Queen's Park Rangers Charlton Athletic Watford Accrington Bury Wimbledon Cardiff City Bristol City Southampton Leicester City Norwich City West Ham United Middlesbrough Notts County Bradford City Stoke City Crystal Palace Luton Town Grimsby Town Bradford Park Avenue Coventry City Birmingham City Fulham Barnsley Brighton & Hove Albion Carlisle United Darwen Glossop North End Leyton Orient Millwall Northampton Oxford United Swindon Town
philipl Posted September 22, 2004 Posted September 22, 2004 Where did you get that from Neekoy? It is very different from the lists I have sen previously.
neekoy Posted September 22, 2004 Posted September 22, 2004 Football History You can search every stat by rankings. The one I used for that list was a points table for each appearance made in the old first division or premiership table at the end of each year i.e for every first place 12 points is awarded, second 9 points and so on Tournament 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 English League (1889-2004) 12 9 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 The first column refers to how many points a team receives for winning a tournament, the second for second place, the third for losing in the semi-finals or finishing 3rd in a league, the 4th for losing in the quarter-finals, etc. This was based of top flight football, you can also filter by euro victories, cup wins, goals scored blah blah blah If you do it by all club competitions it comes out like this Liverpool Manchester United Arsenal Aston Villa Everton Tottenham Hotspur Newcastle United Leeds United Sunderland Wolverhampton Wanderers Chelsea Manchester City Nottingham Forest Sheffield Wednesday Blackburn Rovers Derby County West Bromwich Albion Bolton Wanderers Burnley Preston North End Sheffield United Huddersfield Town Ipswich Town West Ham United Portsmouth Blackpool Leicester City Southampton Middlesbrough Bury Charlton Athletic Birmingham City The Wanderers Stoke City Queen's Park Rangers Notts County Cardiff City Old Etonians Wimbledon Oxford University Royal Engineers Norwich City Oldham Athletic Coventry City Bradford City Bristol City Watford Brentford Barnsley Clapham Rovers Crystal Palace Luton Town Blackburn Olympic Old Carthusians Queen's Park Glasgow Accrington Fulham Grimsby Town Brighton & Hove Albion Millwall Swansea City Bradford Park Avenue Carlisle United Darwen
AndyR Posted September 22, 2004 Posted September 22, 2004 This is also quite a good site for football records etc, and this table shows the info in a slighly different order http://www.the-english-football-archive.co...lub_records.htm
Cheshireblue Posted September 22, 2004 Author Posted September 22, 2004 So are we all saying that Boro got relegated then?
tchocky Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 Hey look, we've gone up a place Everton hot on our trail though. Other than them no real threats. Pretty similar to my league table prediction actually.
Alex Rover Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 Hey look, we've gone up a place Everton hot on our trail though. Other than them no real threats. Pretty similar to my league table prediction actually.Yet Everton have played 2 more seasons in the Prem than us which makes it even more impressive.
