They say that there’s no such thing as a free lunch and the mere existence of this article proves it! The price for the freebie was to write a review of the Ewood Lounge Experience* and so here we are !
Last Saturday, I was fortunate enough to attend the Blackburn vs Sheffield United game in the premiere lounge, courtesy of a very generous offer from fan & fellow BRFCS podcaster, Katharine McNamara.
The experience throughout the day was excellent. The staff were lovely, the food was excellent and the vibe on a whole, was genuinely one to remember. Before the game we were welcomed with a glass of Prosecco (non-alcoholic was available). Whilst eating food, we had a chat with Howard Webb (former ref and now head of PGMOL), who mentioned he was here to watch the refs as they are looking at introducing VAR into the league (not a fan myself) and wanting more transparency from the refs. We also had a chat with former player Martin “Tiny” Taylor who was invited along to watch the game as Rovers’ special guest.
He regaled us with his experience of playing in the blue and white halves and also expressed his feelings for Sammie Szmodics (Spoiler: he really likes him..!)
About 10 minutes before kick off, we headed up to our padded seats, which were the comfiest I have ever sat in at Ewood, providing an outstanding view of the pitch and the dugout…
The atmosphere at the game, as well as the performance, was immense. At half time, we headed back to our table for further refreshments before heading back up for the second half. At the end of the game, we watched the MOTM interview with Harry Pickering, who was really insightful about what JDT’s message was after the game.
Overall, it was an incredible experience and one I would do all over again. I would recommend anyone who gets the opportunity to be as fortunate as I was, to watch a game in a box.
Spoil yourself…you won’t regret it!
