But who should / could Rovers be looking at?

Championship proven, experienced players that Rovers could look at.

JDT's side needs players who are proven at a Championship level and have performed consistently in this division. Players who are experienced and established in the Championship that would be considered realistic targets for Rovers are hard to come by. But there are a few names who will be available in the summer for free or for affordable fees albeit some may be a little ambitious but they are not all completely unreasonable.

Teemu Pukki is the first name on the list and a player that will be in demand in summer, given that Norwich have decided to let him leave upon the expiry of his contract. Pukki is very well known across English football having spent five seasons with Norwich, scoring double figures in every season at the club, including two premier league campaigns. The 33 year-old Finnish forward is a player who knows how to take his chances, and often strikes the ball early with precision and power. His anticipation and effective movement is what sets him apart from the rest. Something that many Rovers fans would say the side has lacked this season. Although this season hasn't been his best in England, he has still scored more goals than the vast majority of the Rovers squad. With Diaz being the only player in Rovers ranks to net more. Albeit an ambitious target, he is someone that would be a very effective addition.

The second player I think Rovers should take a look at is Jerry Yates. The Doncaster born Blackpool forward has had a fairly impressive campaign despite his side being relegated. Although he is by no means as prolific and well-known as Teemu Pukki, Yates is a player who would prove a useful addition to JDT's squad. His game consists of precise finishing, fast movement trickery and composure in front of goal. He knows how to move the ball and run at / past defenders. He is also a penalty specialist and with the departure of Rovers current taker, Diaz, accurate penalties is perhaps something that the recruitment team may look for in a forward.

Another player that would suit a move to Ewood is soon to be out of contract midfielder Oliver Norwood. It is still unclear whether the former Northern Irish international will be staying at Bramall Lane, he is a player that would be a worthy addition to Tomasson's side. The experienced midfielder would add top end championship experience to the side, having achieved promotion from the second tier twice with the Blades, including the current season. He is a composed midfielder who knows how to pick a pass. Another ambitious target, but on a free transfer, he is someone that would again add something to the squad.

A player Rovers have already been linked with regarding a potential move in summer is experienced fullback Joe Bryan. He would provide good competition for Harry Pickering, while again adding experience to the squad. It's reported Rovers are one of several teams looking at the Englishman, with the intention of making a move. He has spent a large portion of his career in the second tier of English football, with Bristol City, where he played over 200 games as well as experiencing promotion to the Premier League with Fulham, where he is currently contracted, (albeit out on loan at OGC Nice). He would certainly be a coup for Rovers, should they be able to pick him up on a free, it would be a very good piece of business and one that could prove to be a very useful addition.

Another man that I think would be a worthy addition to Rovers ranks is Lucas João. The Portuguese striker is of course no stranger to Ewood, having spent a short time on loan with Rovers, in the January of 2017. Scoring three in 13 appearances for Mowbray's Rovers side, his efforts were in vain in a unsuccessful survival pursuit. His contract with Reading is up in summer, and with relegation for the Royals, it's unlikely that he will  stay at the club. His best Championship campaign was in the 2020/21 season where he netted 19 goals. He has been playing in the second tier since 2015, and knows how to find the back of the net. He is a tall and strong frontman who packs a powerful strike. He knows how to use his stature effectively to keep defenders from claiming the ball, while he prepares an effort on goal.
