Could Rovers Borrow Next Season’s Stars?

The Loan market, who out there could be the next Rovers loan star?

Every season it seems there are at least one or two loan additions to the Rovers squad that end up playing an influential role in the set up. With this season's instalment of loanees maybe not hitting the heights that many Rovers fans would have hoped and the team needed. Tyler Morton and Sorba Thomas have however played a fair few games since arriving at Ewood in summer and January respectively.

A delve into the Premier League 2 shows you that there are many young stars in the set ups of the top clubs in the country that are ready for first team action. With Rovers' established links with Liverpool when it comes to loaning youth players it would be no surprise if there was another addition to the growing list of Liverpool loanees. One player in the Reds ranks that may be of interest to Rovers is striker Layton Stewart. The Liverpool born striker had scored 11 goals in 16 appearances prior to the Reds season finale against Crystal Palace. Fine scoring form that may well warrant a senior squad loan further down the English footballing pyramid. It wouldn't be surprising if he was to become the next name on the list of loanees from the premier league giants.

Another Premier League 2 superstar that will no doubt be on the radar for a whole host of clubs is the division's top scorer Carlos Borges. The 19 year-old Portuguese left-winger has set the league a light firing 20 goals home in 23 of Manchester City’s 25 fixtures so far this season. He also scored four goals across City’s three games in the Papa John's Trophy campaign, including a hat-trick against Derby County in a 3-1 victory. He has been pictured in first team training with Guardiola's side this season, so his near future may lie at the Etihad, but if a loan move is on the horizon for the academy superstar, he's definitely a name Rovers should be looking at.

Chelsea are a club who often have a host of players out on loan, and a player who is out on loan in the Championship at the moment is Italian midfielder Cesare Casadei. The 20 year-old maestro has spent the second half of the season at relegated Reading. Making 14 appearances for the Royals. Despite the side being relegated to the third tier of English football, he still managed to make an impact. He joined Chelsea from Inter Milan in 2022 and he has already scored in front of the Rovers faithful, contributing the only goal of his loan spell at Reading in their 2-1 loss to Rovers at Ewood. With the imminent end of Tyler Morton's loan, there is likely to be a search for a central midfielder by the Rovers recruitment team. After being a shining light in a struggling side it would be very interesting to see what he could accomplish in a side hopefully pushing up the other end of the table.

Another player who is shining out on loan is Crystal Palace's Rak-Sakyi who has shown English football what he is all about during his loan spell with Charlton Athletic. The 20 year-old is a fast, skilful composed winger with an eye for goal. He knows how to cause defences problems and often has an end product to his hard work, whether that be goals, efforts on goal or setting his teammates up with opportunities on goal. As shown by his double figure goals tally and near double figure assist tally too. He's often seen cutting in on his favoured left foot to strike on goal or when creating chances for his teammates. With a very successful season in the third tier, it's no question he'll be looking to make the step up to the Championship or beyond, and Rovers would be a great club for him to make that progression.

A player who previously pulled on the heart strings of the Rovers supporters is Jan Paul Van Hecke. Rovers fans know all about his abilities and composed ball playing style. The 22 year-old’s Brighton and Hove Albion contract is up in the summer and there will be plenty of suitors eying him up and Rovers should definitely be one of them. There's undoubtedly a very bright future ahead for the young Dutchman, but where the next chapter of his career lies is unknown. With the imminent departure of Daniel Ayala a void may need to be filled in the squad, and a young central defender would definitely fit the model of the Tomasson project.
