In 1989, a forty-year old Billy Joel was in the studio conversing with a twenty-one-year-old friend of Sean Lennon apparently, reminiscing about significant events in his life-time. From this, the seeds of “We Didn’t Start The Fire” were sown and the song was released in September, eventually reaching number seven in the UK charts.
Also in September 1989, but this time in Blackburn, a new football fanzine was launched called “4,000 Holes”. It is not known as to whether Billy Joel sent in contributions under a pseudonym.
Anyhow, inspired by these two events, it seemed opportune to celebrate the 100th issue of 4,000 Holes by creating a Rovers version of “We Didn’t Start The Fire”. So settle down, fire up the YouTube karaoke version and enjoy a good old sing-song and a reminisce simultaneously!
