Fixture: Rovers 2-1 Oxford United (5/5/18)
Highlights
Why Chosen
There are many games from this memorable campaign that I could have chosen, but a jubilant crowd of 27,600 fans inside Ewood is hard to ignore. Sure, the wins against Shrewsbury, Peterborough and Doncaster were of more significance and a cynic may have chosen Charlton away when the title looked to be there for the taking, but this was the icing on the cake for Rovers fans, back in the second tier at the first time of asking. 363 days after the heartache at Griffin Park.
Aftermath
The core of the promoted side would go on to compete admirably in the Championship the following season. This is still the highest attendance at Ewood since relegation from the Premier League.
Honourable Mentions
Bury 0-3 Rovers (18/11/17) – The start of Rovers’ six match winning run, which propelled them back into contention.
Doncaster 0-1 Rovers (24/4/18) – Promotion clinched at the Keepmoat Stadium with captain Mulgrew’s winning header.
Charlton 1-0 Rovers (28/4/18) – After the promotion, a much-changed side lost 1-0 at The Valley, ending any hopes of matching 1974/75 and clinching the third tier title.
