Day: 3/30

Season: 2021/22

Fixture: Bournemouth 0-2 Rovers – Championship – 11/12/21

Highlights

Why Chosen

After the humiliation of a 0-7 defeat at the hands of Fulham just weeks prior, Rovers went on a run of 9 wins in 11, the pinnacle coming with an impressive away performance against the then second-placed Cherries. Jan Paul van Hecke made some amends for his red card against Fulham with a bullet header. Only a Covid cancellation from Hull and a dogged Huddersfield Town defensive performance could stymie the Rovers progress in the festive period.

Aftermath

The gulf in class between the two sides in the reverse fixture showed how challenging the Championship can be. By May 2022, the in-form Cherries easily brushed Tony Mowbray’s men aside with a devastating display at Ewood, running out 0-3 winners thanks to Philip Billing and Dominic Solanke strikes. The fixture ended any playoff hopes and was to be the last Rovers home fixture in charge for Mowbray.
