A rare event was seen in Blackpool on Saturday afternoon when about 60 people wearing inflatable costumes marched along the promenade – and raised over £10,000 for charity!
Rovers supporter Jen Bellamy organized the crazy fundraiser for the Bone Cancer Research Trust after being diagnosed with primary bone cancer at the beginning of this year.
The tribe of inflatable friends set off from the Pleasure Beach Resort at 2pm and completed the walk at the Comedy Carpet in front of Blackpool Tower.
The march included polar bears, unicorns, pterodactyls, sharks, chickens, penguins, ostriches, koalas, eagles, spiders, rockets, clowns and astronauts – and caught the attention of everyone on the seafront.
Jen has always been popular personality on the Rovers scene, whether it be via her positive and potty-mouthed tweets, appearances on BBC Radio Lancashire, contributions to the 4,000 Holes fanzine or indeed being a guest on podcasts delivered by BRFCS.
Previous charity efforts include her creation of ‘Ginger Ninja’ pin badges in tribute to 2018/19 loan star Harrison Reed, with all proceeds being donated to Nerve Tumours UK at Reed’s request.
Jen is now recovering after successful treatment of her illness and is raising awareness for the BCRT, so that they can continue in their mission to both support those with primary bone cancer and fund research for kinder and more targeted treatments.
The fundraiser has incredibly exceeded the £10k mark over the weekend and you can add to the total by donating via the link below:
