Season: 2018/19
Fixture: Stoke City 2-3 Rovers (22/9/18)
Highlights
Why Chosen
The first season back in the Championship after promotion had high moments at the start and end, with plenty of despair in the middle. One of the standout performances of that season came at the bet365 Stadium against recently relegated Stoke. The former Premier League side had a team full of talent and should have completed a dramatic comeback, but for late drama including a missed penalty. Entertainment in spades. Rovers 0-3 up and cruising? Should have made it 0-4? Uh oh, I’ve seen this before….
Aftermath
Stoke are still a Championship side in a constant state of flux/turmoil. Saido Berahino’s career is all but over after leaving Jaipur based Rajasthan United just a couple of weeks back. Rovers managed to stay in playoff contention until the (first) February slide under Mowbray saw us pick up just 4 points from the 11 games between February and March before four wins on a trot ensured relegation worries were alleviated.
Honourable Mentions
Rovers 4-2 Sheffield Wednesday (1/12/2018) – A Danny Graham hat-trick beats the Owls.
Leeds United 3-2 Rovers (26/12/2018) – A 90th minute free kick sent the away end into ecstasy at Elland Road as Rovers lead 1-2 with seemingly, just seconds left… five minutes later, they lost 3-2.
Rovers 2-2 Reading (22/8/2019) – Two Mulgrew penalties earn Rovers a point, as the new advertising hoardings blinded the Ewood crowd.
