v Stoke (h) - Saturday 27th August 3pm
Neal replied to joey_big_nose's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Forgot to drop this in here as its somewhat relative to today's game and didn't know to post it here or as it's own thread. -
A genius footballer capable of playing much much higher than what he did. Although he maintains I was better, I'm not so sure 😂. Very different types of player to be honest. For some perspective, I've watched him play in centre midfield for Rovers veterans alongside Garner, Metcalfe, Keeley, Hendry and he was best player on the pitch. He and Stuart Metcalfe were good friends, hence why he played and indication of how high he should of played.

Last year my dad was diagnosed with Leukemia, he's as big a Rovers fan as you can meet. Long season ticket holder, been everywhere across the country, across Europe, was at Wembley for our promotion, at Anfield when we won the title, at Deepdale for promotion, at Cardiff for the league cup, at Doncaster aswell. Of course he's missed going to Ewood, especially with my 5 year old son who's started going regularly. Today he'll come back as the club have kindly put us in a box to watch today's game together at no added expense. This obviously keeps the risk down as we will be isolated from the crowds. I could have put this in the match thread but I wanted the club and those involved to get the credit it/they deserve for going out of their way to accommodate my dad and get him back to Ewood where he belongs. The main person to organise this was a lady called Christine, so special thanks to her. This is what football clubs are about, this what being a supporter is about. Hopefully they can pull out a good performance and result as the icing on the cake. Been a tough year but unimaginably tougher for him, things are looking promising and days like today are ones to savour and enjoy to the utmost. So... THANK YOU Rovers.

He's already signed just not announced. Reliably informed. -

Hyam and Caulker means no JPVH or SVDB. Seems as we're on the D list now. -

Dyche would be perfect for Sunderland. -

Just my opinion. We're a championship club who can't afford to buy a player the same quality as Brereton. Just think in a better side he would excell and further develop. -

Josh Bowler is the best and only adequate replacement for Diaz. Proven quality in this league, match winner, plays down the road, needs to be sold. Just get it done. -

Can't recall being this p*ssed off about rovers in some time. To watch that and discover Van Hecke is off elsewhere, absolutely furious. The early results have obviously masked some serious issues and now the club is going to be panicking now realising how much of a rebuild job needs to be done after trying to do it on the cheap with youngsters. We lack pace, creativity, bite and experience in midfield, a decent left back and 2 centre halves. To sign Morton and state that was all they were going to sign for our centre mid is absolutely astounding. We have way too many nicey nicey tip tapy players in there. Yesterday and Wednesday was embarrassing. They don't just need bodies in the door, they need proven quality and that f*ckin costs money, not more questionable signings like Sammie Szmodics. A massive remaining window for Greg Broughton here because if he gets this wrong the fans will really draw a line in the sand and assume certain things about him that he will struggle change. -

Pickering is absolutely awful. We really need some more leaders in the middle of the pitch else we're going to really struggle this season. -

I know the window isn't closed yet but at this stage it's been very poor. Some excellent business needs to be done but if we haven't done it after all this time I'm not expecting it to be done in less than 2 weeks. The only upside is we MIGHT be able to use our current league position to convince certain players to join. Very disappointing. -

Defence need sorting but we need more creativity going forward, yesterday's performance proves that and the XG also proves it. We need Josh Bowler and a centre forward. We also need another decent centre mid aswell, there's a serious lack of depth in there. Also, i don't think Szmodics improves us at all. When you make a signing, you have to be able to see what new qualities they bring to the team and so far I'm not seeing anything. -

https://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/sport/20668743.afc-bournemouth-reportedly-enter-race-sign-striker-brereton-diaz/ Bournemouth linked to Diaz. I think we can safely assume any team out of the top 6 is interested at this point. -

I think there's a promise that Ash gets the vacant first team defensive number if he signs a contract. Seems like the transfer window is pushing this one along. "if you sign a deal then you're in the first team but if you're leaving then we need to replace you with someone who wants to be here". That's how I read it. So he gets a first team spot and wages and we get his value. Everyone is happy then. Still, it's Lancs live. Still on the fence but it seems ballsy to come out with such an article in confidence. Fingers crossed. -
We called him Jack Walker We called him the king of the land On that bright summers day On the 14th of May Stood there with the cup in his hand. Miss you Uncle Jack.

He's not replaceable, we can't replace him with like for like quality, we all know that but we can look for other potential match winners that we can realistically buy. Josh Bowler is certainly one of them and would be a safe, solid investment. -

On Styles, it really is crunch time for him. Barnsley really have to sell in this next couple of weeks or risk losing him for pittance in January. Apparently Barnsley have to raise a certain amount of money this window and it seems they've been holding out for bigger bids on both him and Helik. Trouble is, I think a lot of clubs have moved on and signed other players at this stage. I can see us coming back in for both given our relations from the Brittain deal. They aren't in the driving seat for those negotiations at this point. -

Seems it would go to an exceptions panel if we were to make a move. Rovers really do keep things close to their chest these days. Have to say I'm impressed with the range of players we're inquiring about. Shows some real hard work and thought is going into it but we really need to see some results and support for JDT before the window closes. A couple of ambitious signings would really back up and boost this impressive start we've had. We need to take advantage of our current league position. -
Just seen this from Steve Bruce, absolutely delusional... "But the way the performance was, anybody neutral would have come away and thought how the hell have Blackburn won that. Football at times, that's why it's the game we love." Nah mate, you got absolutely outworked, out thought, we wanted more than your team, you didn't have any individual quality worthy of winning the game (despite your team costing a small fortune in fee's and wages). For the most part, we were more disciplined than you and we beat you with a completely make shift back 4... Oh and you didn't even deserve to score that raggy goal. Jog on. You looked ordinary. We made you look ordinary. Stop eating pies, you're going to explode.

😂 I think everyone needs to calm down a little bit. It's nice to see everyone so positive about our manager though but let's not forget we're only 2 games into the season. I'm seeing expectations starting to get pretty high. Anything could happen of course but we have a very young squad and lots of tough games to play. I'm taking it a game at a time and having no expectations at all. Loving everything I'm hearing and seeing so far.

Absolutely massive wages apparently at Reading. WBA have obviously matched or thereabouts. Would never have happened for us. -
I get the optimism, amazing start so far but I'm feeling a lot more conservative about this one. A point would be a good result and I do think we'll concede our first of the season. West Brom will be desperate to get their first 3 points and will ask questions of us. I would take a point, hopefully I'm still under estimating our young team and they prove me wrong again. 1-1 Diaz.
