[Archived] Villa 1 - 0 Rovers

Fulham were below us and they won. One positive to be taken from today is that it was the first away goal we have conceded since 13th November (v Man City). -

If you re-read my post I think you will find that I am one of the only people who has constantly stuck up for the drummers. I too don't care much about how the atmosphere at Ewood comes across on the TV, but its a sad fact that TV coverage is a major part of Premiership football. I don't have a Sky subscription, so I was only refering to the MOTD highlights. In my opinion, TV is the reason we are having this debate about atmosphere in the first place!! It is killing the game. -

We HAVE to win this one - for lots of reasons, but mainly because it will make life worse for Souness and the next decent team he is quickly destroying! (hope you don't get the impressions that I really hate him!!) The history book looks good for us, Newcastle have never won at Ewood in the Premiership and have only taken 3 points from the 9 matches there. Just hope the lads are as fired up for this one as I am!! -
Apparently there are going to be stories in the papers tomorrow about Robbie Keane moving to a club in the north-west. I can't see why he'd want to come to Rovers or how we'd afford him - that's if of course it is us!

You might be able to here yourselves in Block N01 and think you are making a lot of noise, but the acoustics aren't great at Ewood and we can hardly hear you from the Riverside. The drums cames over well on the TV highlights and it made it sound like we were making a lot of noise throught the match. What we desperately need at Ewood is some atmosphere and noise. Then maybe people will feel more like they have been entertained, they will want to come back, etc.... I have been sat next to Bill on a frezze cold night at Barnsley - I know how annoying it can be! The sad fact is that most people, certainly most in the Riverside, aren't going to join in with any chants (and to be honest, there aren't many the kids can join in with!!). But you do get families and old grannies clapping along to the drum. The sound of 17,000 people clapping along with a drum comes across on TV, and to the players on the pitch, more than 100 lads singing about the wings of an eagle. -

I don't think Mo Camara needs to ask John Barnes, et al. about suffering racial abuse. According to a Burnley fan at my work Camara experienced exactly what you decribed (though perhaps not from as many people) when he was playing for Burnley at Millwall a few years ago. I think the media must take some responsibility for their reaction to what happened in Spain. They have effectively glamourised what happened by constantly playing clips of the Spainish fans. NO NEED! They can talk about what happened without playing the audio. I don't want to hear it and I'm sure the 'kids' that are going around copying it now only do so because they've seen it on TV since, and not during the match itself.

I still very much doubt that it was an employee of the club. Anyway, has TP got on the blower to Colin Hendry yet? Perfect job for him!

It definately was not a Roma scarf. I'm not 100% sure, but it looked like Dukla Prague to me. (That reminds me, time to write a list for Santa....)

Excellent idea!! Just booked my flight! £64.90 in total (£14 each way plus taxes) which is what it would have cost me to drive down and stay over somewhere Friday night. I'm so excited! Just hope there are some tickets for the match left!

From what I have heard about the situation, as sad as it is, I am inclined to believe what Hughes said about there no longer being a suitable role for Parkes at the club. The club has been loyal to players and staff in the past, but unfortunately we need to run as a business now and that involves removing unnecessary costs. Please don't take that the wrong way, because I'd love to see Parkes remain involved in any way. I think the fact that he has been involved with the senior team for such a long time makes it difficult to offer him another position within the club, especially away from the playing side. Plus he may have seen it as more of an insult to offer him something less 'important' to the club. I am furious about how the story came out and I hope JW has some answers for the Fans Forum on Monday regarding that.

I wouldn't be so sure about that mate. Take it from me, designer labels, especially Burberry, instant turn off! So all designer labels are a turn off? Armani, D&G, Paul Smith?? Yes! I wouldn't look twice at a lad dressed head to foot in designer labels. I'd rather have a real man than a nancy boy!

That has been going on for a little while and it has affected Rovers a few times in the past. Though I think the ticket office now seem to have a pretty good idea of what demand there will be for each match. I think the controls on away ticket prices need to me looked at again. Man U fans were charged £45 for a seat by Birmingham for a Tuesday night match earlier this season! -

Felt much more confident about this game after yesterday - until SG194 reminded me that we don't have a great record at Carrow Road! Its always been one of our 'bogey grounds'. I'm not going to make a prediction. I'll just cross my fingers, toes, eyes, legs, and anything else I can, and hope we get a win. (Obviously I will have to uncross them at about 7.30am on Saturday when I get behind the wheel for the long drive to East Anglia!) -

Stewarding and the club/fan relationship
Kiwiwannabe replied to Mike Graham's topic in Messageboard Gold
I am worried about what might happen against Liverpool. The whole of the Darwen End will be standing throughout the match and there will be plenty Liverpool fans in all the home areas. -

That doesn't totally suprise me. This matter has been mentioned on several occasions at meetings when John Newsham was present. I know many fans have communicated their concerns to the club and they have known about this issue for a long time. The attitude I have always found is that they will not listen to us because, as long as Rovers fans stand up, we are in the wrong. Early in the match today you could count the number of Rovers fans in the BBE standing on your hands, while nearly half of the Boro fans stood for the whole match! What happened today was unpleasant - I hope it is a wake-up call for the club to act. -

Preston blue - perhaps it would be an idea to post it? If not - perhaps emailing it to John Newsham might help? Or you could bang your head into a brick wall? It might be more use I would be more than happy to take anyone's view/opinions/experiences regarding this matter to the next fans forum. That's providing there is another fans forum meeting! The club don't seem to be very keen to communicate with us at the minute. -

The club are going to have a serious issue on their hands if it continues as it is. They have to listen to the fans. I know it has been mentioned and numerous occasions, but they have to act this time and pretty quick. -
[Archived] Rovers 0 V 4 Middlesbrough review
Kiwiwannabe replied to Ozz's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
First match in a long time that I havent wanted to stay stay until the end (as always though, I did stay). That was embarassing and the only positive I can take out of it is that Tugay won't be playing against Liverpool! He is a complete idiot and I, as I've said before, it wouldn't bother me if he never plays in blue and white again. That is the second match he has cost us this season. I have no idea what happened to Amo! He was awsome first half, then awful in the second. Emerton should not play if its going to be a physical game. He look really good until the first tough tackle went in, then he just wasn't interested. And what the hell was he doing for their 4th?!?!?! I am still very concerned about up front. We don't have anyone who looks like even creating half chances, nevermind scoring. Dickov can hassle defenders, but he didn't look like he was ever going to score today. When we were down to 10 we were always going to have to play with one up front. The two main options we had, Dickov and Stead, have both played two international matches this week.... I think the performances of Fergusson, Reid and Neill are the only positives to be taken from a thorughly miserable day.
