I'm not sure that's entirely fair. There are attempts at getting forward but there's no one to hold the ball up so it keeps going to the opposition. Dolan gives it a lot of effort but due to his size has no chance with long balls. The likes of Gallagher and Vale aren't very good and since 2019 the previous manager seemed to develop a fetish for low scoring midfielders. Until Dack started playing regularly we had to rely on Brereton being on form. And it didn't just start when JDT arrived, it began January 2022 and left to rot by Waggott and co when something could have been done about it over three transfer windows (or four if you count the Summer before when we hadn't replaced Armstrong). Can anyone confirm Malmo's style during Tomasson's time there?

Do we have a right forward line? Dolan gives the most effort, Brereton was poor for large parts of tonights game but seemed more switched on. Dack wasn't great but I prefer the team with him than without him. Sorba is a handful for defenders which gives other players space. Gallagher just clumps around looking confused. Glad to see Vale has disappeared from match days. When Dack and Sorba went off we were noticeably poorer for it, again. So they must feature.

No, he said that we were spending more than other teams. Newcastle had a more expensive defender than our entire back four. Liverpool had a more expensive defence. Leeds had a more expensive midfield. Man Utd had spent more all round, I think their squad cost something like £5m more. Dalglish spent a lot on his goalie and attackers, but the likes of Wilcox (£0), Atkins (£45k), Gayle (£0), Pearce (£300k), Hendry (£750,000 - which we gave back to City - he actually cost £25k), Berg (£400,00) were massively frugal purchases in comparison, and they all played a large part in winning the PL.
