  1. In my opinion, if there was a clear and obvious (and cheap) option, it is likely Derby would have taken that rather than pay us £750k for Eustace. So not surprising to see the split in opinion between us all on who would be our best option as a replacement.
  2. Cantwell must still be carrying a knock and playing through pain? I noticed he had a lot of strapping on his calf against PNE.
  3. This LB would provide good support for Beck, and the option to push Beck forwards as well. Maybe also with a view for a permanent transfer in the summer as well given Beck won't be around next season...
  4. An interesting thought is that despite us not spending any of the transfer income we've recently received (Wharton, Raya, Gallagher etc), it will boost our stats for FFP immensely - I imagine we'll be making a profit (as alluded to in the recent fan forum minutes). So, off the back of the hearing this month, if we were somehow able to get rid of Venkys and get a new owner, I think they would be able to spend a decent amount of money without falling foul of FFP.
  5. Some reassuring activity at long last, which goes some way to addressing the lack of experience and numbers in the squad. I still think we're short of a 1 x GK, 1 X striker and 1/2 x wingers - still work to be done!
  6. I wonder if Eustace will be interested in any of the Brum players, having been their manager less than 12 months ago? Do any of them fit the bill for what we need?
  7. Carter makes a big difference to the back line. Pears was brilliant today - huge credit to him. Such a massive result and credit to the whole team.
  8. How can you possibly know that it will be approved? The fact it has to go in front of a court in India surely makes it uncertain by definition. Certainly a non zero chance it gets rejected on the basis the club has received funds in respect of the Adam Wharton deal...
  9. To see the best of Markanday, I think we'd have to play him in the #10 role. Unfortunately, not sure he'll ever get that chance. He's too slow and lightweight out wide when marked specifically by a full back. But when he finds space, he has good technical ability and a great strike on him. It's a shame he didn't get the chance (for whatever reason) to showcase his ability when on loan in Scotland.
  10. Anyone know if Villa are particularly good? Or is that a really disappointing result? O'Riordan was playing at the back today as well.
  11. Sounds like Gilsenan got another 2 goals tonight (in a 6-2 defeat). Must be pushing for inclusion in the first team squad soon - in great form.
  12. Koumetio is like pandoras box. Clearly has a lot of great attributes (that first touch on the high ball!), but also looks like he doesn't know what sport he's playing at times!
  13. I should have been clearer, I in no way believe the transfer window was a success, it was the complete opposite. I meant compared to a week ago, as Jimmy says below!
  14. Whilst the club is undoubtedly now in a better position to do well in the short term on the field, I can't help but feel disappointed with the way things have turned out. Desperately disappointed at the way things ended with JDT, he was a massive breath of fresh air, even till the bitter end when he had his legs taken away from beneath him in multiple transfer windows. Fans should rightly get behind the new manager, who on the face of it is a solid appointment, but can't help but feel that the real winners this week are Waggott and Venkys. They have potentially escaped a cauldron of emotion being poured their way if JDT had been the manager this weekend. The statement from JDT says it all really. And clearly GB must be frustrated to a large extent as well - fairly classy message he sent to JDT I thought. Whilst not faultless, I feel he is at least trying his very best to move us forwards, despite also being handcuffed.
  15. There's potentially going to be no one left... Head of finance left in December, Finance Director supposedly retiring imminently. Broughton may not be the best, but I certainly don't have him on the same level as Venkys / Suhail / Waggott. I don't think we can afford to lose all our finance team AND JDT AND Broughton. Who's going to hold everything together, Waggott?!
