  1. Frustrating it was called off, but had it gone ahead and the pitch been totally ripped up, we'd be cursing more further down the line. Other positives, Brereton hopefully fit for the re-arranged game, and we have a few further days rest ahead of three tough games
  2. Think wigans 2 x free tickets for every season ticket holder against Sunderland is fantastic. Rovers always seem to forget their season ticket holders, yet initiatives like wigans are easier to attract future paying supporters, given the person they are going with already has the bug. Bring a friend if just 25% took up the offer would boost the atmosphere, and if just a few percent of those then bought future tickets its a job well done
  3. Also had he not got in the way first half and touched ball Brereton is on side and we head back with 3 points
  4. A useful point and with a bit of luck could of been 3. I'm running out of compliments for Wharton and Van Hecke, oustanding again. Nyambe was also excellent as a stand in centre back. We were solid enough in midfield and nullified any real threat from them Final third, Brereton before going off was having one of his better games for a while. Negatives Bloody Gallagher will never be a prolific striker for as long as i Have a hole in my a**. Awful first tough, cant cross, turns like bus, powder puff in the air, and must be a joy to mark for centre backs. I just dont see what others see, I wanted to put my foot through the TV, everytime he got it. Khadra needs to pass, I'm not seeing a team player and its frustrating. Dolan needs a run in the first 11 now. Its funny, because if we start with Buckley at Right back and Khadra and Dolan flanking Brereton, we probably would of won that tonight. Lets hope Diaz injury just a knock, because the clubs decision not to sign an out and out striker in january is there for all to see. Even Murray and Davies cannot understand why we have no focul point and cant see where the goals come from without Diaz. Need 3 points Saturday, and probably a few goals to get up and running again
  5. No not him either
  6. I will not bore you with some of the names who wanted £10k £20k etc for an event which was to raise money for the former players.
  7. It was harder to take on the night, that old chestnut "never meet your hero's". It was two different people, the one in front of the camera's and on the pitch, then the other one behind the scenes. On a positive, the nicest person ever was Craig Short. We'd laid food on in the green room for the players. It was a hotpot supper for the supporters. I saw Short in the que for hotpot, I mentioned we'd put food on in the green room to him. His reply "i'd much rather be in here with the fans, its a short night and I dont want to miss a munute of it" . What an absolute gentleman that guy is.
  8. Sadly not Tugay was obviously the star attraction. A lot of supporters paid, £10 a ticket off memory to attend the aftermatch supper in Jacks Kitchen, to catch some moments with their heros. However despite our plea's Tugay refused to attend, even for just 2 mins and demanded his car to take him back to hotel. Was probably the sour note on what was an unbelievable event to organise, take part in, and see it all work on the night
  9. This is more than achievable, if the Action Group can organise a legends match as we did 6 or 7 years ago with BRFC FPA and get the star line up, Then this should be a walk in the park for the club to organise, or even BRFCS. A big chunk of the money raised went to supporting Alan Ainscow. The biggest issues we had last time, was the fees some former players wanted. Whilst many were happy to accept the token £500, some wanted thousands. Even Tugay, wanted hotel at Lowry, Chauffeur driven car, 24 shirts, first class flights, in an addition to an appearance fee. The secret to the event, was selling the sponsorship and making it affordable to all, in all areas. Given the following played. Filan, Kenna, Hendry, Atkins, Hignett, P Gallagher, Newell, Gallacher, Garner, Fazackerly, Grayson, Ripley, Tugay, Gillespie, and Short it was a good night
  10. Great words by TM on Rothwell, stating he knocked on his door 8am yesterday declaring he is ready to fight for the cause 100% committed. His comments about Joe in general dispels the rumour TM wanted him gone and he was finished. Onwards and forwards, feels like a new signing
  11. I watched a piece with Paul Merson yesterday. He said he is ashamed to admit it, but he went Middlesbrough because it was unbelievable money. He said he did okay there, but afterwards he always thought what if? As arsenal were completing a domestic double. The money the player recieves usually decides transfers, more than the fee. Most players want the most they can get, the weekly wage, the win bonuses, the goal bonuses, promotion/title incentives, player/rights revenues, pay increases on promotion, no decrease on relegation, release clauses. There is far more to getting a player than just having the bid accepted. As well documented during the Anderson Era, deals can fall apart when the agent wants more than the transfer fee. We like every club have a ceiling, and every other player at our club, has a contract which has to be considered when setting this ceiling. Bums on seat, better commercial deals, success on and off the pitch, will always dictate what can and cannot get spent. We've been burnt with so many big contracts to players not part of the plans going forwards, that this new approach is here to stay.
  12. Which answers the question of it not being a case of money not being available. We couldnt afford/compete with the wages
  13. I think the fact we had an offer for Dembele accepted, shows there was money to spend. In rovers recent terms, that would of been above what we usually spend. The wages are our biggest issue, How can Waggott justify giving a new siginng 10-15k plus if he wont offer anywhere near that to the players out of contract? He wants to stick to the wage structure, he believes is market rate. Sadly thats not the case, other clubs are paying more. I expect we will hear, wage demands were just out of our reach,
  14. Its the 1st February, i think we can all agree being 2nd in the league with 17 games to go is "wow factor" It feels special, more so than our league 1 campaign. We can see the premier league in the distance, it could be ours come may. We go back to August and if this had been predicted, people be questioning "what you smoking?" After years of decline, the dream of returning to the promised land, is more than just a dream. I personally didn't think we'd see top flight football again. Its certainly a different premier league than the one we left, when people are paying £12 million loan fees with bonus's if they stay up. Its going to be nail biting, its going to be a roller coaster, 7 or 8 other teams supporters are also daring to dream. Crowds are increasing, this window will define our season, if TM is satisfied we have enough, we have to trust that judgement. He deserves that, he has put the smiles back in our faces . Strap yourself in guys/lasses
  15. Truthfully if you was in a room with Waggott, would you sign on dotted line? His arrogance up there with Agnew
  16. Bloody hell , TM is barrymore in disguise, Strike it lucky lol
  17. Id of signed Defoe, anyone lol, think he is off to Sunderland though
  18. I think they are a joke tbh, it took all day to complete a loan deal.
  19. We can sign just free agents
  20. Should of bought a striker, should of bought one august too, no excuses. Gallagher, injured again, and really not going to ever score the goals or fill the void if Brereton was injured/suspended Dolan and Khadra are wide players, We are relying on defence at present, but our last 4 games, we have been woeful going forwards
  21. No ones disputing we have togetherness, but so does a number of other clubs. We are flying high above all expectations
  22. I'm not negotiating the deals, they had talks, they had bids, they've signed 2 players in last 24 hours and 5 over the window. Deals dont always go through, Dembele example of that, we bid, it was accepted, player said no thanks
  23. I've always felt we are playing for the play offs. We are on an incredible run, but at some point we will get a dip. We are certainly overachieving given the cost of our team, wages etc. We are this seasons Barnsley, its on our hands. Massive pressure on getting everyone fit and keeping them fit. We are giving hamstring injuries out like candy, which is not a quick fix
