  1. I watched a piece with Paul Merson yesterday. He said he is ashamed to admit it, but he went Middlesbrough because it was unbelievable money. He said he did okay there, but afterwards he always thought what if? As arsenal were completing a domestic double. The money the player recieves usually decides transfers, more than the fee. Most players want the most they can get, the weekly wage, the win bonuses, the goal bonuses, promotion/title incentives, player/rights revenues, pay increases on promotion, no decrease on relegation, release clauses. There is far more to getting a player than just having the bid accepted. As well documented during the Anderson Era, deals can fall apart when the agent wants more than the transfer fee. We like every club have a ceiling, and every other player at our club, has a contract which has to be considered when setting this ceiling. Bums on seat, better commercial deals, success on and off the pitch, will always dictate what can and cannot get spent. We've been burnt with so many big contracts to players not part of the plans going forwards, that this new approach is here to stay.
  2. Which answers the question of it not being a case of money not being available. We couldnt afford/compete with the wages
  3. I think the fact we had an offer for Dembele accepted, shows there was money to spend. In rovers recent terms, that would of been above what we usually spend. The wages are our biggest issue, How can Waggott justify giving a new siginng 10-15k plus if he wont offer anywhere near that to the players out of contract? He wants to stick to the wage structure, he believes is market rate. Sadly thats not the case, other clubs are paying more. I expect we will hear, wage demands were just out of our reach,
  4. Its the 1st February, i think we can all agree being 2nd in the league with 17 games to go is "wow factor" It feels special, more so than our league 1 campaign. We can see the premier league in the distance, it could be ours come may. We go back to August and if this had been predicted, people be questioning "what you smoking?" After years of decline, the dream of returning to the promised land, is more than just a dream. I personally didn't think we'd see top flight football again. Its certainly a different premier league than the one we left, when people are paying £12 million loan fees with bonus's if they stay up. Its going to be nail biting, its going to be a roller coaster, 7 or 8 other teams supporters are also daring to dream. Crowds are increasing, this window will define our season, if TM is satisfied we have enough, we have to trust that judgement. He deserves that, he has put the smiles back in our faces . Strap yourself in guys/lasses
  5. Truthfully if you was in a room with Waggott, would you sign on dotted line? His arrogance up there with Agnew
  6. Bloody hell , TM is barrymore in disguise, Strike it lucky lol
  7. Id of signed Defoe, anyone lol, think he is off to Sunderland though
  8. I think they are a joke tbh, it took all day to complete a loan deal.
  9. We can sign just free agents
  10. Should of bought a striker, should of bought one august too, no excuses. Gallagher, injured again, and really not going to ever score the goals or fill the void if Brereton was injured/suspended Dolan and Khadra are wide players, We are relying on defence at present, but our last 4 games, we have been woeful going forwards
  11. No ones disputing we have togetherness, but so does a number of other clubs. We are flying high above all expectations
  12. I'm not negotiating the deals, they had talks, they had bids, they've signed 2 players in last 24 hours and 5 over the window. Deals dont always go through, Dembele example of that, we bid, it was accepted, player said no thanks
  13. I've always felt we are playing for the play offs. We are on an incredible run, but at some point we will get a dip. We are certainly overachieving given the cost of our team, wages etc. We are this seasons Barnsley, its on our hands. Massive pressure on getting everyone fit and keeping them fit. We are giving hamstring injuries out like candy, which is not a quick fix
  14. Not sure where all this pressure talk is coming from, they are in 3rd and 2nd if they win their game in hand. Its not their first season back in the championship i understand the frustration because they bid for Rothwell, but to write them off is ludicrous
  15. Will agree to disagree, they are 3rd, have a game in hand. Hardly having a poor season. They can see the premierleague, and have opted to add more quality to an already good squad. They have the valuable cover we do not. For example, they get season ending injury to Solanke, they now have moore, dembele. We get season ending injury to Brereton, we have Ayala, and a growing injury list
  16. Lol, must of been writing this at same time
  17. Snodgrass was released by WBA, wouldnt mind him on free til end of season, be cheap and decent squad player, with bags of expereience
  18. On the whole ins, Markanday, nice signing, injury a bummer but nice to have him through door. Zeefuik - Solid first team player, offers options and genuine cover/competition at right back Giles - 9 assist already this season, with Pickering and Edun injuries, great bit of business Hedges - Cheap, cheerful, low risk low cost. Brown - Development squad Outs Clarkson - couldn't get in team Butterworth - just not happened for him Carter - will come back better player. Chapman - shouldn't of got new deal, wasted valuable funds in doing so Mcbride - not near first team Key players have stayed We are slightly stronger if everyone was fit. My Concern, Bournemouth have probably catapulted themselves into certainties for 2nd place. They've signed some real quality, Cantwell in particular is an oustanding player. Other clubs in and around us, also signed some decent players. That gap to 7th is a massive plus, and we may just need it, given injuries and expected suspensions.
  19. Trial by media? This approach eventually had the owners solicitors take out the last man in the boardroom who thought he was wiser than them. When you have a discussion, make a decision, everyone is clear of the decision, then find the need to wash it out in public, thats never going to be wise
  20. I dont think you need to explain yourself. The club handled this whole thing poorly, and there will be consequences far more than JR staying until the summer. You was fed the right information from an Ewood point of view, but the owners ultimately made it quite clear who is boss. I'm like you nowadays, prefer to say nothing, as its not worth the hassle, and you get abused for sharing what you've heard. Twitter is fantastic for getting abused too. You did a good job with this, and with four hours to go, it could change again. Other clubs want players like Joe, and with the right bargaining chip, it gets sanctioned. It was just never going to be Bournemouth in the owners eyes, who are extremely angry that people have tried to back them into a corner publically, at a time which has been their best since they arrived
  21. There is time yet, but leaving it until today to save a £1, puts us up against it. Clubs elsewhere have managed to sign players from worldwide, we are taking an age just to do a loan deal. We've been poor in the january windows since our stable administration left the club. I wouldnt trust Waggott n co to run a bath
  22. Alan Nixons interview on BBC Lancashire absolutely spot on regarding Rothwell. Everyone knew there was never going to be a sale, so TM should of stayed quiet rather than compromise player/club in effort to speak via media to owners. Also agree with him regarding the ludicrous decision of so many clubs of trying to steal a pound by waiting til end of window to sign players when they should/get deals done early and get a months worth of games out of them. Pains me to say the above, he never forgave me for telling him we were signing Dann and Yakubu
  23. I'm expecting 3 more, some deals will be on ice, as the selling clubs scramble for replacements. Its a race against time, Re Bournemouth, they have surplus players, its natural that we would ask during negotiations who can be make weights and who is available. Not got any names, but know the question has been asked. We also have money to spend on fees , if the wages can fit into the budget. Given the contracts not signed, we cannot break that pay structure and further de-rail morale
  24. Never a right or a wrong, things can change in a matter of seconds, especially if suddenly a Bournemouth player is heading to Rovers
