Buckley is a nothing player. Isn’t strong enough and can’t tackle well enough to play as a defensive midfielder. Can’t pass well enough or retain possession well enough to be a deep creative player. Can’t run with the ball and beat players to be a ‘number 8’ People need to take off the blue tinted spectacles. If we’d signed him from a lower half Championship side last summer people wouldn’t think he was good enough. Just because he came through the academy he gets extra chances. He’s nowhere close to a top 6 championship player.

Agree with this apart from Morton. You simply cannot put him in the same bracket as Hirst and Mola. Morton is quality, he’s just young. If he was in our academy everyone would be raving about him. He’s twice the player Buckley is and people seem to rave about him!

I’d agree with this apart from I don’t think we need another centre mid. Already have Travis, Morton, Buckley, Garrett, A.Wharton. Looks like Rovers will be in for JPVH though. Another ‘Hedges’ move done earlier than the summer to ward off any other potential suitors.

Why would he do that? If he stays a free agent he can take a £3/4m signing on fee for himself when he moves on a free, on top of having more clubs to choose from.

Hearing Rovers have now ended talks with a prospective player who was lined up to replace BBD. No idea who the player is, but now we’d better hope nobody comes in for him with an offer which meets the valuation.

Some people on here seem to be failing to understand the loan to buy deal for Hirst. Leicester wanted around £5m to let him go this summer, with just 12 months left on his deal. (Fee quoted to Pompey in June) Option 1: Rovers pay £5m for him now (of course paid over a few years) and sign the player who’s unknown at Championship level) If he stays at Leicester and doesn’t sign, they lose him for free next summer. Option 2: Player signs a new deal at Leicester, Blackburn sign player on loan with the option to buy him at £5m. If player is a success, Rovers trigger the deal and sign the player, taking over his existing contract at Leicester (between 15-20k p/w) If the player isn’t a success at this level, Rovers don’t pay, he goes back to Leicester and they still have an asset worth some value. Rovers have the option to buy with the ball in their court, agreement in place that the contract of the player transfers to our club. There’s no possible option that allows say a parachute payment club coming in and taking him for £8-10m if he has a great season. In that scenario, Rovers would activate the deal and then potentially sell the player for a profit or just keep him. It’s a win win for both Blackburn and Leicester. If he has a great season, we get a great player, if he doesn’t, he goes back to Leicester, who have an asset they can either loan again or sell rather than lose for free.

I think he’s a fair way away from being a cult hero. He’s been with us 4 seasons and had a good 5 months. Before last season, 80 games, 9 goals. Since January, he’s played 18 games and scored 4 goals. If we were looking at signing a replacement player with a similar record of one good half season in 4 years, how many would be moaning? Sell him and move on.

Seems an odd one. Finished 11th in La Liga last season, but only managed just over 5k fans for their game vs Athletico Madrid, and their highest attendance of the season was 13k vs Barcelona. (29k capacity stadium) Surely in Spain the only clubs he’d fancy (excluding the top 3) would be Sevilla, Real Sociedad, Valencia, Real Betis or Villarreal.
