Let me tell you how that rumour has started. ‘Oh, looks like we’re getting Steve Walsh as a DoF,’ * Google Steve Walsh * ’Right, so he’s been at Chelsea, Leicester & Everton, sounds decent’ *Looks at Steve Walsh Wikipedia* ‘Oh look he renewed his contract in 2016 at the same time as Craig Shakespeare’ *Creates Twitter Rumour*

Something doesn’t add up with Ferguson. I’m by no means an ITK, but I got a message back on the 16th April which suggested he was the name being whispered around the training ground. Then apparently his name hasn’t been on the shortlist and now all of a sudden his name is being thrown into the ring by 3rd parties.

In all fairness it’s much easier when you’ve got the capabilities to pick from a pool of decent managers. When you’re operating with the budget we likely have, it’s more difficult. Yes I do think they should have identified a target and gone after him, but imagine they’d gone all out for Farke, he decides the club doesn’t match his ambitions, so we go after an in work manager, say Manning, and he doesn’t fancy it. You’ve then got to start this process of interviewing managers who all know they are third choice at best. Once they’ve started this process of interviewing they might as well follow it through properly, even if it wasn’t the right strategy to begin with.

Transfer Window - COMPLETE. Where’s Gregg?

Walker is an interesting gamble. At PNE he was deemed to be better than Dolan talent wise. He can be an outstanding player on his day and the club gave him an extra two years to mature and sort out his attitude. The thinking at the academy was that he’d done enough to earn himself another deal this time round but it appears not. Either that or Rovers got in his ear first. “If you give him the chance that Dolan got you’ll have some player,” was what I was told. -
Given that it’s been predominantly foreign managers who have gained promotion from this league in recent times, I can imagine this would make sense for Venkys. Frank, Farke, Xisco Munoz, Bielsa, Bilic, Silva etc. Only recent exceptions for this are Parker (tons of £) and now Cooper who to be fair has been fantastic at Forest.

Farke first time round at Norwich spent around £4 million to get them promoted and promoted youth players like Max Aarons, Todd Cantwell etc from the academy. Second time round, granted he spent £11m but they brought in around £40m in player sales that year. It was also predominantly the same squad second time round as they hardly spent after their first promotion to the Premier League. Granted Wagner did a fantastic job at Huddersfield but I think Farke’s two promotions with Norwich aren’t an easy achievement.

I can’t believe there’s people on here complaining that we’ve wasted time by interviewing different managers. It’s really worked well for us in the past when we’ve just used a ‘consultant’ to cherry pick a manager for us hasn’t it… If they’d just gone and appointed the first name they considered, we’d be sat here with Duncan Ferguson as our manager now. That might still happen, but at least they are taking a measured approach and seeing what is available.

So of the 8 interviewed it’s certainly Carvalhal, Fergusson and Carrick. Nixon claims Beale too. I also have a ‘hunch’ that Dyche was one of the last to be interviewed (Friday) You would also think that despite what it says in the LT, you can have preliminary talks with in work managers but in order for them to progress then you need to contact the club, so it wouldn’t surprise if Ainsworth and Manning were included in the 8.
