  1. For me I'd be surprised of we make it now. Weve got a series of games against better sides than Huddersfield and as good as we are going forward we look very brittle at the back and struggle to covert. To get the points we need we need to not concede but it feels like every game we will give the opposition goals and continue to make hard work of finishing the many opportunities we make.
  2. Yeah I had it around 10 mins, and I'm not usually that fussed about extra time. How could it be 5 mins. Fantastic performance in the middle third. Not good enough in the back and final third. The abiding impression is we have to work so hard and play so well to get goals but the opposition doesn't need to do much to get theirs. The sort of ultra attacking setup we are going for it does leave us very open. Carter and Hyam aren't the quickest, and to effectively leave them as the only players back for the entire game is incredibly risky. Luckily Huddersfield didn't have real pace, I worry when we do play it. Still without really looking that threatening we gave away two easy goals. Overall I admire JDTs tactical ambition and look forward to see what he can do with a few new players. I'd say if this is the way we're going to play we need a proper fox in the box striker, but also someone who is an absolute physical colossus in midfield to cover huge amounts of ground on their own. Also quicker centrebacks seem a necessity.
  3. I hesitate to criticise Carter and Hyam too much, their left completely exposed. No cover from central midfield or full back. We're playing like we reckon we're peak Liverpool or Barcelona.
  4. In terms of how many players we commit forward its probably the most attacking Ive ever seen us play. But lack of a proper striker makes it so inefficient in terms of actually threatening the goal. And the defence is noy good enough to be left so hugely exposed. Were playing with quite a lot of arrogance really which isnt substantiated by the facts.
  5. Yeah and you can see no one bothers playing a short ball into him in front of the defence as its as good as giving the ball away. Honestly if we had a 33 year old Danny Graham in the team and wed be solid for the playoffs.
  6. If anyone has one spare ticket please let me know. Didn't realise it would sell out! Obviously happy to pay full face value.
  7. Probably Travis would be on the right of the three with Garrett holding. I think taking Szmodics also a big call... The reason we are getting overrun in midfield isn't really about the players imo, its more the tactics. We are prioritizing putting a lot of players in the channels. Travis spends as much time on the right wing as in the middle. Same with Szmodics on the left. The idea being to combine and overwhelm the opposing full back. It's worked well up until the last two games but as always I think the opposition have figured it out. We're leaving big gaps in the middle with Morton left on his own so the opposition will now just play straight balls through where the space is. We need to adjust something (dropping Morton for one thing as he seems so vulnerable to losing the ball in dangerous positions) but I am not sure taking Szmodics out playing another CM is the right thing. Maybe dropping Gallagher, moving BBD centrally and playing Szmodics on the left could work.
  8. Yeah. Morton and Travis both had shockers. Couldnt find good forward passes and lost the ball cheaply time after time. Really disappointing as Trav has been so good recently. Almost verged on the amateurish. Wharton literally didnt put a foot wrong in his 20 mins. Id be really surprised if he does not start on Monday. Seems nailed on to me. Part of me wonders if Garrett could come in and give Travis a rest too. But that's probably unlikely.
  9. Interesting interview. Im a bit surprised that neither the interviewers or JDT mentioned that the game before and after the substitutes was completely different. Jon said "we created as many chances as Norwich". But what he didnt say is 80% of those chances were between the 75th and 95th minute.
  10. Yeah, if we'd won yesterday I would be more worried about Monday, but since we lost I actually feel like our chances in Huddersfield have increased. Bizarre but that's the way we have been this season.
  11. I thought Carter was pretty good, not sure why hes getting criticised? Team for me Pears Brittain. Carter. Hyam. Pickering Travis. A Wharton JRC. Szmodics. Dolan. BBD With Thomas out playing JRC at RW seems a better shout than Hedges or Dolan there. Gallagher and Morton also have to be dropped
  12. Very frustrating performance. Norwich didnt really do anything tactically different, nor did they actually play that well, in fact they were very average. But they won very very easily won. That Sorba and Wharton needed to come on was obvious from around the 30th minute. Why we waited till the 75th I really really dont understand. We were instantly better....
  13. Got in behind a couple of times but not a single shot... Norwich look dangerous on the break. Id say strong argument to bring on Wharton for Morton and Sorba for Hedges. I wish we had an alternative to Gallagher up front. Occupies the opposition off the ball but offers so little on it.
  14. Overall JDT has been incredibly fair with giving players chances - from Travis to JRC to Carter to Szmodics to Dack to Pears etc etc - everyones got a fair crack, and when youre in you get a few games to show whether you can hold onto your place. I sincerely doubt hes picking on Adam Wharton.
  15. I reckon Wharton deserves a crack, but I think it's a bit of a stretch to be certain that he would be better than Morton. I would be surprised if he was consistently a significant step up. Morton, Buckley, Wharton all seem very similar to me. Great on a good day, poor on a bad day, never too sure which you are going to get.
  16. Yeah I wouldnt think it would really suit JRC to play a central role in a two, he is good roaming around and finding space, if he was at central midfield partnership I think the need to always be available centrally and play on the half turn wouldn't really be his bag. Would suit right side of a midfield three more but then we would still have to find someone for the left of the three. If we are dropping Morton the obvious shout is to bring Wharton or Garrett in, not move JRC. Like for like replacement. Id give Wharton a shot, drop Morton, but persist with Gallagher up top as we have little other choice.
  17. Hes not been great for us. But i do wonder if hed improve a bit with game time like JRC has. Would happily swap him for a proper left back though as we have loads of young mids and only one specialist left back.
  18. Out of the options we have I would still start Gallagher btw, as I can't see anyone else being better. We can play Dack up top but then we lose our press which is absolutely critical, play Dolan and he is not a box player, play Brereton Diaz and he wants to be outside coming in on his right foot. I suppose maybe it will be worth starting Dolan wide left and BBD up front to give it a go. But I bet my bottom dollar BBD will spend most of his time in the left channel making triangles with Dolan and Pickering rather than in the box. At least Gallagher has improved on that front recently, and spends more of his time in the 18 yards than on the right wing. Our lack of striker options are a joke. A decent centre forward and we would have playoffs in the bag.
  19. Gallagher is okay if you are playing deep and you want someone to pick up the ball and run with it and press the opposition back line. He is absolutely hopeless though if the opposition sits back and space is a premium (like Brum on Saturday). I don't think JDT really rates him either reading between the lines, but literally we have no one else at the moment. However there is a plus is that Norwich won't want to sit deep so I can see Gallagher having a better game as it will suit him more.
  20. I like Szmodics also, he gets in the right places normally (not such a good game today though). But like Dack he is not a centre forward, and can't expect to be the focal point. Really if we stuck a championship forward at the top of the team we would get promoted automatically or run it very close. In the summer finding two top strikers is the absolute critical priority, I think JDT knows it. Think I trust him and Broughton to find them too,
  21. Yeah, I think we played okay generally apart from some lapses in concentration at the back. What is the main issue is the lack of a quality centre forward. We could control the ball but just very little to play it up to. Really looking forward to having a proper goal scorer up front, whenever that may be.
