From what I have heard and read people just need to calm down a bit about England yes its great to win 2 from 2 but having seen every team twice, I think that we have probably played the two worst teams in the tournament. It is a real worry that we have conceded in both games especially as we have been under hardly any pressure defensively, I worry what may happen when we come up against a good attacking team. Also I keep hearing about how good and dangerous England look going forward but only two of our goals have not come from set pieces and one of them was a fluke, we need to start scoring more from open play as when we play a good organised team you aren't going to get free headers at goal or penalties from naïve fouls .

I don't think Tunisia is that poor and this reminds me of when England played Algeria in 2010, result? Draw. It may not mean anything to people but Tunisia is #21 FIFA rankings I believe.

England had problems winning vs. Tunisia but they opened up very strongly.

Panama? Well, they were thoroughly dominated.

  2. After that last World Cup, I'm pleased as a peach to see how this has gone and a nice flowing game frequently, one can always say you should have better opposition. England could meet Japan in the next round. It's pretty amazing that Japan came down from a goal down twice. Quality team. Vs. Belgium? Both are advancing, so we'll see.

There's some good old fashioned BRFCS negativity going on after the Panama game despite the great result. England slowed it down in the second half as they didn't want to get involved in any antics that the Panamanians were trying. Cooper, I think, elbowed both Lingard and Maguire. Others were rolling around like they were on fire if an England player touched them. It was disgraceful from Panama. They were much inferior and resorted to idiocy.

Kane may have scored a fortunate 3rd but his 2 penalties were taken with real confidence. Hard to take that away from him.

Be happy with what commentators you have. Fox have the World Cup in the USA. I had to listen to ex USA women's international Ally Wagner during the England game. There's also Dr. Joe Machnick who provides referee analysis periodically. He's modelled on their NFL coverage, and is useless. Studio insight is provided by Alexi Lalas, who is a first class goon.

    First paragraph, A

Last paragraph.......well, uh, I know I'm not going to like some of what Lalas says per one of the last World Cups but I think he's reeled it in a bit.  I can tolerate him because he's Alexi and was pretty good back in 1994. Yeah, I get it how he can be irritating, he was hard on England back in 2010 I believe..... I gave away my football video VCRs,  they took too much space .... but the USA hosted  World Cup'94, of course, that is the last one England missed..... and then, after the World Cup in July/August,  1994, USA and England played a friendly at Wimbledon .

It's amazing, upon watching that video that though, England missed that World Cup, the crowd is as loud and enthusiastic as all get out. I almost don't understand it. That's the way it was in '94. Okay, personal anecdote, just commenting.

    Oh yeah, England did win.

  4. Social media, so, facebook, twitter, etc. I'm not into that social media.  Follow it a tiny, tiny bit.

Japan is pretty impressive, I wouldn't wager on them getting beyond the round of 16, they might but they certainly have some work ethic.

And England or Belgium could easily face either of these two in the round of 16.

It also often relies on an opposition player cracking under pressure. Case in point the idiot who made the needless foul to set up Kroos.

Essentially I agree with your points though.

Jimmy Durmaz was the Swede who has gotten quite a bit of flack from yesterday's match. One can read it for themselves.

Even being threatened, Swedish FA files report with Police.

  6. Russia could hardly have had their Olympic athletes in the last Olympics, they entered under the Olympic flag. Some are good blokes who play in the National Hockey League, NHL like Alexander Ovechkin... but nonetheless, per the "doping perspective", I'd keep an eye on that but I'd think all of the athletes are being tested.

  7. I'm grateful for what we get, the largest margin of victory in a World Cup game by England I think, when they play Belgium, one might say, "well, neither team has pressure on them to win"... so, it will be to wait for the group H match up which as of now, would be Japan or Senegal... the group H matches are the next two, Japan Senegal, Poland Colombia.

  8. https://www.cbssports.com/soccer/news/germany-world-cup-scenarios-tiebreakers-how-the-defending-champs-rest-of-group-f-can-advance/

Germany's group F scenarios, yes, it does seem like it's all over but there is one more game to play.

Reading this article, actually, even Mexico can't completely lay their guard down, if somehow Sweden defeated Mexico, Germany defeats South Korea....there is a scenario where Mexico could be held back.   Even South Korea have an outside chance, nobody expects them to defeat Germany, we know.

I can't believe they don't let head to head resolve this. It looks like goal differential is mainly what decides ties in the standings.

  9. Mexico's doing okay, after defeating the World Champions, I think a bit of a letdown.

World Cup champions have lost fairly frequently their opening game. Probably because an opponent has about 7 months to contemplate and prepare getting on the pitch and playing against them.

  10. 2 Serbians were wrestled down cerca the 66th minute on a corner, Serbia should have been rewarded a penalty.  Most announcers seem to agree.

I guess if the 'big boys' means scoring 2 goals after the 90 minute mark against Mighty Costa Rica, then, yes, those must be the big boys.

  11. Shows you how good Croatia is, took Nigeria out of their game totally, made them look silly.

Croatia may not be the best team there, but there's probably only 2 or 3 teams that might be better.

Euro 2008, Croatia defeated Germany I believe, so, bring on anyone.

  12. NIgeria looked so out of sorts in that last match,  I even had to tell my Nigerian friend they weren't out of it...based on the last game, I would have been difficult to foresee this today.

Yes, originally, they were called the Green Eagles but it sounded odd, now the Super Eagles.
