  1. He also sprinkled a bit of magic dust on us with the signings of Archibald and Ardiles. Absolutely revolutionary at the time and a big statement of intent which put much needed bums on seats.
  2. Lovely little cameo today from Big Ben. The boy can play! I think he is at his best centrally with someone next to him. I don't think a wide role or a lone one suits him at present. He narked Swansea for some reason and drew so many fouls. He has tidy feet and some pace. He has always had a kind of swaggering confidence. It's just hard at present to fit him in centrally from the off and I hope Mowbray never plays him wide again. As things stand, I would place him ahead of Samuel and Graham but behind Armstrong and Gallagher in the pecking order as striker. A goal would do wonders for him.
  3. I'd have fancied Barry Manilow for it to be honest.
  4. They were busy bringing one or two points to the attention of Sam Vokes to be fair.
  5. Why, does he wash the kits?
  6. Great post and a great topic by Stuart. It occurred to me that some of these supporters may have been from Liverpool. Stranded at the Boulevard by the transport crisis and making their way down on foot. All mingling nicely and no aggro....
  7. Hope so. I think he would have made a good replacement for Buckley later on in today's game. Having someone like Rothwell with his ability to travel with the ball and retain possession would probably have seen us over the line today. We missed having someone to run at them and drag them around a bit.
  8. Judging by the look of Fulham tonight, I think we got it tactically wrong in showing them so much respect the other week. Hope we are a bit more proactive tomorrow.
  9. The new series (or season as everyone likes to say now ?) is showing on Sky Comedy which is channel 113. Episode four of series ten was shown last night and repeated on successive Sundays.
  10. Don't panic m1st. Otherwise we're all doomed ☺
  11. At least Adarabioyo would be able to revert back to his favoured right hand side if Williams comes in. He plays much more comfortably there.
  12. Yes he was decent. Typical Charlie really. Very unlucky with a free kick. Looked in good shape. I always wonder how older pro players will cope with quick, aggressive young lads but they tend to handle them quite easily. I enjoyed watching him. He played the full game.
  13. You must be tougher than me Stuart. I'm still thawing out! Yes, decent performance tonight and an entertaining game. Midway through the first half I heard Mulgrew say to Louie Annesley "What's his name" about our right back Dan Pike, which made me laugh. He then proceeded to give Pike a piece of his mind. Think he called him a stupid boy....
  14. I think Brereton is capable of becoming a decent player for us. I spent a bit of time with him the other week at a local event. He is a naturally confident boy with a lot about him. He has a bit of charisma and seems quite sure of himself. Reports of him in tears at a recent away game seem totally incongruous to me. Having watched him at extremely close range at Leyland during the odd Under 23 fixture, he is a talker on the pitch; cocky, and sure of himself. These attributes are massive in footballers. Last night he repeatedly demanded the ball and made himself available. He was determined to get involved and make an impression. I felt he was far more likely to score in his 20 minute cameo than Graham in his 70 minutes. In fact his introduction completely altered the dynamic in a positive way. There is a long way to go in his development but he is still a boy. I would start him in the next few games as a number 9. I believe he will go on to have a better career than, say Sam Gallagher.
  15. Although I can see the temptation of playing Armstrong right on the defender's shoulder to utilise his pace in behind, I don't see it as his best position. Having now had the chance to assess his strengths and weaknesses properly, I believe he is best employed behind the main striker(s). He played there late on in both of the last two games and looked good there, with time to get on the ball and run centrally with it. This led to his goal last night and he looked such a threat from deeper. In fact, I think you could try Brereton centrally with Armstrong playing slightly deeper off him. If you throw Rothwell into that attacking mix it could look very exciting.
  16. My thoughts exactly. Travis started the game sticking closely to Cairney and having a couple of bites at him. One in particular from behind wound Cairney up and he complained to the ref. Travis wound his neck in a bit after that. The canny Cairney had made a mental note of this however, and waited until late into the game before retaliating. He raked his studs down Travis' right Achilles which was a bit naughty. Travis looked like he might go off after that and I wouldn't be surprised if he misses Tuesday's game because of it.
  17. Regarding the Red button issue; my season ticket holding Dad who is aged 74 and unfortunately feeling poorly this week, was saddened to read that he won't be able to watch on TV. He isn't fit to go in person tonight. Sometimes the result of a decision can have unpredicted consequences. Seems a shame....
  18. Or we do. We might play Burnley (unless they get relegated)
  19. If someone had told me before the kick off that Travis would be involved in a sending off and that the scoreline would be 5-0, I would have bet the farm on us being the losers. I thought Lenihan looked good today. He is clearly benefitting from partnering such a class act as Adarabayio, and in particular his distribution today was much calmer, more assured and most importantly the ball was played intelligently into feet.
  20. In that case, one would absolutely expect them to sack him. If your theory is correct, his continued employment is surely untenable.
  21. Probably weighing up whether to take a punt on Smallwood.
  22. Interestingly, not a single poster has mentioned Travis at all. Not even in anyone's top three which is surprising.
  23. Let's hope one or two of them make it, because our Indian friends certainly ain't buying any!
  24. Barnes is a Tosin Adarbayio type. He benefitted recently from a spell at Marine FC playing against a more rough and tumble set of strikers than he is used to. He is still only 18 and I can see him having a decent career. He is a bright, hard working, lovely lad with a good local supportive network around him. He is very much the modern silky type of defender who was a skilful attacking goal scoring school footballer a few years ago.
  25. Enjoyable game tonight. Sam Barnes is doing well, in answer to the above post. Tall, athletic and decent pace, he is a modern ball playing centre half. Luke Brennan is one of the younger lads and made another good cameo late on. He is a winger in the old fashioned sense. Likes to get to the byline and cross from there. Reminds me of Chris Waddle and one to watch I think. Lyons was nice and tidy and both fullbacks worked hard; Sam Hart too. Interesting to see Ritchie play the full game. I spotted Dunny watching and could definitely see a move to Blackpool on the cards for Smallwood. Presumably he played for the shop window. Nice to see Derek Fazackerley too. He is,at Oxford I believe so possibly checking a Brighton player.
