I thought Nyambe was more at fault, it was a good ball in and he lost his man. You think Raya should’ve come for it fair enough and he gave Brentford a goal last week. Still don’t think that means we should start with a keeper whose nowhere near as good as he is just to punish him, it’s about winning games and we’ll win more games with Raya. If Raya keeps making mistakes then we change in the summer not now when we have no replacement.

I don’t blame Raya for the goal yesterday. The ball is whipped in too low for him to commit early to coming out. It shouldn’t be getting past the near post. Nyambe got himself in a right mess, so worried about not losing his man that he wasn’t paying attention to the ball. -
I just don’t see the point in dropping Raya. I don’t think that the goal Saturday was his fault. Leutwiler is not good enough. No point. i get that some fans don’t rate Raya but only solution is to by a new keeper in he summer.

I think from my lifetime the list should probably read in order: Tugay Colin Hendry Henning Berg Tim Sherwood David Dunn Then your getting into any of the Premier League winners (Ripley, Wilcox, Sutton, Flowers, Le Saux), Then maybe people like Duff or Jansen. Maybe even further beyond that Ryan Nelson, MGP.

One good Big Sam story I was told was before a home game he came into the dressing room and wrote 'win and you have the week off' on the tactics board, didn't say anything else. We win and the players got the whole next week off.

Neither can I but one can dream. I've got a funny feeling that Smallwood might start though. He's reverted to the old guard before after a bad result could happen again. -

Sounds like we'll only be missing Lenihan of those that picked up knocks against Brentford. I'd go: Raya Nyambe Rodwell Mulgrew Bell Bennett Reed Travis Armstrong Dack Graham Subs: Leutwiler, Magloire, Smallwood, Evans, Rothwell, Brereton, Nuttall Would've been a straight swap with Nyambe for Bennett but Evans took a few knocks last week at Brentford so Bennett would have give us some fresher legs in midfield and allow Reed to play in his natural position. If Mulgrew isn;t deemed fit enough and with Lenihan out I would give Magloire a go rather than easy option of playing Williams, -
Lewis Wing is 23. Not that young

Joe Nuttall the big winner of this window. He's going to get till the end of the season to stake his claim. -

I genuinely don't think that its poor, I just think with his large wages (1million a week and rising if other posters are to be believed!) and what i've heard about his previous injury it's worth it. Also we need a forward who can offer something more than just goals (don't fancy a repeat of the Rhodes debates) it's only the last few months that Pulis has been playing him out wide from what I can gather. -

He's got 37 in 104 league games since his injury. If we did get him i'm sure he'd be at least a good option for us. I think for £10million and 40k a week i'm not sure I would go for him. -

I'm really not sure about Assombalonga if i'm being honest. It's great that we've got the money to spend and all that but I just don't see how it fits with what we are trying to do. I don't think he's going to be first choice, Graham is very important to the way we play and he's not the same type of striker, he's poor at bringing others into the game according to Boro fans. The Money to get him would be close to £10m which is a lot for us to spend on someone who isn't going to start every game when available. Also his wages are probably double what the rest of the squad is, considering the problem with the Gallagher move is his wages of 25k a week then Assombalonga on 35k-40k a week is even more of a stretch. Also theres very little resale value with Assombalonga, from what i've been told his knee injury in 15/16 season was pretty bad, to the extent where he's done well to get back from it all, and that theres a good chance it could go again and he'd be worthless to us. Would be interesting to see if he passes a medical. Feels like its someone we've been offered rather than someone we've actively sought out to. If like Madon posted we are in for both him and Gallagher then thats makes next to no sense unless either we plan on playing two up top, we are selling Dack (which it doesn't appear that we are), or we are planning to play them out wide (please god no). Id rather go for Gallagher loan to buy if thats workable. Also would be a bit weird if Boro get Gallagher then we get Assombalonga. Am I being too negative? I feel bad for not getting as giddy as everyone else -
I'd go Raya Nyambe Lenihan Rodwell Bell Armstrong Travis Reed Bennett Dack Graham I'd give Rothwell another 30 mins of the bench, would be tempted to start him but him and Armstrong might be too cavalier out wide and Armstrong is undroppable in current form. Subs: Canadian, Mulgrew, Evans, Smallwood, Rothwell, Butterworth, Nuttall

See I think it's the perfect time to bring in a foreign player, especially for us. Sign the player now give them 6 months to settle in the country before the start of next season when they can make an impact. It may take time for a player to adapt to the football in particular. Its hard to criticise Mowbray as we don;t know the quality of players from Europe that are being offered to us. It did sound to me like he had ruled out that option for this window which might be a little short sighted. -

I'm a little disheartened by Mowbrays comments about foreign markets. You look at Norwich and a key portion of their squad have been plucked cheaply from the German 2nd division, like with France a few years ago there's always a few markets with good value for money. He must have reasons for doing this probably due to a poor scouting structure. But he also said that he's unlikely to go for lower league players like say North End or doing. It gives a very limited pool of players to pick from especially when you consider we aren't throwing big money in wages around. -
There's a lot to consider with Chapman. If he didn't have so many problems with his hamstring we'd be throwing money at Boro to get him. Seems like he was doing alright for Boro under 23's earlier in the season but he's had 2 further hamstring injuries since then. It's hard to know what state he will be in if he does arrive. We don't know if he will still have that quickness, he may be permanently damaged. Boro aren't bothered with him but won't let him go for free. He's out of contract in the summer but they could just offer him another contract in the summer to get some compensation. You'd think we'd be better waiting and trying to pick him up for free in the summer on a small contract to try minimise our risk. But the lad has missed a year and a halfs worth of football since the start of last season. He's also missed a big chunk of the season before he came to us so he's really short on actual football. If we signed him Tony definitely wouldn't start him but would be a better attacking option on the bench than say Conway, is the odd 15/20 mins here and there going to progress him enough though. Would starting 15 games in a row in league 1 be too much for him with the injuries he's had, maybe a slower build with our first team would be less of a risk that way we can build him up physically to try make his body more robust. Imagine if we end up pushing the playoffs and he's fit and firing elsewhere, if he's fit then he could contribute. The other thing to consider is players of his style are not cheap, if we don't get Chapman i can't see us going in for an out and out winger that we need. To summarise what others have said on here, heart says yes head says no.

This is how it looks to me. Tonys gone from saying that the players here need to improve or they will replaced to that he's happy with the squad. If he intends to stick to the time frame above then its odd that we would be happy to sit out a transfer window. If we win on Saturday we'd go level on points with Hull and would be 3 points off the playoffs. You would think that might trigger us to get one decent signing in if only only loan to give it a go. If we don't and we fall away i'd be satisfied to see the likes of Butterworth, Davenport, Brereton, Rothwell, Buckley, Mols, Magloire some game time. -

I think we'll make do with Lenihan, Mulgrew, Williams, Rodwell as the main 4 and if we're struggling then Nyambe or Magloire and Platt from the under 23's -

Noticed Preston have signed another player - is that 5 or 6 they've signed this window? -
Outside of Blackburn i've always found Tugay to be extremely underrated. People tend to remember him as the guy who scored a screamer once a season, but he was so much more. When his name comes up those goals aren't at the front of my mind. There is a video somewhere on YouTube of him (I can't find it right now as i'm at work) just controlling play from deep, turning out of danger and spraying passes, its mesmeric and perfectly shows what he was about as a player. He was a great showman too really played to the crowd, we haven't had anyone like that since. Anyway he's my favourite Rovers player of all time, and I'd be surprised if that answer changed before the end of my life. If we have another player i enjoy to watch as much a did Tugay i'd be a very happy man.
