30 is very much the theme for Rovers and myself this season. Of course, this season is the 30th Anniversary of Rovers’ Premier League title victory and on a personal note is my 30th season as a season ticket holder. To mark the occasion and to mark 30 days to Christmas, I set myself the challenge of choosing a ‘Match of the Season’ from each of the last 30 years. One a day until December 24th 2024. Each seasons game has been chosen as one that stands out for a particular reason (not always the best reasons) and I’ve included some context and perspective to go along with it. Presumably working under 'Technical Director' Sebastian Pelzer, formerly of this parish. Hope he's packed his thermals ahead of a winter on the shores of Lake Michigan! That said, my personal favourite of all the US Cities I've visited. Another wrinkle being Chicago's manager, the former US Mens National Team, fellow double G Gregg Berhalter, the hugely unpopular coach was sacked in June. Loves a challenge does our Gregg!

Well done Scotty! Though it may just be me, I think the article is pretty poor journalism. Grab the low hanging fruit, whilst copy and pasting a million similar articles over the last dozen years. Venkys came in, ruined the Walker legacy, made bad decisions, compounded those decisions, haven't been seen much since. It doesn't take a Pulitzer Prize to write 90% of that article. The juiciest paragraph is saved to the very end and this is what a journalist should be writing about. Where has the fan base gone? Why have they gone? How robust was it in the first place? These questions are the ones that deserve a journalistic deep dive, rather than a bunch of 'maybe this' and 'maybe that'.

I do know several of the mascots coming up, including a mate who was my usher, who was mascot for the oft forgotten Boxing Day fixture against Leeds United......why don't you remember it? Well perhaps because it was called off due to a waterlogged pitch! The replayed match was the one where Flowers saw red for felling Brian Deane after about 30 seconds. Rovers have often ruined a Christmas (ironically see Leeds away 2018) but that takes some beating, though even the most cynical Rovers fan would surely blame the weather and not the club.

Any news on Carter? Looked like an ankle/lower leg injury from my seat (albeit the other side of the field in the Riverside). Hopefully weeks not months out!

Rovers last league victory against Coventry, in the city of Coventry? 29th August 1992 A first win in 32 years in the city of Lady Godiva would be most welcome! Rovers beat Coventry 4-0 away from home in the Championship, whilst they played their home games at St Andrews, Birmingham. Rovers have won at the CBS Arena, a 3-1 victory in the League Cup. In the red and black pinstripe kit!

To be fair to them, losing two Championship Play Off Finals (2000/01 lost 3-0 to Bolton and 2004/05 lost 1-0 to West Ham) is pretty close. Although you can add Huddersfield, Cardiff, Brighton, Bournemouth, Brentford, Swansea all of whom were below, or even divisions below PNE last time they reached the Playoff Final in 2005, who've gone on to appear in the Premier League.

Pity Toth is away with Hungary for a couple of weeks, I'd assume he comes back and slots in on the bench, time on the training ground with the back four and whole squad is important for his growth and his settling into a new league, country etc. Cantwell should start (barring injury) would expect Cozier-Duberry to come off the bench also. The big headache is probably Beck vs. Pickering, again hopefully Beck avoids injury with Wales and returns ready to retain his place. I'd imagine Eustace will want an ''earn the shirt'' mentality. Weimann to get a hero's welcome! Thats the most certain outcome.

An evening to be pleased and proud as a Rovers fan. Lets get the bleedingly obvious out of the way, they’ve lost a lot of their better players and, as of today, aren’t as impressive as the team that Kompany had a couple of years back. Focusing on us though. Today was everything we didn’t show the last time at Turf Moor. Courage, determination and work rate across the whole squad. A left back thrown in at the deep end. A manager who wasn’t afraid to change his principles. Eustace and the boys weren’t going to allow themselves to be bullied today. Compared to November 2022, it was night and day. That is what is/was most pleasing. Ok we were wasteful in possession and the Gueye sending off was petulant and immature (if a little harsh and further typified the inconsistency of the referee) we also relied on a wonder goal in a game where chances were of a premium. But the heart and character are things to build on. Looking back at his time as gaffer, the Turf Moor game was a low point for JDT and the first time confidence in his style started to wane…I think it’s fair to say that Eustace has enhanced his stock after today and deservedly earned more credit with the fanbase. And in closing……oh and the offside? I guess we’re even now for Dunny!

I bet we’d all have laughed in disbelief if you’d said two seasons ago, at the start of the JDT era (the year after the Chile breakout) that Brereton Diaz and Szmodics would both get their first permanent moves to the Premier League in Summer 2024…..and Sammie would go for nearly 25% more

Playing the waiting game with Szmodics is the right call, he'll go and they'll end up paying almost if not all of what we want. Still a long way to go in the transfer window. Without wanting to sidetrack the thread (this is the most active on the forum at present) but has Neil Yardley left the club? Not heard him on any of the interviews with the new signings, or post match bits at Stockport. Just wondering..

No Harry Leonard in that graphic. He was showing promising signs in the first half of last year before the unfortunate injury. I'd expect him to be challenging for a first team role when back fit.
