[Archived] Benni Mccarthy - Gone
salothsar replied to adam lodge's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Both have been excellent value for money. Bellamy's attitude off the pitch leaves a lot to be desired but Benni's on the pitch hasn't always been the best in my opinion. A bit too much hands on hips when things haven't been going exactly his way. He deserved to be dropped, and I'm sure that's what it was. Seems to have had the effect that Hughes wanted as well. Just hope it isn't necessary to do it again. And he has publicly said he now knows you have to run a lot more over here. -

Haven't heard Pelican, Red Sparowes or Russian Circles but do like Explosions In The Sky. God Speed You Black Emperor, Mogwai, Boards of Canada and best of the bunch for me are Sigur Ros -
Can't be doing with the bunch of big club barra boy w******. Always want them to go down. The fact that they've Lucre Neil and loads of dosh will make it all the more sweet if/when it happens

Can't stand West Ham and always enjoy watching ex Rovers struggling in a crap team when they were supposedly leaving for bigger and better things. However, the kind of money they are throwing around (unsuccesfully) at the moment shows both how desperate they are to stay up, and how much the new owner is willing to back his manager and club to do just that. I would love them to go down with Lucas but I rekon they will stay up and next season will be a completely different story and Lucas might well have the last laugh. And no matter what anyone says they are a bigger club than us. And I love "big clubs" being relegated

Given that he will go for a minimal fee in Jan or none at all at the end of the season and therefore, would be able to negotiate a better deal for himslef personally, wouldn't it be in his own best interests to play as well as he possibley can. This would make him more attractive to more clubs and increase his value.

I agree. If we can actually win a couple of European matches (or even one) it will do the coffers a world of good to say nothing of the confidence factor, which it certainly wouldn't do any harm to give a boost to

[Archived] Holiday Reading
salothsar replied to colin's topic in I Can't Believe It's Not Football Archive
Haven't read it myself but the wife has, said it was ok. It was passed to her by a friend who knows an Afghan lady. When asked about it she said it was realistic, except the happy bits. Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides is excellent so far. About a hermaphrodite, told in the first person. Story of his/her life and his/her family going back a few generations. Also really liked Life of Pi. Have read a couple of (I think the only 2 novels) Wally Lamb's. Very very good indead - one about a pair of twins and the other about an obese teenage girl. And you can't beat a bit of Trollope. -

Elbow are fantastic, one of the best bands around, they make beautiful passionate poetic music, I'm am going to see them on Sept 23rd at Cohesion Live festival at Platt Fields Manchester, it is going to be great because they are also amazing live. Were i around i probably would too. Only just bought it and only listened a couple of times but can tell it will grow and grow -

Those last 2 posts seem to agree with Latics fans but also seem to disagree with most of what I've read on here. -

Wigan fans say Roberts was dead lazy and were glad to see the back of him. I've only seen the Chelsea match and he seemed to put himself about. Same in the other matches so far ? -

From those that were there what should our starting line up be on Saturday ? Neil as centre half seems popular, but right back ? Just about a majority seem to prefer Reid in the centre. Strikers are pretty obvious I think. -

Been done to death but have to comment on Bellamy. Absolute pure unadulterated class. First goal has to be a contender for goal of the season. I hope and pray Hughes has enough clout with him to persuade him to stay one more year. After which he will move, with MH, to Manure. -

Biggest match of the season so far. If we win, it will spur (no pun intended) us on and I rekon we'll win the next 5, which we certainly should do, and be right up there with a great chance of champions league football next season. If we loose, it will break our spirit and we'll get a very small handfull of points from the next 5 or so games and just miss out on any European football next year. So its bound to be a draw -
The only reason this is getting so much talk is because it looks so bad. I've broken stuff and sliced the ends of fingers. Very very painful for a while, a couple of days later its not too bad and then you get on with it. Cruciate ligaments can take longer to heal and are more likely to end a career but don't look gruesome so don't get all this hot air. As someone else said - its not as if he's dead or anything. No big deal

It was a WHEN not an IF. Told you

Bugger. Yes 7th. I can't understand all those that say it is so obvious and likley that Stead wills core because he's up against Rovers. I know he will want to but he's wanted to all season. It was a lot more predictable that the horse would score because he's very good at it whereas Stead is bloody woeful
-
From the little I've seen of Stead this season he looks like he'll never score while he's got a hole in his arse. He's usless. Did us a great favour but was definitely a quarter season wonder

'Arry, dodgy cockney *anker wide boy, Rednapp' is my most hated man in football. How any Pompey fan has the nerve to support that team with that twitching thief in charge is beyond me. All the denials, all the moving up and down the road. He should be put down for the sake of all that is right and proper.
-
Some of the pesimism here is unbelievable. This is Sunderland we're talking about - the worst team in the history of the premier league. They have managed 10 bloody points all season. WHEN we beat them we will be 6th.
