  1. If he gets ten goals this season, I think @Mercer should buy a case of the blue nun for the board.
  2. I’ll wager you one bottle of chateauneuf du pape that Brererton will be a fixture of our first team eleven come March 2019. If he is bombed out on loan or to the reserves by this time next year, call it a Borelo.
  3. I’ll be skint in jan but fancy it
  4. Exactly why I mentioned ridiculous examples. Do you even read Mercer’s posts? Last week it was “he’s 19, Mbappe is only that age”...!
  5. Wouldn’t normally respond but since you’ve kept the personal stuff away, let’s have a new start. 1. The BBC said; “The 19-year-old could make his switch to Ewood Park permanent in January for a fee worth up to £7m.” Key caveats - “could” and “up to”. Compare that to the LET- if the journos don’t have their stories straight, the my assumption is it's un-disclosed and likely convoluted- ie dependent on performances, promotion and a sell on. Potentially even including his 3/4 year contract value in the figures. Well respected and articulate poster @JHRover suggested we’ve likely agreed half of that upfront, and I’d suggest it’s even less. 2. The idea of signing younger “projects” isn’t specific to our ownership, nor should it be seen as simply “capital building”. I imagine we’d be in a different place if they’d followed this protocol this from day one. Especially if we’d added lots of potential after relegation, as opposed to signing older players with questionable motives and huge salaries. My view is he has hardly had a chance to show his talents yet, but has impacted games recently upon arrival. I can’t say for certain that I think B.B. is a quality player, but to get to the opposite of that already, I’d have to assume our scouts are shocking, Forrest have an awful youth setup and the England technical team are also completely clueless. The reality for me is, I feel excited to see us implementing this type of strategy. Our young first team squad will develop, compare Nyambe to the last time in the league. Adding more potential and competition for places is key long term.
  6. Have a look at his appointment thread from the beginning and you will see why Blueboy and a couple of others will find fault in anything they can! Coincidentally - at least two hyper-critics constantly drag another poster for saying he’d give Coyle “10 games” yet they sit with baited breath ready for Tony to make a decision they can disagree with. ”Tony’s lost the plot...”
  7. So in a nutshell; you think: 1. Assumption that there is something nefarious or dodgy about the transfer and also assumption that the face value claim he was 7m, even though in 2018 that isn’t “extraordinary” and even though still there is little chance it was all upfront. 2. Your opinion of his abilities based on a handful of cameos and further assumption because we prefer to start a goal scoring number 10 upfront as opposed to others. No worries. I personally prefer not to assume the worst all the time, and to give people and players more time to show their value and skills. Each to their own.
  8. Using ridiculous examples, Jadon Sancho is ripping it up this season, he is pretty much Dortmund’s main man along with Reus keeping Pulisic out of the team and they’re top. 12 games, 6 assists, 4 goals, into the England setup and looking like potentially a future world class player. He’s only 18. They bought him 15 months ago for 8m and he barely made an impact for the first season only 17 apps mostly from bench. I’m guessing if a technical director shared your philosophies, he wouldn’t have been afforded the luxury of that time! I hear Burnley are looking at hiring one, can I suggest you get involved
  9. You’re welcome to that opinion but Jesus Christ I hope the backroom staff have a bit more patience!
  10. Mulgrew was on 14k last season with DG and Evans as top earners. No way they’ve been doubled up. Imbalanced recruitment, or just unrealistic expectations of our recruitment? You point me out a striker as good as DG at what he does, available on on a similar decent wage in this division. I don’t share the expectation that we could've replaced him, Conway, Mulgrew et al in one foul swoop with a limited budget. A similar example was hooked by the Sheff Weds manager at HT yesterday- Fletcher, who is reportedly on 40/50k a week.
  11. Agree - he is a key figure on the pitch and in the dressing room. I also think we have to use him sparingly - a long term injury or problem to him at the moment could derail us or force a complete change in setup.
  12. Football indeed does move on and I think you’re probably correct that Dyche will move on too - I just think he knows how to get the most out of a certain type of player, thus will overachieve with the likes of Burnley.
  13. Forgive me TS, I had forgot I can only think what TM tells me!
  14. Firstly - for how poor Sheffield Wednesday played, I can’t remember you praising Preston for doing a job on us or Wigan for roughing us up to their advantage. We played far far better yesterday, regardless of the opposition. Secondly - any fans who go to matches with a recently promoted team and “expects” them to win is watching the wrong sport. Obviously, I thought we could win but it’s not an expectation. That talk is saved for entitled united fans. The third paragraph about December could be good or bad? Well, you did it there mate - well done. Nobody can argue with that! We could win OR lose some games in December..! Finally; Conway staying around was at the behest of the manager. Yesterday proved to many who doubted that contract in the summer, Craig’s got quality to give. Actually surprised me his impact. You called it a risk in a must win (utter melodramatic btw) game, I’d say playing CC is the least risky choice of those wide options. How anyone could then go on to criticise the manager on a perceived team selection for the next game (bring Bennett/AA straight in)... it’s called stretching, Stinny.
  15. Even with their incredible revenue, they still couldn’t keep up this summer, losing many of their targets to championship clubs paying better wages. Ive always thought it was a bit of a lack of ambition from the ownership but then they have managed to upgrade the club, facilities and stadium - something our famous benefactor did before it would cost 100m+ to catch-up! Its embarrassing to see the stadium still partially empty after the last few years though. Finally - the job he’s done in 6 years, the idea of him being removed shouldn’t be even considered. Those fans in support of that must have short memories. If they are relegated, Dyche almost guarantees an immediate return too. Not many other managers do that. Trouble is - they’ve delusions of grandeur now the fans. They think Europe, top half and more Steven Defours are the norm!
  16. I’d much rather we fit him around how we intend to play, rather than including another striker and changing the system, on the sole basis he had to play him because we paid 7m for him! I think many believe we could’ve spent 7m upfront or signed a couple of players on 25/30k a week in other positions, thus sitting B.B. on the bench is effectively parking that investment... well thing is I’m yet to read that he is a top earner, and I doubt that we’ve spent anywhere near that upfront. The comparison on Jacob D was just age/experience. I imagine if Davenport hadn’t had a few bad injuries prior to joining us, he might’ve been more than 500k. Next youngest in the regular first 18, Nyambe - is 20. For anyone who thinks 7m could’ve been invested in two or three players, how much would you take for Nyambe? I also think it’s a bit soon to be saying the manager “doesn’t rate him in his natural position”. These kind of conclusions are insanely premature. I think if he “didn’t rate him” in anyway, he’d be turning out for Forest u23s.
  17. The comparison is they’re the same age! Both 19 year old and new signings. The expectation on ones shoulders is completely different due to cost. Not that I’m saying Brererton wasn’t expected to be a bit more “ready”- Davenport has also quite a few appearances in the championship too.
  18. I don’t get how adding an u19 striker to a position we needed depth is “a luxury we can’t afford”? I’d need to assume that B.B. earns a lot and we’ve actually paid most or all or the 7m, and that the quality winger and centre back on modest wages we could’ve had went ignored! Reality is that neither you nor me knows the actual reality of Brerertons tranfer, we don’t know if money was available for “Grabban” esq wages and we certainly don’t know if there’s anything left to improve in January. So assuming we spent 7m upfront, he’s on mega wages and we let Bauer et al go to sign him instead, I agree with you...!
  19. You’re telling me in the 5/6 appearances from the bench so far you haven’t seen any potential? He looks a both footed livewire to me - a player who can run at defences with ease. Lots more to prove though eh!
  20. I’m quite sure BB’s fee won’t be instrumental in Budget Mourinhos promotion chase! As for our future? It’s nice to have that kind of potential isn’t it!
  21. Reminded us today what the difference is when you’ve a club with an owner who is questionable - the difference a quality operator and classy manager can make. On paper - Sheff Weds have good players, but a questionable appointment and non-experienced manager - you’ve literally no chance. I almost felt sorry for them complaining and chanting, but then I remember we had years of it. In Tony I trust!
  22. He is on the periphery. I’d be more concerned if we’d shelled out that “alleged” cost for him to be in the same spot as Davenport (also 19!)
  23. Forget the price. He’s the youngest and newest member of this squad. It’s exciting to have the luxury of his potential but let’s not let his price determine his usage.
  24. Seriously - at 70 minutes today, who are you taking off? I would’ve agreed but I spent nearly 25 minutes trying to work out who I’d pull! I imagine the discussion on the bench was similar.
