  1. He played a few games for Clitheroe last season, apparently had a fantastic match away at Droylsden.
  2. £10m Arma and Watford, was the rumour I heard.

Hi Josh J*B might there be room in here for your Granddad? A keen and regular supporter of Rovers over the years, standing on the Riverside, passing the baton to me and then onto you & Mat. His favourite player was Dougie, a wizzard on the ball he'd say. Sadly passed away last Thursday and will be much missed by his loved family.
  4. I just hope our team show a bit more passion and desire for a derby match, it just feels in recent years this has been lacking, with our local rivals being far more 'up' for the game than us.
  5. Just a brief comment on the pie sellers. My mate used to do this, either walking round the perimeter or even in one of the pie outlets. On one such occasion, late 70s, Rovers were playing Chelsea in a cup match I think, now Chelsea back then had quite a following with a rough element looking to cause trouble. My mate and another vendor were in the Darwen End food shack, when the Chelsea lot decided to cause trouble and storm the hut, said pal fearing for his life had to make a sharp exit, via the emergency hatch onto the roof!
  6. Agree with the Plymouth game, I too have a similar memory. I used to take a collapseable canvas stool which I would place at the front of the Riverside stand which I would stand on, so I could see over the wall, at around the same time whereby previously we'd sit on the wall, as a bobby would saunter along pitchside and tell you to get off the wall. So there I am stood on this canvas stool when our third goal went in, the ground erupted, I jumped up and down on my stool, with the canvass giving way resulting in me ending up in a heap at base of the Riverside wall!
  7. Sorry, PNE are a better team? Ok they're getting better results than us presently, yet have they spent more on transfers and on players since Neil and Mowbray have been in office? One has used funds on more of the same potential unproven youngsters up front, whilst forgetting that 'defenders are coming' for a team that leaked goals in abundance last season. Neil targeted an experienced highly regarded lower league defender and nicked him from under Mowbray's nose! ToMo is not helping himself at present, especially so with such ridiculous comments. I can see the new style of play this season, you can see it and view the possession statistics, which this may well be the way forward, yet somewhere along the line someone (ultimately him as the buck stops with him) has been negligent on setting this team up to defend. Perhaps he has a residual blind spot on small non aggressive nippy attackers, coming in from the wings or midfield and running around him when he was a big lump of a centre half?
  8. Yes I agree that the correct decision was reached. However it was the inordinate length of time for them to discuss the incident and then make the decision. I was posing the question as to whether there might have been any outside (from the on-field officials) input? Especially so given the apparent movement to their earpieces, as if listening. "Certain there was no other dialogue between the other officials", really how do we know this? We know that the officials are mic'd up, though who is involved in the conversations? If neither the AR nor the referee were certain and actually saw Dack's touch, then surely the goal should have stood, the officials can only give something they've actually seen. Might the discussion have been....AR to ref "I couldn't tell if Dack touched the ball, if he did he was offside?", ref in reply either "yes he did" = offside", or "no he didn't" = goal, or "I couldn't or didn't see" = goal. How long does that take, seconds? Certainly not the length of time it took, perhaps I am just a suspicious sod, I too like things being done by the book, yet also are we all sure/aware of what the book is? VAR by the back door?
  9. Putting aside my allegiance, might I ask a question which I genuinely am confused and am unsure about, concerning the disallowed goal on Saturday? I might have missed something as these days I don't follow every law change and/or different interpretation of the laws by referees/authorities. VAR is only applicable in England to the EPL and doesn't apply to the EFL and championship? The referee's decision is final. The referee is aided by 'assistant referees'. Yet who are these assistants? Two assistants referees running the line, plus a fourth official by the dugout. Then in the EPL there is the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), but does not apply to the Championship. Then finally a fifth assistant, who I think has only the limited task of being available in case of injuries to any of the above, they used to have access to the TV footage of the match, but have never been permitted to advise the on field officials, despite famously the 2006 World Cup final and Zidane being sent off. So Saturday's incident... the ball went out of play when it went into Luton's net, the assistant referee did not raise his flag, nor did the referee blow his whistle and point for a goal or for an offside. The fourth official was busy on the sidelines with both sets of dugouts, he was certainly not reviewing any footage. The ball was retrieved from the net and placed on the centre spot to restart the game, so what followed was a minimum of two minutes before the awarding by the referee of offside. This was after the referee was speaking to his assistant, yet also in addition they both were obviously receiving instructions in their earpieces, which ultimately no doubt led to the decision. As a supporter on the ground I could only in retrospect view the footage and can see that it was indeed offside. It is seemingly widely thought that the use of technology to assist with the correct decisions being made are desirable, despite teething problems with VAR and the argued impact on such delays these VAR decisions might take, besides also the impact on the spectacle. My confusion is...if indeed the officials within the EFL Championship are not in receipt of external support, either via VAR or perhaps even a 5th official, then what was occurring between the referee. his assistants and whomever else they were both obviously receiving information into their earpieces?
  10. Immensely frustrating afternoon at Ewood. I’ve seen Rovers now facing two promoted teams at home who I doubt will not finish in the top half of the table, with it feeling as though in total they’ve had four attempts on target and scored them all, with them being fairly soft conceded. Frustrated at big Sam Gallagher, I know it’s unfair to compare a young Alan Shearer (he’d do worse than watch a few videos), yet he needs to attack the ball when it enters the box, seems content to look to pick up the second ball. Frustrated at managers lack of imagination chasing the game, yes great get Samuel on, yet he ends up at right back/wing back. Two up top, downing on wing, Dack with Travis in midfield? Armstrong’s finishing could be better, blazing high and wide to the near post, not good.
  11. Briefly, as all of Saturday's match have been minutely scrutinised and agonised over, with all the rights and wrongs and short comings of various players. Yet what it comes down to at the end of the day is poor coaching and management. The continued failure to get to grips with our dire defensive attitude will cost Rovers and should cost those in charge their posts. Build a solid platform and spine, then add creativity. Conceding soft goals has been indicative of this regime, effectively two goals per match, square pegs or for that matter broken pegs, or not fit for purpose pegs, whilst continuing unabashed is madness. This requires immediate attention to put right, as any new solutions won't turn this around overnight, the entire squad appear bereft of appreciating danger. Finally two quick comments...1) Darragh stop punting aimless balls out wide/out of play, actually look for a simple short pass to either Johnson, Downing, Travis. 2) What has Nyambe done so wrong to not be first pick at right back from this collection of players?
  12. Some might want to undertake some homework before Saturday? https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48382254
  13. Weekend events... I think that we all must be aware these days of players feigning injury as part of any preconceived thought process, be it; time wasting, getting another player carded, simulation in order to gain an advantage and awarded a foul, this is coached and part and parcel of the game. However what I abhor is when such players, also as part of this also scream in agony, as though they are seriously injured. This is just an embarrassment and such players need bringing to book, starting with their union taking a lead. We saw how Maddison in effect had Maitland-Niles sent off. We had a similar incident against Derby in front of the Riverside where I sit, when I think it was Mount likewise screamed in supposed agony, with the briefest if any of any contact. I took the opportunity of shouting to him, what an embarrassment he was. For certain, when a player does incur a serious injury, they seldom scream, or roll around on the floor, referees need to wise up to this. A similar team this season I witnessed were Villa, so it comes as no surprise that they were involved in yesterday's incident at Leeds. The authorities need to give a timely remember that it's the referee who decides whether to halt play, not the players, who would do well to remember one of the first things they should have learnt when they began playing football...play to the whistle! Another gripe of many supporters when the ball is kicked out, when play has not been halted by the officials. Finally, I feel very sorry for Bolton Wanderers, shame on the football authorities, the EFL, the FA, the Premier League, all hang your heads in shame for not addressing fit and proper rules, allowing such events to occur. Their business model is flawed without them taking ownership of their product, start by franchising out to clubs their positions in their leagues, with cast iron regulations to follow, whereby if as can be seen with Anderson and Bassini, they do not comply and are not fit, then their franchise is removed and reappointed to deserving custodians.
  14. How about a Wes Morgan type defender and leader? Though at age 35 might only get one season out of him, but in that Kevin Moran/Tony Gale mould. No idea how long he's got left on his Leicester contract.
  15. Yes it is a vital summer for Rovers and especially TM. To be honest I am unsure if Tony has the stomach for the necessary alterations, as it will mean addressing moving on some of his more experienced and perhaps more vocal dressing room players, which with the fantastic work on the team spirit he has engendered could have consequences. Similarly with his coaching staff, there are obvious inadequacies in certain departments, from which at times he might have felt disappointed at their combined contributions. There could and should be some very tough decisions to be made in his playing AND coaching staff. As for the glut of youngsters ready to be promoted, I personally am slightly concerned as to TM's ability and inclination to be the one to do so. If looking at his past record here, he's been more prone to do so as a last resort when we've had an injury crisis, rather than playing the kids and entrusting them. As an aside and perhaps to give some balance on the midfield conundrum. Let's not forget the very good form Corry started the season with. Plus the best midfield combinations have also included the good sense in a pairing, for one to drop when their partner makes a forage forwards. This happened on numerous occasions on Tuesday with Travis and Reed interchanging, plus even Rothwell made some very telling interceptions and tracked back very well, far better than Armstrong does.
  16. I'd prefer to think that Rovers might yet again become a football club with integrity/honesty, I'll cling onto this hope. Which includes factoring in if someone has honestly endeavoured to turn around a metaphorical oil tanker that was already taking in water and might perhaps be part way through steering a path to calmer waters, then I'd be prepared to extend them some goodwill, if they hit a mid season squall. This also includes not changing the manager and/or management every twelve months, we've been there, which besides costing a fortune in paying out contracts when monies would be better spent on improving the player squad, I would suggest that this footballing model for a Championship club is bust. I'm kicking around the thought that it might be the case that it's TM perhaps, who hasn't got the stomach to reinvigorate and reinvent the team to the next level, yet might be prepared to stick around in support of a younger potentially talented coach. This might signify a football club with integrity and decent values. If opinions differ then which is BS?
  17. I think TM has some decisions to make at the end of this season, which he might very well be mulling over presently, after the couple of months we've just had. He's done a fine job in developing a team spirit and togetherness, alongside recovering the position with some of the fan base; honesty, trustworthiness, plain speaking. Especially so after the craziness which went before, with owners, agents, management both footballing and also non footballing staff, players and god knows who else. So for his achievements in this and helping to bring even a modicum of any feel good back, then fair play to him. He inherited an underachieving supposed Championship squad, brought some respect and players playing for the badge, who got us promotion from League 1. As a man manager he's done well, he got the older experienced players on board who bought into his thinking. It's the coaching though that worries me and to be frank did so last season to. Fitness, goalkeeping, 1st team coaches and even the scouting network. Plus also a further slight concern involves one thing that he has inherited and which in theory he should have going in his favour, namely a successful academy, churning out players capable of stepping up to the level we are currently, Championship. Is he fully on board with the youngsters, happy to blood them and give them the necessary next stepping stone, or does he revert to the safety of playing 'old heads'? Anyway, he should by now have realised that his reliance upon some of his squad, which are obviously not up to the Championship, need moving on. This might very well impact on the team spirit, with perhaps some of these players being strong personalities within the dressing room. This could be quite challenging for him, especially finding their replacements with the requisite experience and attitudes from elsewhere who can contribute to progressing the 1st team. The prospect and thought of this task may well at TMs point in his life and career, be too much and daunting. My suggestion, would be to definitely keep him involved at the club in some capacity, be it a Director of Football role or whatever, he warrants some recognition of his achievements. However I'd be more inclined to promote and appoint Damien Johnson into the position of First Team Coach/Manager, with TM still being around to lean on. Hopefully a younger more vibrant coach with new ideas might be the way forward? My only hesitation would be as previously with Bowyer as to whether academy or development coaches can alter their mindset, away from the longer term (2 years plus), to more short term success and results. Just a few musings. ?
  18. Actually one last point...square pegs in round holes, should be the epitaph for TM's tenure. Play your best players in their best positions.
  19. All the signings of number 10s have come home to roost, alongside the neglect of providing adequate defensive cover, together with his blindness for supposedly safer experienced players. PNE's two centre halves bossed Saturday's match and easily dealt with anything that came their way, if only we had anything remotely similar. I expect Conway to be added at the expense of Armstrong, to leave our midfield tomorrow at home to a team lower down the league to us as being...Bennett, Evans, Smallwood, Conway. Whereas it should be; Chapman, Rothwell, Travis & Armstrong. Rest Dack and play Nuttall up top with DG. Defense:- Nyambe, plus any youngsters from the u23s. Allowing Downing, Wharton to go out on loan, plus not addressing the lack of a traditional no nonsense defender (not an adapted midfield player) has been a mega mistake. Lenahan, Mulgrew, Rodwell are all injury prone with TM placing all his trust that they'd get by. Ps if that referee ever appears at Ewood again, I might very well self combust! Rant over.
  20. Problem stems from not having any experienced centre halves, at least one who has has consistently played at or above this level in this pivotal position for a number of seasons. It's all well and good playing converted midfield players, but the team takes their position on the pitch from one stand out centre half, who gets the defence on a flat back line and further up the field, rather than entrenched on our own 18 yard box. A centre half not unlike Tony Mowbray.
  21. Delighted that we got all three points yesterday, hopefully also a few days on from our nightmares in Yorkshire, most folk might have calmed down a bit too? Don't get me wrong, I was as livid as the next person with the graft the team had undertaken, but then only to self implode late on. Though it might serve at times to have a period of reflection before calling for wholesale changes in management. I'm sure TM was as bemused and angry as the supporters, but we all could do to consider that Rovers are most definitely a work in progress after the madness which has befallen us for 6/7 years now, but surely TM has been the best thing to have come our way now since? Admittedly overly cautious at times, which can be frustrating, yet he has engineered a team spirit and togetherness amongst a set of players we've not seen for quite some time, yes they have their limitations, but surely the way forward is to look to make the continual improvements in quality which he's stated he'd like. Likewise I'm sure TM might be asking questions of his back room team, with the technical and fitness coaches, as to whether these instances are fixable and to crack on to stop them reoccurring. Surely to goodness though, let's not give our owners any thoughts as to making any rash decisions, we've been there and it wasn't very pleasant.
  22. Just about dried off and am now warm enough to add my two penneth, for what it's worth... Save for a crazy five minutes, Saturday was a game whereby we were in total control, always a risk with younger players that they might do something daft, hopefully they might learn soon, regrettably whenever we do anything silly, we are getting punished, whereby in League One not quite so. Perhaps we shouldn't be so hard on them, as they too were obviously disappointed and are hurting equally if not more so. I am hopeful that Raya, Bell, Nyambe, Lenihan, Armstrong, Brereton might all look back on Saturday and take out the positives. We do have experience in Mulgrew, Williams, Evans, Conway, Bennett, Graham, I'd like to add Smallwood to this group, but he just is too impetuous himself at times and not the most level headed, he managed to give the ball away far too often in the first half, whereas Evans I thought was most accomplished once again, I might have moved Reed from out wide into the middle, taking Richie off, hindsight... Just on losing possession, Lenihan needs to stop those long diagonal balls, invariably possession is lost, give the ball to Charlie or Corry. Matches like Saturday when we should be closing matches out, we really missed Conway and Bennett, the protection they provide to our young full backs, even if it's just making themselves available to take a ball off them when they are under pressure is immense. As for Ben, it just didn't happen for the lad when he came on, with the ball no longer sticking up top, perhaps we should not underestimate the difficulty in him making an impact into a game midway through the match? His confidence doesn't look great, I'd have been tempted to say perhaps start with him and see if this makes any difference, as he no doubt does ability, yet we've not seen it, he really could do with him shinning a mishit in somehow.
  23. It IS his agent making it up and Spurs have nicely asked Dack's agent to stop it.
  24. No idea, sports journalist are all much the same and will gladly print snippets such as this, but it is definitely Dack's agent talking this Spurs story up, for obvious reasons.
  25. Spurs are not interested in Bradley, plus they've told his agent to stop pushing it, that's the 'someone'!
