Colin, that's better than Steve and Mark Waugh, in India, they're known as the (and this is how it's pronounced) the "Wog" brothers. -
[Archived] Club Up For Sale?
dave birch replied to Florida Rover's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Den, the Trustees would have to abide by the what the deed says. If they stray too far, then they leave themselves open for criticism. As a general rule, trust deeds like this will be water tight, very specific in what they do and don't do. I doubt that putting say 5mill into the rovers over the past 10 years has made much of a dent in the capital of the trust. I don't know how many of you follow your super (pension schemes), but mine has rocketed over the past few years, and that's from the pittance I have in it. Now, imagine the leverage you would have with millions in it? If it hasn't doubled or thereabouts in the last four years or so, I would be surprised. -
[Archived] Club Up For Sale?

Any club will be for sale if the right amount of dosh is put up. My thinking is this: These journos know as much as you or I as to the contents of the trust deed. I doubt that any of the trustees would have opened up to a journo. Den, if the deed says hang on to the club for at least 20 years, then that's what will happen. Having said that, there maybe a clause that says "sell if the club finishes in the top 5 ". You can bet your life that Jack would have put one thing in the deed, and that would be to put his family first. I don't know what philipl and the rest think, but you can be assured that the size of the trust would have grown enormously over the past three or so years. -

FR, we've never been media favourites, and some rags take great delight in finding negative things to say about us. The only thing we fans can do is wait and see. -

Bellers was subbed after 78 minutes, no reports of him being injured. I think it's our turn at WHL. A convincing win the the Rovers. -

The info in that artcle may well be true about the losses, but not about the family wanting to sell. It's what the trust deed says that's the important thing. If that stipulates that the Rovers cannot be sold, then that's that. If it says that it can only be sold after 10/15/20 years,There's not a lot the family can do, they are only the beneficiaries of the trust as, it seems, are the Rovers. Anything written about the trust, including my words, can only be conjecture. The only way to find out is to read the deed. As for ecouraging people to attend, it could make them more despondent about the Rovers future. -
And, if the person receiving the "present" of six games thinks, "hey, this is good fun. I want to come more next time round. I might bring a mate." Potential sale, potential double sale, full year. Alan75, no doubt the club is doing a lot, but is it focused right, is it maximising its efforts to get those bums on seats that Hughes wants to get off seats?
-
I've got a bit more time to flesh this one out. The ultimate package should be a full season ticket, this should have the greatest benefit, for obvious reasons. At about half way through the season, you get the half season ticket, reduced benefit. After a month or so (ie late Feb/early March), (and this is what I understand Theno to be getting at) there should be a facility to get a bundle of, say 6 or 7 games for the remainder of the season. The benefit should not be greater (%age wise) than that of a half or full season ticket. With the "doubling of tickets, I can't see why that shouldn't work. If you double a Manu ticket with say, Sunderland. In fact the club could double tickets with any teams.
-
Why should the ST be undermined by bundling? If the price of the bundled tickets is set at or just below the normal "buy on the day" price, then there's got to be profit. Where's the profit in not selling them at all? Is it better to have someone pay 13quid for a seat than not have the 13 at all, and if someone is prepared to pay 30quid per match for a six ticket bundle, then the Rovers should be snapping their hand off?
-
Alan75, I'm not talking about discounting tickets, I'm talking about buying tickets for a "bundle" of matches. What I'm saying is, if people want to gaurantee tickets for matches where tickets will be in short supply, buy another ticket for a low category game, and you're in. That way the Rovers have sold two tickets as opposed to one
-
Tris, don't you think that it's about being flexible enough to accommodate another customer? Everyone bangs on about losing support, here's an opportunity to redress some of that loss, and they go and blow it. Doesn't make sense to me.
-
Shaddy, I think the fact that the Rovers didn't try to find a solution smacks of an amateur organisation unable to do something for a supporter.
-
How about selling tickets in pairs, or threes? You match, say Manu or Chelsea tickets, with Sunderland, or Portsmouth, you have to buy both to get the Manu /Chelsea ticket. Obviously, they would have to be on sale upto the first home game of the double ticket, then sold as per normal. I realise there are problems with it, but put it up as an idea to be discussed.... As for the situation Theno found himself in, there can only be one word to describe it: "gobsmacked". I could understand if the Rovers didn't need the custom.

Nice insight, QOTSA. I suppose as far as Proudfoot was concerned there's no news to be had by praising the Rovers for their performance. More's the pity that Hughes' extraction of the apology was not broadcast. It would have made for entertainting TV. -

Thank you for that reply Al, I liked it and your choice of wine, next time you're down under, give me a yell, we'll tuck into some good food, washed down with good reds. The sweet will be the Rovers doing the gooners 2-1 in a closely fought game. -

Having seen Bert in many games for Feyenoord and Australia, I'm of the opinion that he's playing in a pretty unbalanced side and has been doing so for a few years now. Whether he's playing to far forward or what, I'm not sure, but there's no "counterbalance" on the left. When he was signed, I was savouring the thought of him on the right, Duff on the left and Tugs in the middle spraying passes left, right and centre. Bert is a bloke that has sat many a good defender on their arses. Certainly he hasn't shown it at Ewood on a consistent basis, and, to my mind the blame has to go with GS. He wasn't developed to his potential under GS, and I think that it hasn't improved under Hughes. Give Bert the ball, just behind the midfield, to run on to let him run at the defence, that's what he's good at. -

I had to suffer having drinks with an Everton supporter yesterday. Hopefully this is just a minor blip, and things get back on track with the mackems. Onepost, I think its more to with rabbits than flaccid appendages -
Shame about Johnny Carey. Effing scouse plunderers.

Bryan, by all means talk about him, but give him some due, he did more than others, but they get stuff all for putting us in the mire. At least he got us out. And yes, it is big news that he got sacked, but we've had this constant bile thrown at someone who hadn't been at Ewood for better than a year. I wish posters would talk about some of the Managers we've had, rather than someone that some posters seem to have a pathalogical hate for.

Indeed, Bryan. When I think of RFW. It reminds me of the Paul Simon track....... "Slip slidin away, slip slidin away, The nearer your destination, the more you're slip slidin away" -
Oscar, firstly, you won't find me complaining about criticism of posters, just ask any of the mods. I have never, NEVER complained about anyone, even when they got personal. secondly, we had a person that kept banging on with the same tune, he got banned. Thirdly, had some of the people that posted on this topic had not posted elsewere, then, I'm sure, the mods would have intervened. Now, I'm sure you're bright enough to see that all of my posts on this subject were focussed on those that seemed to be paranoid about Souness. Finally, this thread should have died a death over twelve months ago. No one belts on about Kidd, or Hodgson, or Harford. They, for all their efforts, did less than Souness. It's just that some have this thing about GS, or maybe they weren't around prior to his tenure. A Football manager is going to fail sometime, it maybe as Souness did at Newcastle, or the bloke may just kark it over his desk. Whichever way it happens, time catches up with everyone. I would still buy GS a drink for what he did for the Rovers. "edit" I think Waggy's final sentence sums it up well.

Indeed, Neill, and tsnuf, if you listen to the interview with Hughes, he's full of praise for Kuqi. I think that Sparky wanted Bentley to be "just off" Kuqi for those balls that go anywhere.
-
Indeed, theno, but that's an aspect to his career at the rovers that hasn't been brought up. The point still remains, that some on the boards forget the "good" part of his history with us.
