[Archived] So Are You Involved In The World Cup?
dave birch replied to Bobby G's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
There isn't a real "group of death" this time is there. All the seeds have got reasonable groups and should go through. -
I'm sorry, Jan, I can't think of anything that could be good for Scottish Football. It's all reflected in their National team.........
-
Whatever he does, whatever he says, there is one indisputable fact: He remains a tosser who couldn't hack it in the big league. Had he said, "I'm unhappy, I want to return to Rangers" I'd have had some respect for him, but he engineered a move. After all the Rovers did for him following his injury, what he did made him the joke that he is. If I ever came face to face with the Scottish prat, he'd cop a spray from me (and that's not spitting at him). He's destined to play in a second rate league for the rest of his days.

[Archived] Rovers 0-2 Everton
dave birch replied to 1864roverite's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
I've got a mate who's a big Everton fan, so I hope I can call round his place on Monday evening and say (as I usuallydo) "What happened to Everton". Let's hope that it's a big win to the Rovers. Waggy, you're not the shorthouse behind the junior in the Rovers shirt, are you -
Not so sure about that FLB. Back in the 1980's a couple of Aussie guys, Barlow and Chambers, were executed in Malaysia when caught trying get heroin (I think) into Australia.
-
OK Bob, maybe I'm going over the top a little. Vinjay would only go into orgasmic ecstacy if one of the Walkers had been sold and the money put into the transfer fund. BUT we should forget about Souness. He is gorne.
-
Why are you guys soooo obsessed by Souness? He's gone, and with me forgotten. Yes, he stuffed up, now he's stuffing up somewhere else. It seems you've all taken in a little bit of Jan.
-
Oh no, FLB, he was of Vietnamese stock. His mother got out after the American war and eventually to Australia. A lot of Australians are supporting him. It's not that he's Aussie, it's the hanging bit that upsets 47% of Australians. He's dead now, he took his risk, he failed. edit: It would not matter where he came from, be it England/Australia/US, I reckon the Singaporese would hang them, Full stop.
-
FLB, the story behind this is quite sad really. I think I've got it right. The guy (a twin) was born in a refugee camp in Thailand. With his family they came to live in Australia. Struggled, as lots of refugees do, grew up etc etc. Anyway, his twin brother gets into gambling problems. Van Nguyen (the guy hanged) decides to help his brother out by becoming a mule, only to get caught in Singapore. He wasn't a user or a long term dealer as far as I know. How would his brother feel now?
-
That won't hold for much in Indonesia, though SAR. From the photo's of them with the drugs taped around their waists is probably enough evidence to ensure their guilt. It's what happens when sentence is pronounced.
-
Well, Van Nguyen has been executed. Let it be an example to anyone who thinks they might get away with importing misery. I only have two problems with his execution: 1. It's never the Mr Bigs that get caught and sentenced. 2. It won't stop anyone trying to import drugs in the future. I wonder what's in store for the "Bali nine" now?
-
FLB, it's not because he's a convicted drug smuggler, it's because he's being put to death. There are a number of people who think that hanging this guy is barbaric, and that no civilised state should be invovled in capital punishment. SAR's stats sum up the feeling of the country

Reactions a bit slow then Sambo?

[Archived] Tough Fixtures Ahead
dave birch replied to philipl's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
The only incentive that I can see is that the Rovers become less of a drain on the Trust. I agree entirely with philipl, the Trust is private and anyone outside of the Trustees is privvy to nothing. -
Den. There will come a time, where the Trustees will wind up the Trust, sell all the assets, pay off all the debts (of the trust) and distribute the remainder to the beneficiaries. I doubt that the Rovers would be a beneficiary. If I were the spokesman for the trust, the answer to any question regarding the Rovers would be that it is being "looked after" in term of the trust deed. Does anyone know whether the Trust deed is "public knowledge" and whether it can be inspected?
-
Den, Rovers fans may have a right to know about the Trust's involvement in the Rovers, but that is about as far as it goes. In fact, we known that they have an involvement. What more do you need to know? They don't have any right to know how the Trust wants to exercise their invovlement either by direction or monetary. Suffice to say, they are carrying out the wishes of the benefactor of the trust. Personally, I think we should be grateful that Jack Walker became the Rovers Patron and included them in his will. The Rovers are possibly the only club in the League that receives such a large sum from the forethought af a wealthy fan. Had Uncle Jack not thought ahead, the Rovers would be floundering now.
-
Vinjay, to say you are this sites number one plonker would be an understatement. You want someone to throw their hard earned into the black hole that football is. Well, Vinjay, show us the way, start with your three bob...... You clearly have no understanding of finance or business or football. All I can suggest is, go back to school and start all over again.

[Archived] Blackburn Rovers Independent Supporters Asscn
dave birch replied to Paul's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Thanks for the prompt reply, Paul. I don't think that too many on this (or any other board) would be aware of your discussions with Tris. So his points seem to be fairly reasonable to someone new to the discussion. His reaction may have been over the top, but your response cleared the air in that respect. As for point 2, is it not a little early to be joining FSF? Shouldn't BRISA learn to walk, before it starts running with the more established groups? Let BRISA find it's own agenda, then join, and then present the issues which affect our team the most. -

Tris has a very good point here. Could someone answer two questions: 1. Why was Tris excluded, as described above? 2. Has there been a vote to send someone to the FSF? For BRISA to work, it has to have the confidence of the members, and more importantly, potential members. It cannot be allowed to become an exclusive club. -
It is ndeed a good idea, one that should be followed up, as is promoting the club overseas.
-
It goes further than that, Colin. Now all those that support the English national Football team, do you send off your cheque when you can't attend the matches? What about all those new found cricket supporters? Sent off your contribution yet? If any sport needs financial assistance it's cricket. Then there's the Rugby, and the Netball........ and what about the tennis..... a never ending list. On this basis, if you don't attend every single match, home and away, then you're a part time supporter deserving of the contempt of those that manage to see the Rover play in every match.
-
Typical of your ilk. Do as I say, not as I do. You expect those overseas to do something that you're not prepared to do. Must be journalistic logic.
-
I can't understand why they didn't play it in Port Stanley?
-
philipl, wasn't that article written by another person expressing his opinion, just as those on these boards are doing? I must admit I chuckled at the quote from the Psychotherapist about whatever drug now being "unfashionable". Says it all, really.
