  1. sorry to quote you Ian, but your "typo" made me laugh. We could start with Dickov
  2. Fairy Nuff, LeC. It wasn't my thought that that the Asian population be given discounted tickets week in week out. Just that a season ticket holder could buy one discounted ticket to take someone new to a game. I suppose that things like this have happened in the past. As I said, just a thought.....
  3. I trust, Le Chuck, that you will be presenting some kind of solution to getting lots of the ethnic population of Blackburn into Ewood Park on matchdays? Mine was no more than a thought. One day someone will hit on an idea that the club will pick up on and make a success out of it.
  4. To stay with the "Asian" theme.... as some of you have Asian mates/work mates etc, why doesn't the club allow you to buy a discounted ticket for your Asian mate. If they enjoy themselves, the word will spread..... OK, there are some problems, but nothing that can't be overcome.
  5. That, FR, is a pretty good summation of football since the early '50s to date. Something that should be sent to the FA.
  6. My thoughts too, Philipl. If we play in their faces, give them no room, we could snatch a point. We are probably one of the fitter teams in the prem, so we could go the distance despite being run around.
  7. I think, Scotty, we look to how teams are going to approach us, especcially at home, so a "slow" or "nervous" start would be the norm. I'm glad that we can play crap and win, for it was for to long that we seemed to play crap and loose.
  8. It may not be very caring, but it may be very true. It may be very confrontational, and a lie to the problems of the society that you live in.
  9. You're possibly rigth there USA, but how many fans reallyappreciate the skill of an opposition player. My guess is they'd rather scream abuse at him. I remember well the days we used to change ends, the jibes, etc. I aso remember knives at throats (it happened to me); to be honest, I'd go along with FR, it was football then, it was just a sport rather than being some kind of confrontational contest that meant bragging rights were up 'road, until the next meeting (if that occurred).
  10. I get it T4E, the next time I'm at Ewood, I have to bring a piece of 4"X 2", is that right? It might get to the point even quicker
  11. Just to add something else to the debate. This, courtesy of the ABC (Australia) and Reuters. Greenland icecap thickens despite warming Greenland's icecap has thickened slightly in recent years despite wide predictions of a thaw triggered by global warming, a team of scientists says. The 3,000-metre thick icecap is a key concern in debates about climate change because a total melt would raise world sea levels by about seven metres. Satellite measurements showed that more snow was falling and thickening the icecap, especially at high altitudes, according to the report in the journal Science. Glaciers at sea level have been retreating fast because of a warming climate, making many other scientists believe the entire icecap was thinning. "The overall ice thickness changes are ... approximately plus 5 cms a year or 54 cms over 11 years," according to the experts at Norwegian, Russian and US institutes led by Ola Johannessen at the Mohn Sverdrup centre for Global Ocean Studies and Operational Oceanography in Norway. However, they said that the thickening seemed consistent with theories of global warming, blamed by most experts on a build-up of heat-trapping gases from burning fossil fuels in power plants, factories and cars. Warmer air, even if it is still below freezing, can carry more moisture. That extra moisture falls as snow below 0 degrees Celsius. The scientists said that the thickening of the icecap might be offset by a melting of glaciers around the fringes of Greenland. Satellite data was not good enough to measure the melt nearer sea level. Most models of global warming indicate that the Greenland ice might melt within thousands of years if warming continues. Oceans would rise by about 70 metres if the far bigger icecap on Antarctica melted along with Greenland. Antarctica's vast size acts as a deep freeze likely to slow any melt of the southern continent. The panel that advises the United Nations has predicted that global sea levels might rise by almost a metre by 2100 because of a warming climate. Such a rise would swamp low-lying Pacific islands and warming could trigger more hurricanes, droughts, spread deserts and drive thousands of species to extinction. -Reuters
  12. Gareth, there is one legal "safe injecting room" in Sydney. It does not supply drugs, they have to be bought (which is illegal) and brought to the room. There are doctors and nurses available if there is a problem. There are no questions asked. All they want to do is reduce deaths by overdose. To that end, it has been successful.
  13. Shaddy, I'm not so sure about your comments. I have the feeling that the salary cap is legal. Can't quite put my finger on it but fairly sure. Don't the AFL have a similar thing. The cap does have a great effect in equalising the comp, it makes for some interesting and exciting results.
  14. If we are at the top of a "warming trend", then we'd better stock up on longjohns and other thermals. Now, there's an opportunity for a smart young fellow to corner the market
  15. I think of him as the anonymous member these days, as he doesn't want to be seen slumming it with those that are "listed". Onya JD
  16. Looking at the graph presented by pg, I would have thought that we were in for a massive reduction in temperature rather than an increasing one. As Co2 levels increased (with a lag following an increase in Temp) the temperature dropped, resulting in a reduction in Co2. The only unknown at the moment, is, will the Co2 levels fall?
  17. It's an RAF conspiracy..... Is this a way to blame Tom (who has been absent for sometime) for this blight of squirrels?
  18. Some 10-80 bait will get rid of them......... and anything else that happens to sample it
  19. At last it's been said..... CLB, you have my never ending admiration for making such a statement. Hallelujah does this mean that people will type, look, check and THEN post? btw wags, drop an "o" now and then
  20. On a recent visit to Hong Kong, I was told that Kowloon is the most densely populated place on earth. I couldn't get over the number of Indians trying to sell me a suit or a shirt.
  21. Theno, My understanding of the "one child" policy is that it only applies to one indiginous group of the many populating the PRC. Perhaps FLB can enlighten us.
  22. FLB, if the team is winning, the fans will turn up. In the NRL, St George/ Illawarra Rugby League team plays at two stadiums on (generally) alternate home games. They finished 2nd after the home and away rounds with increased crowds on previous seasons.
  23. S S 9 and Kremmin have said most of what I'm thinking. A salary cap is definitely the way to go. If a club can't fit someone in under the cap, then that player has to go. It's a system that works well in the NRL and the AFL.With the NRL, those players that were priced out have gone overseas. The comp has been the closest in years with the bottom club scoring more points than any other team finishing bottom in the history of the game. Imagine three or four rounds to go, with half a dozen teams still in with a chance of winning the premiership........... Pity they couldn't fit in a "draft" system in there as well.....
  24. Now, Drog, my good Mrs is a Psychologist of many years standing, well respected by her peers and fellow prfessionals, would you like her to tell you why I stay up half the night, spend loads at the rovers shop, in my quest to support the Rovers? You remember me, Theno, I live the other side of the world. What do you want me to do, stop "supporting" them. Stop following football, perhaps. When that happens across the world with "fans" like me, the EPL will start to wither and (I was going to say die), but it won't, it will simply be less than the powerhouse that it is now. It's a League that needs world wide support, quite simply it brings money in to support the team that you purport to follow. Oh, and I went to SMC Blackburn (as there are a few SMC's around England) Now, if you want an answer from my Mrs, send the English equivalent of $150 for the first hours consultation.
