Looking back on the match, one thing hasn't been mentioned. I don't remember the last time we had a one goal lead in the waning moments of a game and weren't sitting back, a la Svennis, holding off a bombardment. Sounds like we were still taking it to them and then holding up the ball, especially Jay.

Before everyone goes overboard about us losing Cole and how much better we would be without him, take a look at the table. Also, while his goal helped in a 1-1 draw against West Brom, 2 other factors: 1. a 1-1 draw against West Brom was unacceptable to our fanbase; 2. his sending off helped West Brom salvage a 1-1 draw.

I think with a properly balanced attack, Emerton will do better. His rise in form also coincided with MGP being taken off. As for Stead, the goals might not be coming, but he still is one of the best Rovers players out on the pitch. Hopefully a partnership of him and Jay with Dickov coming off the bench will help the goals start.

The last 2 home matches the fans have done us proud. You could hear them loud and clear singing their hearts out.

I disagree Paul. I think that no matter who was in charge, Cole just wasn't happy here and needed a change in scenery. It was better for both sides that he left (if you think it isn't better for us that we don't have his sulkiness, watch Dickov closely!!).

From listening to the match it sounded like Emerton got better when MGP came off and there were more attacking options.

Tell me, how long have you been complaining about the squad? From what I remember you were complaining about the tactics, lineups and motivational ability. All of the sudden with Souey gone, the squad is crap? No. We have the talent to finish top 10. If tactics and motivation were the main problem before, then the right manager should bring us there. It's a way for the anti-Souness brigade to put the blame on him if things go badly this season. The squad is pretty good, and has the ability to finish top half. If I remember correctly, Newcastle started pretty poorly last season (something like 3 points from 6 matches), but they still were able to finish pretty well. If we get relegated, BOTH managers should be blamed. Funny that with the same players and a different manager, 17th wasn't near good enough, but with a new manager it would be acceptable. Here's hoping Hughes was the right choice and we finish top half.
