I take it back about the Revolver-era Beatles... It's Rod Stewart & the faces !!!!
-
Oh boy... If Gamst keeps tapping them in- I'll have to up my dosage of humble pie to the entire tin..... He is most certainly loved. Now, can we address the dodgy haircut? He looks like the Revolver era Beatles I am loving 2005 so far !!!!

Well done Hughsy & JW. Showed lots of class throughout the ordeal- just let Bruce & Gold/Sullivan/Brady blow wind...and if the final numbers are to be believed- we got Savage for less. We should all be very proud to be Rover supporters today- Nevermind that Lily might not be everyone's cup of tea, but it signals once and for all that the club mean business. That debate should be binned. Oh and by the way.... Bye Bye Bazza you'll hardly be missed.

Flopsy, a few folks have stolen my thunder- Jan, YSBlue... et al. Many thanks to rustic Graeme for the first half of his tenure, bringing us back & Cardiff are wonderful memories & the timing could't be topped. But as he started losing the plot, in his mania/paranoia whatever it was, he proceeded in alienating players that we loved and destroying his creation. Granted at the time, we thought it was all part of his masterplan, but his departure demonstrated that he was grasping at straws and took the first lifeline out of town. I don't miss him, nor do I wish him ill will.. (well, Kamy's re-creation did have me doing handstands for 10 minutes). But a good kick in the pants would be brillant, no?
-
ok then... I didn't think my masterplan out all the way... Considering the captain should be on the pitch as often as possible, I bow to the swelling tide of 'Todd for captain'. And another kick in the pants to that bast**d Sourness

As you must be tired of laughing at the Emerton suggestion- I'm taking a chance with my own daft suggestion... I'd like to see MH give the captains' band back to Flitty, just until the end of the current campiagn, then it can be revisited. You must admit that Souness acted unfairly over the summer by stripping him of it , we can all see that it stung GF and it served to motivate him towards greater fitness. It makes sense in my limited thinking that as he's still be playing a somewhat vital role covering for our soon to be departing bottler that the armband should be restored to Flitcroft. Dont shoot me.

thenodrog@ Jan 14 2005, 18:51 I thought we had annointed Thommo the 'captain in waiting' on the strength of that article in the FA website? Seriously though, do we have definitive news that the Nancy-boy has put pen to paper?
-
philipl- He's not committed, of that there is no doubt. True committment would be remaining quiet until campiagn's end. Leaving now or intimating that desire reflects that he doesn't care what Rovers' final position is. That's poor leadership from a captain. (to me, perhaps i'm off) It iritates me that he would initiate this destabilization after the team has scratched and clawed itself out of the bottom !

I write this in a state of fury.. so excuse me if it comes out disjointed. GRRRR.... this could be my contribution to the 'why I hate modern day football' thread if you recall, someone here prophesized (and I paraphrase because I don't wanna go thru 25 pages of thread): 'Brum/Brummies are slagging off Savage-- but if someone came in for Fergy we'd be doing the same thing.' Very prophetic.... now, if a player wants to leave and hasn't bought into the team goals and has an agent playing these games, let 'em go. We need 100% committment. Let's show the Brum how it should be done, let Bazza pack his Maserati and sooth his family's homesickness...and good riddance to someone that doesn't have the heart to fight for our halves. But Rangers need to pay a premium for recovering their 'captain courageous' with some premiership experience. Nothing less than original expenditure plus 1.5 million. Isn't time that we come out on top? The lad is under contract for 2 more years-Rangers must pay for that bit of business.

Nelson's been idle since November.. no?
-
's I see many of us are having that same sinking feeling... I too have become disillusioned with this transfer... Scotty- The paranoid in me is certain others are monitoring the situation and might decide to pounce to take advantage of Brum's attitude towards BRFC... maybe if we offer to take back Tiny? Anyway, I hope that the assumed 3rd. offer isn't much more than already on the table-- let's not lose our heads here !!!

Flopsy- Just to be safe, I'd leave the inflatible sheep in the auto- preferrably in the boot & out of sight. -
Jim, I was having that same crappy feeling. I can see the Brum looking to unload him anywhere but East Lanc. just to spite us. But as getting Savage won't make or break our Premiership status perhaps the best thing that can happen to us to be rejected outright & then we start looking to splash cash elsewhere. At least we can take heart in our current form and the prospects of improvement (dare I say) with more clinical finishing.

Have you started on the cocktails already, Dave ? It's lovely to be giddy after a nice purple patch-but even the most cockeyed optimist would be relunctant to make that assertion. Theno: what would suggest that the gaffer is looking for a new captain?

-I completely disagree with those that want a short-lived cup run-- Think of the benefits of getting some squad guys a good run-out... Imagine Jemal or Gally getting some good work and building some confidence - there can only be a upside to a nice cup run. Ossydave- I don't profess to know much about anything, but funny how a 2 month stretch with a real coaching staff have tightened things up at the back and created a newfound steel, uh? -
I'd like to see the lads hold serve here. A nice draw would keep the smile on my face. Let's say: 1 - 1 Angel Stead (praying) A nice tight defensive result allowing us to continue adding up points- but: wouldn't throw back a nice 3-1 result, thou.

So nervewracking to listen to that on Radio Rovers.... whew ! MH & the lads deserve a huge hand - I wish Stead had had better luck on his finish... you saw how it effected his game from that point forward. (or is that a load of cobblers?) It seemed like it took him completely out of the match. Let's hope this form continues in the back- everything is much simpler if we don't bleed goals. -
Den- easy to take that option with Stead fresh in our minds, but the problem is that our back end isn't stocked with good, young (read:quick) defenders and midfielders. That should be our first option if we want to build for a lengthy stay in the prem. Build a strong backbone first.

I wish to echo the sentiments regarding JW's handling of this situation the last two weeks.... we should be nothing but proud of the set up at BRFC!!! In regards to Sparky's appointment: as usual on the fence: the negative ----- clearly his lack of premiership experience for what looks to be a hard road this term is a concern... but look at Chris Coleman @ Foolham. the positive ----- clearly that he is not a re-tread, perhaps his fresh approach can strike a nerve with the team and we can start our march to 8th place. Go on you rovers !!! -
And I'm certain you'll be missed, Jim. anyone here interested in el Grande Sam? King Kenny would be a nice stroll down memory lane, but have we forgotten his time at Celtic?
-
I just heard the news this morning around 2 am... and promptly had a sleepless night wondering of the ramifications. I too, broke into a sweat over the possibility of conducting a manager search until such inauspicious circumstances. But after the initial cold sweat dissipitated, thoughts of Hughesy standing at our touchline came into my mind and things seemed better already. I'm sure my words arent' anything new over what's been written in many pages of this and other threads, but I had been away from the computer & other media-so the appointment caught me completely unawares... but really, a change at the top had to be addressed by Xmas... and as fortune should have it, without the compensation (sackiing) package or a further funk that could damage our premiership status & a tidy compo package from Fat Fred to boot... (anyone have an idea how many ducats??) Let's hope that in Souey's departure, our old, missing friend 'Lady Luck' will make a reappearance at Ewood.

I"m kinda hoping he heads north to Parkhead... then he can arrange a transfer to Rangers and then Souey would swoop down for him anew By the way, has anyone the telephone number for Dwight's orthodonist? -
[Archived] Verdict On Souness
blue/white replied to philipl's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
I agree with those that would like to see Rovers turn it around with GS onboard. Souey is still the biggest ass kicking 'old skool' manager haunting premierships grounds. It would be shameful to see him go, but I'm becoming more dissilusioned by the minute-I just don't see a resurrection happening. This whole thing seems like a 'bataan deathmarch' akin to Reidy @ Sunderland... and althou showing Souey the sack means to wait until May to name a worthy successor... can rovers' not afford to cut their losses say after 3 more matches??? (no pun intended) I personally dislike jumping on the sack the gaffer bandwagon..it's daft, but I dislike seeing Rovers propping up the table after 3 matches even more... especially after just surviving the drop last spring. Go Rovers.
