  1. If we don't even reach our 16/17 total of 51 points (and it seems likely that we won't at this point) then it should give Tony and the club as a whole serious cause for concern, as for over half of that season we were being managed by Coyle and had Jason Lowe marshalling the midfield.
  2. Drawing at home with Ipswich deserves the sack tbf. Even we beat Ipswich at Ewood.
  3. The fact Mowbray ripped into half the team after the last match, in particular the goalie, then picked almost all of them again says it all. Gutless. We need somebody with far more courage at the helm, not a manager who by his own admission essentially lets the players manage themselves.
  4. Losing home games is the sign of a really bad team. If we were a normal club I'd suggest we start looking at managerial replacements before the summer, but this is Venky's, so...
  5. I think it's fair to say we've thrown away any chance of getting him back next season, on loan or permanent. He'll know he can do much better than having to play with this manager and these players.
  6. We're fortunate that we probably won't end up in one, as I wouldn't bet on us staying up. Neither the players nor the manager seem mentally up for the challenge. It was all good when we had momentum and were getting good results, but as soon as it started going wrong in November we've really struggled. Not sure where that random four game win streak in January came from (granted two of those were Millwall and Ipswich) but the post-January collapse has been even worse than our November-December form. At least with those you could say we were battling and just coming up short at the end of matches. Now the players look like they could not care less. Really disheartening.
  7. Yeah, last season nobody really turned us over so you could excuse the functional method of getting results. Hard to say it's wrong when we're winning most of our matches and not getting thumped by anybody. This season we haven't had too many savagings results wise, but there have been a lot of games where we could have been properly turned over. Derby away comes to mind immediately. Whatever Tony is doing isn't working at this level and I'm not convinced bringing in better players (if he's even capable of doing that) will solve our problems. It's not like we dominated teams last season despite having vastly superior players - so just bringing in competitive players isn't going to be enough to get us to where we need to be with Mowbray in charge.
  8. Yep, I've said quite a few times before but even though we technically romped League 1 last season it didn't seem that way. Almost every game seemed like a chore and a battle, even against very poor teams at the bottom of the table. We seem to set up every match to allow the opposition to get into the game, rather than asserting our authority on them. It's incredibly frustrating.
  9. If we lose again today then surely we have to ask whether Mowbray is fit to continue for next season? I'm not even sure he's fit to continue for the rest of this campaign. We are in absolute freefall. He needs a win today, but once again we've already conceded. We just can't stop.
  10. Ferguson is the best example, but in the modern game especially criticising players in public is usually tantamount to career suicide. You might get away with it in L1 and below, but at PL and Championship level - rightly or wrongly - managers are walking a tightrope when they begin pointing fingers at the players and avoid taking their share of the blame. The "us and them" mentality should not be the manager & fans vs the players. That is obviously not going to end well for the manager. The Q&A seemed to suggest Tony knows exactly where the problems are, but whether he thinks he's at fault for those failings? Not sure.
  11. Quite possibly, I've always thought a manager who comes out and criticises players in public is getting desperate and is out of ideas. There's such a low upside to doing so that it's pretty much a last ditch resort when all else has failed. If it's gotten to that point it usually means the manager and those around him have failed in managing the club effectively and their competency should start being questioned. I've always been very consistent in my thoughts on publicly shaming players. I think it's nonsense when fans call for it and nonsense when managers do it. It appeals to the shaming culture that permeates modern society and to me it's pretty sad. I'm more than happy for things between players and managers to remain private. All the manager has to do is admit things haven't been good enough and he's working on sorting it out. That's it. No more detail required, especially not to the level he's going to with Raya. I just see no need for it, other than to satiate those who are desperate for others to be shamed and ridiculed.
  12. I don't think a manager publicly shaming a player can ever really be justified, barring exceptional circumstances. Put it this way, if you were working for a company and made some mistakes, and your manager called you into a meeting and said you had to improve then you'd take it on board on work on it. If that manager then went to clients and said you'd been doing shit at your job, but he'd had a word and would get rid of you if you didn't improve, would that make you more motivated, or would you think your manager was an arsehole and not worth working for? I think most people would have the latter reaction, and whilst you can't compare football 1:1 with "normal" businesses it's still the same basic principle. Leaders don't inspire loyalty by publicly shaming those following them.
  13. Incredible seeing PSG bottle it again. Literally gifted United three goals and blew a host of chances. Was a bit like watching Rovers, minus having a lot of chances to score.
  14. Those aren't bad stats, granted, but it's not like our attacking players are a great benchmark for goals, are they? Comments I've heard most of the season from Ipswich fans regarding Edwards actually remind me a lot of the criticism King got when he was here. Runs down blind alleys, poor crossing, not enough useful output or team play. Maybe he'd be better in a decent team, who knows? But my main point was that if you base your transfer strategy on buying League 1 players that is ultimately exactly where you will end up.
  15. Almost like he's the owner of the club and responsible for these things!
  16. Possibly, but Ipswich went this route and look at them now. Everyone wanted us to sign Edwards and he's been pretty poor for them. There were calls to look at Nolan & Toto from Shrewsbury as well, and they've both proven to be well below standard as well. I'm not opposed to grabbing the odd prospect from League 1, but if you buy too many from that league you'll ultimately just end up playing there.
  17. Even the best teams in the league haven't thrashed us at home so I don't foresee a scoreline hammering. More likely we'll either scrape a draw or lose 1/2-0.
  18. I genuinely think we're more likely to get relegated under Mowbray than get promoted. Once Dack inevitably leaves and Graham/Mulgrew are no longer up to it (arguably Mulgrew is already at that point) he'll need to make some pretty good signings to keep us moving forward, and considering his record in the transfer market... well, let's just say I'm not exactly optimistic that we'll have a better team this time next year.
  19. One of Reading or Rotherham might make it to 40-42 points, but I can't see either getting beyond that and it's almost impossible to think of both of them getting any further.
  20. Can't help but think the EFL perhaps should have stepped in a little sooner rather than letting it get to this point. But that would actually be taking some responsibility, so...
  21. Rotherham and Reading aren't playing us every week though, so I don't foresee either getting that many more points. Keep in mind Rotherham have only won 6 all season and Reading 7, so much like Bolton it would take a pretty big change in form for either of them to be winning 4 or 5 matches between now and the end of the season. It is possible but I wouldn't call it likely. Even if both picked up 4 wins each and we only got one point out of our next 11 matches we'd still probably finish above both due to their horrendous goal difference. Granted that assumes both would lose their other 7 matches, but let's say we win a match instead of drawing - that would almost certainly see us safe. That said, it's Rovers and we do seem to be cursed under Venky's, so who knows.
  22. Pretty galling that we were relegated with 51 points. 42 would have been enough last season and it'll probably be similar this season.
  23. Bolton have only won 6 in 35, so 3 in 11 would be a pretty big upturn in form - especially considering the financial state of the club. Can't be good for morale. Three wins would also only be enough if the teams above them lost every single game between now and the end of the season, which is unlikely. I'd say Bolton and Ipswich are as good as gone. I think Rotherham will ultimately take the final spot, but could just as easily be Reading.
  24. Apologies, it was as depressing going through our results as it was reading the stats, I assure you! I still feel Lenihan can become a decent Championship CB, but he needs much better players around and in front of him.
  25. Sad news about Keith Flint. Firestarter always reminds me of playing Wipeout 2097 on my original PlayStation as a kid. Luke Perry passed away as well, only 52 himself. I've watched more 90210 than I'd care to admit so I was really stunned by this one.
