  1. People said the same stuff during the Bowyer years. "We've got stability, we're getting better, next year is our year". Some fans will never learn, and I feel bad for them because until Venky's go they will be setting themselves up for bitter disappointment season after season.
  2. Worth noting we have no idea how much of a payoff Mowbray would actually have gotten from Coventry. Judging from the outside you would have to assume not very much, which would make the decision to walk a lot easier. There's little doubt he is a decent bloke, but as Gav said a few posts up, he's ultimately on a hiding to nothing here.
  3. Fair enough, either way his career trajectory had gone downhill fast, so the reaction on here when he was appointed was totally understandable. Looking at it in greater detail it seems like he was better than Coventry and probably should have avoided what appears to be an even worse job than Rovers (for now).
  4. With ABBEY gone the ying and yang is out of balance.
  5. People had every right to be upset with the appointment of a guy who had been sacked after leaving Coventry bottom of League 1. Sorry to say it, but that is what Mowbray was when hired. Three games in and things are looking good. But it's only three games. A little early for anybody to be crowing and hailing Mowbray as the second coming. He's had an excellent start but there's still a long way to go. This'll be a difficult end to the season, and even if Mowbray does keep us up we most likely have a pretty grim summer ahead of us which could see Mowbray starting next season with both arms tied behind his back.
  6. Yes. Pretty much every Man Utd fan I've spoken to hates the term "Man U" quite passionately... so remember to use it frequently in their presence.
  7. Tony's quite well thought of in these parts, so I really hope he can work some miracles and untangle Coyle's mess before the season ends. What's sad is that even if he does, it's very likely only delaying the inevitable.
  8. So, Tony Mowbray...
  9. As long as that view is being against Venky's and the continued destruction of the club, long may that continue.
  10. Technically just under six and a half. November will be seven years. Feels like it's been seven decades.
  11. I've always thought Bowyer would make a great assistant manager, or first team coach. Don't think he has the tools to be a successful first team manager. That's not to say he never will have the tools - with experience he could gain those - but he shouldn't have been learning his trade with us.
  12. Those who don't learn from history...
  13. I work with a couple of Wolves fans and consensus is pretty much the same. Their opinion is that he needs to have a clear out in the summer and a proper pre-season to sort them out. They're confident of still being a Championship team this time next season.
  14. Nah, as long as he keeps us up he now has "a man's promise" that money and players will be on the way in the summer.
  15. He needs to take a trip to "the village" (͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
  16. Correct. Early on there were plenty of people who were supporting Kean - the same people who, no doubt, were booing when we were 3-0 up against Wolves. The thread where we beat Liverpool and the Steve Kean thread just after we stayed up during our first season with him in charge make embarrassing reading for certain posters. Coyle was mostly greeted with negativity, quite rightly, although there were still a contingent who inexplicably thought he'd do well for us. IMV Mowbray isn't in the Kean or Coyle category, but to expect fans to be anything other than cynical over this appointment is barmy. I'm sure Mowbray will be given a chance at Ewood, but if there is skepticism online then that can hardly be considered surprising.
  17. Go back and read the Paul Lambert appointed thread. When a good decision is made people are pleased. It's hardly the fault of the fans that practically every decision made in the last six years has been wrong. Any sensible person would become jaded and cynical after such a long period of poor management.
  18. The simple truth is that your last two jobs aren't SISU owned Coventry and Venky's owned Rovers unless you're kind of desperate. Nonetheless, it just clicks for some managers at certain teams. Look at Coyle and Burnley. Maybe we'll get lucky and it'll click with us and Mowbray. Sad fact is even if he does succeed and keep us up, another round of cost cutting in the summer will put paid to any chance of competing at this level and leave us at a point where even the elite managers couldn't stop the inevitable.
  19. As an aside, it was Mowbray who brought Steele through at Boro.
  20. Swift is debatable. Apparently the players were told last week that Coyle wouldn't be taking training (probably around the time a certain agency started a media blitz targeting Venky's) yet he was still in charge for the United game and only sacked yesterday. Meanwhile Senior has basically wanted Coyle to be removed since he was hired at the beginning of January. It was the same with Bowyer. Apparently he knew well in advance that he was going to be replaced, possibly before the season had even started. Venky's don't do swift.
  21. We're in a terminal downward spiral under Venky's anyway, so if there's someone in the dugout who I don't despise then that's a bonus. I'd rather it was Tony Mowbray than one of our former players dirtying their hands with this mess.
  22. General consensus seems to be decent bloke, not much of a football manager. So basically Bowyer Mk II, but with a much worse squad.
  23. His win % in his full time positions, for those who are interested: Hibs - 48.15% WBA - 40.71% Celtic - 51.11% Boro - 39.87% Coventry - 34.67% Overall - 41.98% In comparison, Coyle's overall win % is 39.32%. Overalls arguably aren't a great stat to use though, as Lambert is only 38.9% (Rev will like that), and Bowyer is 35.63%.
  24. He's not Coyle either? I don't know, it's pretty slim pickings. Got promoted with WBA in 2008 but they were relegated the following season. Sacked after nine months at Celtic. Joined Boro in 2010 when they were in a bit of bother and got them out of danger, eventually sacked at the start of the 13-14 season after a poor start. Joined Coventry at the end of the 14-15 season and kept them up, but was sacked in Sep 16 after a poor run of form. Basically, he has a couple of great escapes on his CV and a promotion to the PL 8 years ago. With all that said, as long as Venky's and/or unnamed others are here we are screwed regardless of manager... so it doesn't really matter.
